There has actually been a scientific study on this question, carried out by Dr William Brown of Brunel University (http://www.pnas.org/content/105/35/12938). The study concluded that men prefer petite women with small frames, short slender bodies and slim limbs because they have low "body masculinity".

I once was with an sp who was almost 6'. standing up she was cute, but as soon as we got horizontal, I got turned off. Seeing her big feet and visually large and long frame just killed it. It felt like she was bigger than me (I'm just over 6') I know its weird, but hey, millions of years of evolution does these things.
