Is the best TV police drama ever-made, The Shield?

I have never seen this show, but I have had a few buddies tell me that this is must-see TV. Can anyone confirm that?

Ive seen the old episodes..if this is the show with that guy that played in the fantastic four movie?(that orangey/brown rock skin character)
If its the same show, its extremely low budget..d-level acting, and the filming style is hard to watch if your used to standard budget tv shows.
    Just my 2 cents.

I'm definitely with Drake2 on The Wire in terms of critical acclaim, but I enjoyed The Shield also.

The Wire was great and the Shield was good. Now, Southland (TNT) and Justified (FX) are the shows to watch.

My vote: Hill Street Blues & NYPD Blue

I know that the thread is cop shows but I just watched again after 20 years or so the movie "Fort Apache, The Bronx" with Paul Newman and Ken Wall. I was surprised at how good it holds up. Edgy for the time, I am sure, but still has some grit.

For TV......Gotta go with NYPD Blue....Does anyone have "Beverly Hills Buntz" on VHS lying around somewhere?
