Congratulations and Great Respect to Gordie Drillon

This is in tribute to a fine hockey player enshrined forever in the Hall of Fame: the late Gordie Drillon.

Among his many achievements, Mr. Drillon was the LAST Toronto Maple Leaf to lead the NHL in scoring. Mr. Drillon accomplished this wonderful feat in 1938, a mere 75 YEARS ago.

Please reserve a special place in your hearts for Mr. Drillon, who will very likely be remembered FOREVER as the LAST Leaf to ever lead the NHL in scoring.

Since 1947 (66 years ago), the NHL has awarded the prestigious Art Ross Trophy to the scoring leader each year. No Leaf has EVER won the trophy, of course, since it did not yet exist when a Leaf (the aforementioned highly-respected Gordie Drillon) last led the league - 75 YEARS AGO.

Hats off to the memory of Mr. Drillon for achieving something that will never be duplicated (by a Leaf).

Excellent idea Doctor. If you can't drink to the great Mr. Hockey, you can't drink to ANYONE.

Gordie currently is battling the devasting mental illness known as dementia.

Recently, i watched a great PBS documentary on the devastating effects of head injuries in football. Hockey is not much different, since we now know that several deceased hockey players also suffered from CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) in their later years due to the high number of concussions they received while playing the sport they loved.

Players such as Bob Probert & Derek Boogard had CTE. I'm not certain about Wade Belak, but it wouldn't have surprised me if he did. One day when Pat Lafontaine passes on, it won't surprise me if the autopsy of his brain will show the effects of CTE. Same thing with Chris Pronger, Keith Primeau and many former (and current) players. Sure, the late John Kordic had his problems with drugs. But was his brain ever analyzed to check if he wasn't also a CTE sufferer? It could help explain some of his erratic behaviour, which to this day had been mostly attributed to drug use. What about Chris Nilan? Will we see an intact brain once he passes on, or will it show signs of damage from CTE?

Considering the style of play that Gordie Howe played, it would not surprise me one bit to later find out that his dementia was caused by CTE. And people should remember that back in those days, players did not even wear helmets.

Dementia has no correlation with head injury

Head injury may speed up the progress of dementia, but has no relation to it

Dementia, just like Alzheimer's is a neuroimflammatory condition

Toronto Over Minnesota

Toronto "won" another game despite being outshot by a humiliating margin of 37-14 and despite "stars" Phaneuf and Kessel. Here are some excerpts from the game report:

"The Minnesota Wild won the puck-possession battle, but the Toronto Maple Leafs won the game.

Outshot badly Tuesday night, the Leafs managed a 4-1 victory at Air Canada Centre.

Winning without the substantive play to back it up has become a familiar script for Toronto. Goaltender James Reimer made a handful of vital stops to bail out teammates.

At the other end of the ice, Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper struggled with little action.

All the while, the Wild (3-2-2) controlled the play in the Leafs' end and had nothing to show for it.

Unable to get the puck in the offensive zone, let alone in a position to put it on net, the Leafs endured a shot drought of 14 minutes 40 seconds that ended with an outside offering from Franson.

Reimer didn't get the benefit of much rest because of the seven-plus minutes the Leafs spent shorthanded and the puck-possession advantage the Wild enjoyed. Twice he saved teammates, once when the puck bounced over Phil Kessel's stick leading to a Mikael Granlund breakaway and then again after Dion Phaneuf turned the puck over to Torrey Mitchell in the neutral zone."

Poor Koolaid drinkers: it's clear that their bubble will burst...as usual.

6-1 cowboy! SIX AND ONE! this aint ur 40 plus years of dead thing suckiness! :)

1. I see from your unwanted "cowboy" remark that you're still staring at your John Wayne posters. Are you playing your favorite disco tunes?

2. No, it's not "ur (sic) 40 plus years"...it's 46 PLUS YEARS and counting (!!!) of complete and utter failure.

3. Please have someone who understands hockey explain the game report to you. You will discover that it was an undeserved win, marked by incredibly poor play by the leafs. They were lucky to face a less-than-stellar goalie, and even luckier that Jonathan ".839" Bernier was not in their net tonight. Finally, they were luckiest of all that Jimmy "Nerves" Reimer played a good game in his first game back after being yanked in the middle of a previous game when he allowed 4 goals on only 21 shots.

4. No hard feelings. Enjoy your Koolaid...but you might have to switch to the harder stuff when the inevitable FALL occurs (like it always does).

Ted Kennedy

No, not the Chappaquiddick guy.

This post is in honor of the late Ted "Teeder" Kennedy, the last maple leaf to win the Hart Trophy as League MVP...way back in 1955 (!!!!), 58 years ago.

A long, long time but STILL more recent than the last leaf to win the scoring championship (75 years ago).

Toronto Maple Leafs: The Little Team That CAN'T.

Trivia question

Other than being former Detroit Red Wings, name another thing that Sean Avery & Sheldon Kennedy have in common?

Quotes From Randy Carlyle

"Some nights we're going to get our butt kicked playing like this."

"We're not going to continue to accept what's happening."

'Our level of play has to increase."

Poor Randy - I guess someone forgot to fill his glass with Koolaid!

Love RC and he is right that the Leafs have not put a complete game together yet this season but have won 6 of 7...good teams find a way to win and that is what is happening in TO. Not bad with now five regulars out of the lineup.

I like Phil "the Stick" Kessels quotes also... "you can't complain to much when your winning, right" :thumb:
