The greatest guitarists in rock history:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-guitarists-20111123/b-b-king-20111122

My picks:

Jimi Hendrix (best of all time; a professional blues guitarist I know once told me he tried to do Hendrix's stuff and simply can't- "it's impossible to do his stuff- way over my head")
Duane Allman
Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Jeff Beck
Carlos Santana
Eddie Van Halen
Neil Young
Dave Gilmour

I'd remove Gilmour and add Duane Eddy, James Burton and Joe Satriani.

Hello all,

I was wondering what one of the quintessential Rock Era magazines thought about the "greatest music band or single ,male or female ever?" So I looked up Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists for an opinion by those who make their living trying to be informed. There are lots of great articles explaining their position.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/l...sts-of-all-time-19691231/the-beatles-20110420

The list from the top 20:

20. Bo Diddley

19. The Velvet Underground

18. Marvin Gaye

17. Muddy Waters

16. Sam Cooke

15. Stevie Wonder

14. Led Zeppelin

13. Buddy Holly

12. The Beach Boys

11. Bob Marley

10. Ray Charles

9. Aretha Franklin

8. Little Richard

7. James Brown

6. Jimi Hendrix

5. Chuck Berry

4. The Rolling Stones

3. Elvis Presley

2. Bob Dylan

1. The Beatles

I was a bit surprised to see Michael Jackson as far down as 35th, but otherwise, it seems very hard to knock any of these further down the list. It's also great to see CCR and Roy Orbison made it.

Cheers,

Look behind you.
They always seem to miss Tin Lizzy on these lists and whenever you read about them you hear great stuff ( They were good ).

One of the all-time best guitarists=Tiny Tim

After continuously watching a video posted by Jeff Jones (and i must admit i'm now hooked on that song), i'm surprised no one mentionned the great Tiny Tim as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Okay, he didn't play the typical electric or acousting guitar, but his skills at handling a string instrument were, in my humble opinion, with the best out there.

Once again, enjoy a master at his craft! :D

One of the all-time best guitarists of all-time

Although I think all of the Beatles were talented men, and 3 of the 4 were elected to the Rock Hall of Fame as individual/solo artists (all except Ringo), I consider John Lennon to be, by far, the most talented Beatle. All of my favorite Beatles songs are the ones by Lennon- they have a bit more depth and creativity. I think Lennon was the premiere musician of the 20th century.
