Better check the standings, joey, lol....If we suck then the DEAD THINGS suck, well, MORE (congrats tho you actually held on to beat the worst team in the west 3-2 tonight) you must be so proud, here just a few short years ago you won a cup and fast forward to 2013 and you can barely beat the bottom feeder and might not even make the playoffs hahahaahaa my how things have changed in the NHL, 2013 version, wink wink amigo.

Short answer : leafs still suck. Only 4 more short years and then you can celebrate HALF A CENTURY OF FAILURE.

Habs trade Subban and Eller to Flyers for Schenn brothers, Scott Hartnell and a conditional first-round pick

MONTREAL-In a shocking move, Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin just traded star defenceman P.K. Subban & center Lars Eller to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenceman Luke Schenn, wingers Brayden Schenn and Scott Hartnell. The Flyers will also send a conditional first-round pick to the Flyers.

The trade comes as a shock to the hockey world. The arrival of Subban will fill a void created by Chris Pronger's long-term absence from the team. Eller is expected to move onto one of the team's top lines, while the Schenn brothers are expected to bring toughness & scoring punch to the Canadiens' offense. Hartnell is expected to bring toughness & leadership to his new team, something it was lacking even though they've been ahead in the standings for most of the season.

More to come....

GARBAGE ON ICE: the toronto maple leafs

This complete laughingstock of a franchise has been in the NHL since the beginning in 1917.

No maple leaf has EVER won the ART ROSS TROPHY, given to the regular season scoring leader.

The Ross was first awarded in 1948.

The last leaf to lead the NHL in scoring was Gordie Drillon in 1938, meaning it was 75 YEARS AGO that a leaf last led the league in scoring! Given the total lack of talent on their current roster, this will not change for a LONG time...if EVER!

As we all know it has also been 46 YEARS OF COMPLETE FAILURE for this pathetic joke of a team - 46 years in which they couldn't make it to the finals even once! And as we all know, they will likely never make the finals again. In fact this national embarrassment hasn't even been able to make the playoffs for almost a decade.

There is no way on Earth that a team this bad should be permitted to stay in the NHL!

Look behind you.
Back to the west coast, looks like the Oilers are starting to play a little better, still need a goalie ( glad Gagner never got traded ) and some defense but then they were in their prime they won but by scores of 6-4 so as long as the offense scores and they DO NOT try and play defense with a 2-0 lead they may get into the play-offs. Flames suck, at least first round draft pick may stay in Alberta :) OK, back to the east coast.

Lupul Injured Again

Joffrey Lupul, one of the most fragile players in the NHL (the kind leaf management LOVES) was injured again in tonight's game.

As expected, the Philadelphia Flyers despite sitting a lowly 22nd in the league easily defeated the hapless and laughable leafs.

Reimer, now knowing that leaf management tried and failed to get Luongo and Kiprusoff, decided his job is safe and figured there was no reason to try to stop pucks. In a related story, Kipper has been scientifically rated as highly intelligent for putting the kibosh on a trade to this piece-of-crap team.

Did Phil Kessel play? Who knows - the guy is the original Invisible Man - but don't bother looking for his name on the scoring summary (he's no Gordie Drillon!).

Long story short: the leafs are garbage and proved it again tonight for about the ten thousandth time.

Look behind you.
Kipper denied a trade anywhere due to his son being very sick, he will retire after this season. And with his price tag who would want Luongo?

Lowly Coyotes defeat struggling Red Wings again

GLENDALE-The Phoenix Coyotes easily defeated the slumping Detroit Red Wings last night by a score of 4-2.

Phoenix had several of its regulars out with the flu and therefore had to rely on their call-ups. The still managed to easily beat the awful Red Wings with a reduced lineup.

Detroit now stands in 7th place, only two points ahead of struggling Edmonton and resurgent Columbus.

What an embarrassment to the city of Detroit have the Red Wings become!

Happy days are ABSOLUTELY NOT here again!! :help:

How long will the overrated Mike Babcock be able to hang onto his job? Is GM Ken Holland's job in jeopardy? Will old man Illitch finally sell the team to an owner who will invest in it in order to bring success once again to this struggling franchise? Will this struggling franchise lead to Mr. Hockey finally kicking the bucket? I'm certain the state of this once-great franchise must be difficult on the old guy.....

NHL Poll: Babcock Rated Top Coach

In a poll on NHL.com Mike Babcock of the great Detroit Red Wings has been named the best coach in the NHL. Babcock scored 68 points.

In second place with 42 points was the highly respected Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators.

In SIXTEENTH place, with TWO points, was Randy Carlyle of the universally loathed toronto maple leafs.

Polls smolls, another popularity contest for a coach who has over the years been given the best players, of course he should win and if anything he is doing a bad job this year as a coach for not being on top of the points lead in the NHL, then again the dead things are getting old and need to possibly re-tool if not rebuild soon. I guess "babs" or should we call him "The Cock", wins a popularity contest on what he HAS DONE in and aka, the PAST. I will say "The COCK" was a decent coach years ago but "The COCK" is not deserving of his popularity win this time around.

Below we see The COCK after yet another loss and his alter ego shortly after his post game press conference, time to go save a damsel in distress, a child from a burning house and a cat stuck in a tree and overall try to save the world as Super COCK

Glad to see that you ADMIT that Detroit "has over the years" had "the best players". Gotcha (as usual)!

And here's a free hockey lesson for you: Why do you think Detroit has had - in your own words - "the best players". Simple, my hockey-challenged friend: It's because Detroit has the best owner, the best GM, the best scouts, and the best management team. That is how the coach has "been given the best players".

You do the best job, you get the best players! You do a CRAPPY job like Brian Burke (and the leafs in general for 46 YEARS) you get a CRAPPY team. And, my hockey-challenged friend, the stinkin' leafs have indeed been one CRAPPY team for 46 YEARS of failure.

Very accurate post, Igna. I totally agree with your statement re: The Cock.

When i noticed your picture of The Cock, it reminded me of a character played by Al Pacino in the movie "Dick Tracy", the one called Big Boy Caprice:

Since leaf fans have nicknamed the Red Wing coach "Super Cock" I wonder if they have nicknamed the former leaf coach or GM "No Cock"?

Oh Snap! Hilarious indeed Doc!

"The Cock" has seen better days, oh man that sounds so wrong but could not be more true the way the once proud DEAD THINGS are hanging on by a thread at a playoff hope.....

Just saw a fan here in Montreal wearing a Bruins jersey as i was going into a store and i said "Kick their Ass tonight" as he held the door for me and I said with a smile "Go Leafs Go" and turns out he was a Leafs fan and was just wearing the bruins jersey to the game to show support for ANYONE but the scabs. Lol, good stuff!

The leafs are good for one thing and one thing only: No matter how bad things get for any of the other 29 teams, they can always say:"Hey, things could be MUCH worse: we could be playing for the stinkin'leafs and their No Cock GM and coach."

And that has now been true for 46 YEARS!

Hello Mr. Cairo,

There is no place on MERB for homophobic posts, not even in this Free For All thread. You have just earned yourself a two week suspension and if you do not smarten up when you return, you will not enjoy the consequences.

Post content removed.

Red Wings slip to 8th place after being shutout by the Blues

The Detroit Red Wings were shutout by the St-Louis Blues by a score of 1-0 this Sunday afternoon. The Red Wings now find themselves in the 8th and last playoffs spot, barely hanging on to this spot with only 3 pts ahead of 9th place Phoenix & 4 pts ahead of the lowly Edmonton Oilers. Should the Red Wings miss the playoffs, this would be an embarrassment to the entire city of Detroit & its fan base. There is no doubt in my mind that coach Mike Babcock would be fired by GM Ken Holland in order to save his job. But will it be enough?
