Let's be fair to poor Phil, Doc. True, he was a monster when he went on his cowardly slashing and spearing rampage, but that was in the pre-season. Once the actual season started, he was the same timid, ineffectual Phil that we've all grown accustomed to over the years.
Congratulations to "the Stick" for putting up big points (even if the majority were meaningless and unimportant to his team - for example, FOUR points in a 4-0 victory over the beleaguered Oilers) in the last couple of games. It was nice to see him come out of his shell after scoring a mere TWO goals in his first 9 games. I sincerely hope Phil is enjoying his very brief moment of glory, for as we all know he is a very streaky player: he'll get hot for 2 or 3 games, then completely vanish for the next 5 or 10. Hot and cold (and more often cold, which is why he has such a really crappy career points per game average for a strictly one dimensional player who is SUPPOSED to be a scorer).
Nicely done Phil - but take a PHOTO of the scoring list because your name will probably NEVER AGAIN be so high up.
PS: Too bad you're stuck on the leafs, but I guess people will do just about anything for the almighty dollar...and Dave Nonis was the only GM around who would overpay by SO much.
Well, let's see: Since that trade the Bruins have a Cup victory plus a second appearance in the finals. The Sharks have done squat in the playoffs and have never won a Cup.
Speaking of Boston's deals, how did the Tuuka Rask deal work out...for the Bruins...AND for the (chuckle!) leafs?

ALL of the teams you mentioned have done FAR better than the leafs.
Detroit: 22 consecutive years in the playoffs. Since 1995: 4 Cups and two other Final appearances. 6 President's Trophies. Many individual trophies since 1993 (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Yzerman, Osgood, Hasek, Vernon, Coffey, Fedorov).
Vancouver: Made playoffs 10 of the past 12 years. Since 1995: Two Final appearances. 2 President's Trophies. Several individual trophies since 1993 (both Sedins, Kesler,Naslund, Luongo, Schneider).
Montreal: Made playoffs 7 times since 2004. Won Cup in 1993 (yes, 20 years ago...but STILL 26 years more recently than the last leaf Cup!). Several individual trophies since 1993 (Subban, Theodore).
Toronto: Made playoffs ONCE (!!!!!) since 2004....in a SHORTENED SEASON (48 games). ZERO Cups...since 1967 (!!!!!!!!!!). ZERO Final appearances...since 1967(!!!!!) ZERO individual trophies since Little Dougie Gilmour's lone Selke Trophy way back in 1993. The laughingstock of the league for the last 46 YEARS!!!!

Most of you guys know zero about hockey. Proof of this is the fact you can't recall the Pat Burns & Pat Quinn decade, which were very successful years for the Leafs. Roger Neilsen also had some good years coaching the Leafs.
Of course, none of you were probably watching hockey back then. Actually, probably only JC, Iggy & Reverdy on this board actually watch hockey. The rest are just clueless haters, who as i've stated earlier, know ZERO about the game of hockey.

What you know about is 'statistics'. You probably spent your life trying to remember them as much possible simply because you knew you didn't understood what hockey is about really and you didn't want people to know this.
What you need is to move town.

But I'm here to DEFEND Phil: After seeing him demolished when he "fought" Alex Burrows, it's perfectly understandable why he feels he needs to use his STICK to defend himself.
PS: Looks like Phil's latest hot streak is over and he's officially into yet another cold spell.

Well, let's see: On Saturday, Detroit with its "problem" of "too many Europeans" beat Edmonton 5-0. Vancouver with "their SEDINS" humiliated the leafs 4-0. (No surprise, as it has been TEN YEARS!!!!!! since the leafs last beat the Canucks!!!)

Since Ken Holland became an NHL GM in July 1997 the Wings have won more games, more Cups (3, and they also won another when Kenny was assistant GM), and more President's Trophies(4) than any other team in the NHL. Kenny has also been an absolute THIEF in the draft: he got the most skilled hockey player in the world, Pavel Datsyuk, with pick # 171 (!!!!!!!!) in 1998. He got Wayne Gretzky's favorite hockey player of the past decade, Henrik Zetterberg, with pick # 210 (!!!!!!) in 1999. He got rock-solid defenceman Niklas Kronwall with pick # 29 in 2000. He got quality goaltender Jimmy Howard with pick # 64 in 2003. He got "the Mule" Johan Franzen with pick # 97 in 2004. He got multipurpose Darren Helm with pick # 132 in 2005. I could continue but I think you get the picture: KH is as much of a MAGICIAN as a GM as Datsyuk is as a hockey player! And KH NEEDS to be a magician because Detroit, due to its remarkable success for more than two decades never gets high draft picks...unlike the stinkin' leafs, who ALWAYS get high picks because they ALWAYS have crappy results. Of course the incompetent leaf management has wasted these high picks either by giving them away to other teams in ridiculous trades or by wasting them on incredibly poor draft selections.
Mike Babcock was voted best coach in the NHL in a recent nhl.com poll. Babcock is the only coach ever to win the triple crown of Stanley Cup, Olympic gold, and IIHF World Championship. For dessert he has also coached winning teams in the IIHF World Junior Championships and in national collegiate championships.

Somehow, all this does NOT seem to add up to an "overrated coach" or a "crappy GM".
(If we want to use the word "overrated" maybe we should apply it to Dion Phaneuf, who was TWICE voted Most Overrated Player in the Entire NHL by the players themselves.
