Are the Oilers still in the NHL? I heard the other day that their spot was taken up by the Swift Current Broncos.

Let me check on that.

I DO know however that the Vancouver Canucks are still in the NHL. I know that because I saw them DESTROY some crappy team on Saturday night.

No argument at all Reverdy...but Scotty's Detroit stint doesn't detract from the brilliance of KH or the achievements of MB - it merely reinforces that for over two decades the Red Wings have been synonymous with EXCELLENCE in the NHL.

Good thing they are still around, so that they can self-destroy to the benefit of a team on its way to the old folks home.

But apparently they CAN'T self-destroy against a totally HOPELESS team like the leafs, as illustrated by their 4-0 WHIPPING and HUMILIATION of Canada's National Embarrassment.

Who are you talkin about Reverdy? Dead--Troit????

I see you're back from a very well-deserved two week vacation.

You'll be pleased to know that in your absence Doc and Reverdy were here to defend the leafs and to attack the Wings, Habs, Bruins, etc.

What was NICE was that THEY were able to do it without resorting to insults, name-calling, or bwahahas. They managed to use correct grammar and spelling and they actually replied to HOCKEY issues in a HOCKEY thread by using arguments with HOCKEY facts, statistics, and opinions. You could learn a lot from the way your two comrades post! (Typically, YOUR idea of a brilliant comment right after returning from your vacation contains ZERO HOCKEY information and nothing but a silly comment like "Dead-Troit". Do you HAVE anything intelligent to say about HOCKEY?)

To me, it starts with ownership. All kidding aside, if not for Mike Ilitch taking over over 30 years ago, the Wings may not be where they are now. As a Leaf's fan, I hope that the new ownership team that is now in place, will be just as inspired as he was.

Very well said.

OMG Mr. Reverdy! I almost got sick but great post! ahaahh!

Leafs took 4 out of 6pts on da west coast, Merci Beaucoup! Me is very happy these days!
If Iggy indeed got conjugal visits while he was in MERB jail, I sure hope they weren't from Mrs C. That would be enough to make anyone abstinent for the rest of their lives. LOL!

Funny that you forget to mention that 3 out of the 4 Cups were won under Scotty Bowman's coaching, arguably one of the best coaches in professional sport's history. I am sure you know of which team's management he's a part of now. ;)

And Holland owes him as well, for all the groundwork he did, before taking over GM duties.

If the Wings are where they are today, they owe it in great part to Bowman.

I would say that Jimmy Devellano started the whole thing

And he learned from the best- Bill Torrey and Al Arbour of the Islanders

Best Regards

Smuler

Oh..and Ken Holland was a Maple Leaf draft pick..I'm sure that was not mentioned for some reason

Smuler is correct about Devellano, who also happens to be a former minority owner of the Maple Leafs. Ken Holland had it made when he became GM since his predecessors had paved the road for him. Bryan Murray & Scotty Bowman also deserve credit for turning around the Wings' fortunes prior to Holland taking over the job.

It appears that your two-week vacation was not spent studying grammar or spelling. I guess the cowboy collection took up all your time.

Too bad your leafs got clobbered and humiliated by Vancouver but you can at least take some comfort in the fact that Boston won the World Series. Congratulations!

Unfortunately for the leafs, they have not been as lucky, since they have been cursed with bad ownership and poor management for half a century. On the other hand, they HAVE been fortunate enough to be blessed with a large contingent of Koolaid drinkers who have been very happy to support Canada's National Embarrassment throughout its 46 YEARS of complete and utter failure.

I'm a little surprised by this Reverdy: I thought that you were far above the inane and juvenile horseshit that iggy spews out on a regular basis.

Prior to his return you were making posts in support of the leafs and occasionally against other teams (such as Wings, Habs, Bruins...) but you were making intelligent HOCKEY-related arguments. It's really sad to see the level of your writing descend so many levels into the realm of inarticulate, childish personal insults and woeful attempts at humor that are iggy's specialties.

Not that your Wings have been immune to that curse: Jimmy Carson rings a bell? You can count your blessings that the Kings were fool enough to trade Coffey for him.

Jimmy Carson? The guy who, as a teenager, had one of the greatest first years ever in the NHL? The guy who was the centerpiece in a trade for a guy named Gretzky back in 88? Yeah, Jimmy never really lived up to his initial potential. What a SHAME that Detroit got "stuck" with Paul Coffey (or should I say Hall of Famer Paul Coffey?).

However, I am very pleased to see that you are back to making HOCKEY arguments - and intelligent ones at that. The last thing this board needs is another iggy, but your intelligent contributions (even if your favorite team is the opposite of mine) are more than welcome. Cheers!

Pot, meet Kettle ... here ya go bud, so you understand ;)

The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to claim that a person is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another

It is not my fault you take this stuff so seriously in here, you should loosen the neck tie some. (thats great and free advice from me to you my friend) and like Mod8 always says "if you cant handle things, grow a thicker skin or dont post in the sports threads" more great advice.

GLG!

I don't take it seriously and Lord knows I sure as hell don't take YOU seriously.

Unfortunately, you usually get away with your personal insults and juvenile, illiterate horseshit but if people respond in kind they often get suspended. It would be nice if the rules were applied equally to everyone because if I could get away with the crap that you do I could respond on your level and completely destroy you as usual.

Mind you, the last thing the board needs is someone else putting in the illiterate, sophomoric garbage that you do on a regular basis. This is a HOCKEY thread: if you want to put in a HOCKEY post please do so, but whenever people put in a HOCKEY post that you don't like, you are totally unable to argue it on HOCKEY grounds so you stoop to your pathetic little bullshit and namecalling. If you can't talk HOCKEY, why the hell don't you stay out of the HOCKEY threads?

Awesome HOCKEY post!

(neck tie bro, neck tie) ;)

Here's a hockey post for you. Why have the leafs reached the playoffs only once in the past decade? Why did they then pull off the most EPIC COLLAPSE in the history of Stanley Cup game sevens? Why have they not won a Cup in 46 YEARS? Why have they not even made it to the finals in 46 YEARS? Why did Brian Burke FAIL to make the playoffs every single year that he was Toronto's GM, even though he stated that his OBJECTIVE EVERY YEAR was to make the playoffs? Why have you predicted EVERY YEAR since joining MERB that the Leafs would do well...only to have them FAIL every year? Why did you predict that Boston would win all the remaining games and the Cup in 2013 only to see Boston win NO games from that point on, as Chicago then won every remaining game and the Cup? Why did you predict Philly over Chicago when Chicago won the first of its two recent Cups?

Finally, why do you continually make fun of the Red Wings, when they have made the playoffs for 22 consecutive years, won 4 recent Cups, won 6 recent President's Trophies, won countless individual awards, and ALWAYS outperform the Leafs? If the Wings are "dead things" as you so ludicrously like to say, then surely to God the Leafs are dead, buried, AND long decayed!

Now let's see you give a HOCKEY response - something that you always seem completely unable to do.
