The Leafs get out scored, out hit, out shot and out fought ...

Celine hides behind the refs and cheap shots Erskine then the benchwarming slug Orr has to fight for the $49M 'captain' and gets tuned up in the process

Orr was absolutely destroyed! Unlike iggy, who is only an amateur punching bag, Colton is a professional who is paid a decent amount of money to get beaten.

But let's give Mr. Orr the credit he deserves. Sure, he was absolutely clobbered by Erskine (man versus boy) but he DID continue demonstrating his remarkable offensive prowess. Yes folks, the streak is still alive! Sincere congratulations to NHL forward Colton Orr for his remarkable achievement in scoring ZERO goals, ZERO assists, and ZERO points in the 34 games he has played this season. (Coincidentally, ZERO is also the number of points the leafs have picked up in their last 4 games.) But at least Colton has 80 PIM so far this year....because isn't it ALWAYS good to have the OTHER team on a powerplay?

Latest Leaf Stats

Lost 4 in a row, without even picking up a single loser point
Lost 11 of last 16 games, 15 of last 22, 17 of last 25
Won in regulation time only 2 of last 25 games and only 4 of last 32 games
Outshot in 37 of 46 games this season
Outscored 21-7 in last 4 games
Goal differential of minus 16 on the season

5th in the Atlantic Division (1 point ahead of 6th)
10th (!!!!) in the Eastern Conference (3 points ahead of 13th!!!!)
20th (!!!!) in the league (5 points ahead of 27th!!!!)

Most Recent Goalie Trade

Ben Scrivens to LA for Jonathan Bernier to toronto. Scrivens is 15-7-5 with a .931 save percentage. Bernier is 13-14-4 with a .925 save percentage. How's that trade working out?

Most Recent Player Trade

John-Michael Liles (plus extras, of course, because the leafs ALWAYS like to throw in extras) to Carolina for Tim Gleason to toronto.

Prior to the trade, Liles played 6 games with the leafs and was a minus 2, whereas Gleason played 17 games with the Canes and was a minus 7. Advantage Liles.

Since the trade, Liles has played 5 games with the Canes and is a plus 7, and has even scored a goal (against the woeful leafs, of course), whereas Gleason has played 3 games with the leafs and is a minus 4. By gosh, that's advantage Liles AGAIN. One more thing: Gleason is a bigger cap hit than Liles! How's THAT trade working out?

On a similar theme, Mikhail Grabovski (who was bought out by the leafs and subsequently told the world what he thought of Randy Carlyle) is having a fine season, has recently been put on Washington's top line with Ovechkin, and had a good game in the 3-2 Cap win over the leafs. In that game, Grabo had 1 shot, 1 hit, 1 assist, and was plus 2, to sock it to Carlyle and the leafs. Plus 2, by the way, was TWO better than ANY leaf, since the HIGHEST leaf plus/minus rating in that game was...ZERO!!!!!!

Mikhail Grabovski

This guy is worth a separate post.

Carlyle didn't like Grabo, so he WASTED his talents, thereby hurting the leafs as only a coach can do, and inspiring Nonis to buy him out.

Grabo was swooped up by the Caps. He is now on their top line and is Washington's 3rd highest point producer, behind all-world talents Backstrom and Ovechkin.

Grabo has 12 goals, 20 assists, 32 points. He would also be 3rd on the leafs (gee, do you think MAYBE it was a mistake to buy him out? Chuckle!) behind only Kessel with 40 and JVR with 33. Let's look at a further comparison:

Grabo is only 8 points behind Kessel, yet the "brilliant" (ha ha) leafs BOUGHT OUT Grabo and extended Kessel for 8 years at $64 million! Grabo is plus 6 this season, while Kessel is minus 3. Grabo has a 54.4% winning faceoff percentage, Kessel has a laughable 15.4%. Grabo does OTHER things, Kessel does NOTHING but score...and he doesn't do THAT very often.

Grabo is only 1 point behind JVR. Grabo's plus 6 is better than JVR's minus 5 and Grabo's 54.4 faceoff percentage is better than JVR's 40.9.

Question: Was the Grabo buyout a wise move by the leafs?

Clarke MacArthur

Also worth a separate post.

Toronto chose not to make an offer to resign him for the same reasons Grabo was bought out - Caryle told Nonis he didn't want him back !

Signed by Ottawa to 2 year deal at a very reasonable $3.25M per year: is 3rd in points behind Ryan and Karlson and is a +12 !

Would be tied for second with JVR with 33 points !

Question: Was not resigning MacArthur (even though he wanted to stay) a wise move by the Leafs?

The "Magic" of Brian Burke

If the rumors are true, the Calgary Flames are about to shoot themselves in the foot (as usual) but this time it's a BIGTIME wound.

I posted this on September 5, shortly before the Flames officially announced that they had hired Brian Burke. Seven hours later, I made another post, in which the important part said, "By the way, I'm no Jay Feaster fan, but POOR JAY FEASTER (and, needless to say, POOR FLAMES FANS)". I did this because it was obvious that Burke would fire his "friend" Jay before long and equally obvious that Burke would assume the job of GM, at least on a temporary basis. It was also obvious that the Flames would take a turn for the worse.

Sure enough, on December 12 (less than 3 months later) it was announced that Burke had fired his "friend" and would take over as Interim GM.

Let's see the results so far:

At the time Feaster was fired, the Flames were 11-15-4, for a winning percentage of 36.67%. Not very good.

In the games since Burke took over, the Flames have been 4-8-2, for a winning percentage of 28.57%. Far WORSE than under Feaster!

At this point in the current season (adding the team's total stats under both Feaster and Burke), the Flames are 15-23-6, for a winning percentage of 34.09% - pretty dismal, but only THAT "high" because Feaster's numbers have helped to raise Burke's.

Considering how Burke fared in his 4 years of complete and utter failure with the leafs, these dreadful results are not at all surprising. Burke was brought in to be the "savior" of the leafs and to turn around the years of failure under his predecessor John Ferguson Jr. Burke himself proudly proclaimed that his goal was ALWAYS to make the playoffs. So, what happened? Well, in 4 years with the leafs, Burke NEVER made the playoffs. Moreover, his pitiful record of 129-135-42 was WORSE than the much-maligned (unfairly?) Ferguson's was!

Kessel is a top 5 right winger, only getting better every season and a borderline superstar, meanwhile knight will at best be a third liner in the nhl if he ever makes it, hamilton has a ways to go to be a legitimate top 4 dman and Serguin is well, shipped off to Dallas, that tells you something right there about the superstar he was supposed to be and what boston thinks about that scenario.

The trade is more than fair for the Leafs with many in the know saying the Leafs actually came out on top now that Kessel has took his all around game to the next level under Carlyle.

Thank You Boston!

Glad you're happy....but now let's check the FACTS:

Since the trade, Boston has one Cup and one other Final appearance and has always made the playoffs. The leafs, on the other hand, have only MADE the playoffs once (in a SHORTENED season, of course), where they lost...to the BRUINS...in the first round (of course!) with the most EPIC COLLAPSE in the history of game sevens. Now, although Seguin has left the B's, they still have benefits from the other players in the trade with toronto and from what they got from Dallas. Loui Erikson, for example, is a very good player (not lucky about the injury, but that's hockey).

As for Kessel versus Seguin, let's look at the FACTS:

This season Seguin has played 42 games. He has 21 goals, 20 assists, 41 points. Kessel has played 4 MORE games (46) and has the SAME number of goals (21),one LESS assist (19), one LESS point (40).
Seguin is plus 6 on the season, Kessel is minus 3. Seguin has a faceoff percentage of 40.6%, Kessel 15.4%.
Seguin is almost 5 years younger than Kessel.
Seguin has a cap hit of $5.75 million (6 years for $34.5 million). Kessel has a much bigger cap hit of $8 million per year for a longer period of time (8 years for $64 million) even though as we have seen he is 5 years older and his stats are worse in EVERY department.
This is Seguin's 4th year in the league. So far he has never missed the playoffs. He has played in 42 career playoff games and has 1 Cup win and 1 other Final appearance. This is Kessel's EIGHTH year in the league and he has been to the playoffs only 3 times (twice with the Bruins and only once - for 7 games, following the shortened season) with the leafs. He has never won a Cup and never made it to the Final. He has played in a total of 22 career playoff games - meaning that in four MORE seasons than Seguin, Kessel has played in 20 LESS playoff games - OR, you could say that he has played TWICE as long as Seguin but has only played HALF as many playoff games!

In EVERY measurable stat, Seguin VASTLY outperforms Phil. Oh, one more thing: Seguin has been quoted as saying that he wants to model his game after the great all-around player Patrice Bergeron, while Kessel has no ambition to do ANYTHING except score goals...and as we've seen above, Seguin is TIED with Phil in goals.

No comparison! But GLAD you're happy with the Kessel deal! Have some more Koolaid.

Why are there no Senaturd fans on here? Probably all hiding like cairo will be once the Dead Things fall out of a playoff spot.

The quote above was posted by iggy (who, according to the blurb under his name on all his posts, now proudly calls himself "Epic Party Planner" - gee, wonder what THAT refers to?) on January 3.

It's an "interesting" and typically iggyish quote because I never hide.

It's also "interesting" in view of the fact that iggy has disappeared from the hockey threads during the latest leaf descent into the bowels of Hell (4 consecutive losses, with not even a loser point, outscored 21-7, humiliated time and time again, OUT of a playoff spot at the current time, etc., etc.). His last post here was on the morning of January 6 and, as I write this, it is the evening of January 11. Can it be that the little guy should look in his MIRROR the next time he uses a word like "hiding"?

P.S.: "Senaturd". Very classy - NOT. I guess we can add "Senaturds" to "dead things", "scabs", and "boston teddy bears" - ALL very classy - NOT! ALL those teams - as well as every OTHER team in the NHL (even the Flames!) is far, far classier than the leafs and their pathetic fans.

Go Hawks!

Go Kings!

:D

Well, IF you get your wish, and IF the Hawks and Kings both win in regulation time (I know, I know: winning in regulation time is a concept that is unknown to leaf fans), then Montreal will "only" be 8 points ahead of the leafs after the same number of games, and Detroit will "only" be 1 point ahead of the leafs and still have "only" 1 game in hand on the leafs...and the leafs will STILL be out of playoff contention.

I guess it must be awful being a leaf fan: even if your wishes come true, you're STILL hopelessly mired in shit!

Montreal & Toronto
Habs nailed it !

We're still in top 10 while the Maple Laughs are now down to 22 spot.

That's what I call a major landslide from top to bottom.

BTW I'm not surprised that Iggy used EPIC... as I said before it's the proof that the word EPIC from last year EPIC collapse of the Leafs got stuck in any Leaf's fans mind.
It's printed for life and he doesn't even know it. :)

Look behind you.
Fuck the Oilers beat Pittsburgh :) Too bad I can envision a 5 game losing streak very soon.

The leafs, who have lost their last 4 games in a row (all in regulation time, meaning no loser points) didn't even play on Saturday and STILL had a bad night, as ALL the teams they hoped would lose....WON.

Consequently, these are the standings in the Atlantic Division:

Boston 60 points in 45 games
Tampa Bay 58 in 45
Montreal 57 in 46
Detroit 50 in 45
Ottawa 48 in 46

and then there's....

Canada's National Embarrassment 47 in 46

LOVE IT!!!

Toronto is now in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, only 1 point ahead of 13th place Columbus and only 6 points ahead of the 15th place Islanders!

Of the 16 teams in the East, only Pittsburgh has played more games (at 47) than toronto's 46. NINE of the 16 teams have played fewer games than the leafs.

At least the Leafs have a future. The Dead Things' only future is out of the playoffs for years to come.

p.s. You can only dream of having a player of Kessel's class in your lineup. That slovak & that swede you keep referring to simply do not measure up.

Time to change your opinion perhaps?

The Courage of Dion Phaneuf

He danced with Kreider and ended up flat on his back....but who has the "captain" backed down from this season?

Chara? Lucic? Subban? Scott? Erskine? Who else? (Please feel free to add names.)
