The luck of the Oilers :violin:

Sorry Sol :(

Huh? They've had nothing BUT luck over the past 6-7 years, constantly getting to draft the top picks year after year. Last year, they finished third-last in the standings, yet still lucked out and won the lottery....allowing them to draft McDavid.

Incompetence shouldn't be confused with bad luck. It wouldn't surprise me if they wound up at the bottom AGAIN this season and/or winning the lottery again, giving them Austin Mathews.

By the way, fantastic game by Tyler Seguin last night in his return to Boston.

Not too worried, with the complete makeover this year losing McDavid for a month or two is not a death punch.

The "Oil" were a borderline playoff team WITH McDavid and he has become a HUGE part of that team already so i don't know STN, i hope they can continue to trend upwards because with all those years of top picks to not make it again this year would be a catastrophe of sorts.

I Agree with JC, the oilers have Eberle coming back soon and I'm impressed with take kid they called up Leon. It's not the same team as last year, they're improved.

Glad you agree:smile: You'll probably also be very pleased that Henrik's next goal will be his 300th. And as you know Henrik's other abilities (defensive play, character, courage, sportsmanship, leadership, guidance, etc.) are even more valuable than the impressive points he puts up. A great player!

The wait is over: Henrik scored his 300th against James Reimer. Bravo Mr. Zetterberg:thumb:

Congrats to Detroit's great rookie Dylan Larkin (selected FIFTEENTH in the draft!) currently leading the NHL in plus-minus with plus 12.

P.K. Subban is second with plus 11.

The Phenomenal Nick Lidstrom

Anyone who knows anything about hockey is aware that Nick Lidstrom ranks among the greatest who ever played. Check this terrific article to get an idea of HOW great he was...and also of how great Detroit has consistently been at drafting fabulous players as very low picks that other teams failed to find.

More About the Perfect Human

We all know about the Cups, trophies, and awards that Nick won with the Wings. We also all know about his great stats.

But not everyone is aware of these highlights that were pointed out in the great article linked to in the previous post:

1. First European to captain a Cup winner.
2. First European to win the Conn Smythe.
3. Triple Gold Club: Won the World Championship, the Olympics, the Stanley Cup.
4. Career plus-minus of plus 450.
5. 590 power play points - most ever by a d-man.
6. 40 shorthanded points - second only to Chelly among d-men.
7. NHL's all-time leader in minutes played.
8. Super-durable: Missed only 44 games in 20 seasons (many of the missed games coming when the Wings had clinched the President's Trophy and rested their stars for the playoffs).

And the Wings got him with the 53rd (!!!!!!!!!!) pick in the draft!

Wings got lucky last night. But luck is part of the game .

True on both counts.

The Wings were lucky when Reimer totally blew it on Henrik's 300th goal but "luck" is always a part of the game. On the other hand, when a player on one team (in this case Reimer of the Leafs) blows it, is it really "luck" or just a case of one team being infinitely better than the other? On that theme, the Wings were also "lucky" that Gardiner and JVR botched their coverage in OT allowing Kindl to score the winning goal, but again the fact that the Leafs have players making bad mistakes isn't really "luck" - it's just that the players lack skill. In the long run the better team almost always wins and it's the win that counts.

I guess we could say the Leafs were "unlucky" that Petr Mrazek played very well - but then again Petr Mrazek almost always plays very well. He's just a far better goalie than Reimer.

That's why teams like the Wings and Habs have such a rich history: the good teams make their own "luck".

michel therrien said 1 week the doc 1 month . We all know the doc is always right

I don't take credit for the one month thing. It's what i heard through the grapevine. But i also don't trust a word Michel Therrien says, so it's likely more than one week.

But it won't make a difference. Condom is doing the job and if he continues performing well, management might start to wonder if Price really deserves to be one of the top-paid players in hockey once his current contract is up.

The Rangers have a tremendous team. But let's be honest: the Leafs deserved the win last night. Were it not for Bernier......
