So opening night just started about 20 minutes ago. NE v. KC..the Pats will most likely win, but I hate them. I don't have any players on my fantasy team playing tonight so I'm not as invested. Which team do you guys think will win it all this season?

42 points is the most New England has given up in 17 years Bill Belichik has coached them. This is what happens when you do not have any pass rush, fail to pressure the opposing QB and you face a balanced offensive team. Wait until New England plays Pittsburgh, it could be scary to watch how many points the Steelers put up on them. If you do not have a pass rush in today's NFL you are in big trouble. Alex Smith 28-35 with 148.6 passer rating last night. Ouch. Meanwhile, Tom Brady looked like a 40 year old QB, because that is what he is. 70 passer ratings are not numbers you see from him ever, but we will be seeing games like this from the aging wonderboy. History teaches that NFL QBs in their 40s are not playing All Pro level football. I would expect injuries and inconsistency from Brady this year and the Patriots will finally see what they have in Garoppalo, who fortunately for them looks like a very good QB that deserves a chance to start.

I totally agree with you. No pass rush and you'll be in for a long season. I'm curious to see how JJ Watt bounces back this year. His job should be easier with Clowney on the opposite end. As much hate as I have for the Patriots, I wouldn't count them out. Brady should put up respectable numbers this season. I also think Jimmy G. looks promising from what I saw last season. It's been a long off season..so glad football is back!

Go Bills go!!!

The Bills destroyed the hapless NY Jets yesterday and are looking good!!! Shady McCoy played great & so did the rest of the Bills offence. As for the defence they were solid and were a turnover machine. Guess what? The Bills are in sole possession of first playce in the AFC East!!!!

Surprises of the day: the Bengals being destroyed at home by the Ravens and the Texans getting easily beaten by the Jaguars. These two losses by teams i had picked to win killed my football pool. Worse is the fact i switched my Jags pick in favor of the Texas at the last minute.

The Doc won $3000 this weekend betting on a 4-game parlay favoring the Rams, Vikings, Eagles & Raiders. Points spread was in effect.

This week my 4-game parlay favors the Bears (+7), Saints (+7), Titans (-1.5) and Colts (+8.5).

Tom Savage's Agent Hammers Texans For Benching Him

Very interesting to hear an agent chirping this loud about a client getting benched:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...t-says-houston-texans-benching-makes-no-sense

It's true the OL did not protect him and WRs dropped balls, but I think it was more about rookie QB DeShaun Watson being given a look. Watson won an NCAA championship at Clemson last year and I think the Texans wanted to see what they had, but Watson was not much better than Savage.

Edelmann out for the year, Amendola (who is made of glass) and Hightower not practicing meaning they probably don't play in NO, Ninkovich retired = no pass rush, Tom Terrific now 40 yrs old...I don't think even Belly gets thse guys to play like he wants. Could be a long season for NE. As for Bills fans I wouldnt get too excited over a win against the Jets who will lead the pack in the Sam Darnold sweepstakes. Marcel Dareus being paid 100mm to be a run stuffing zero tech instead of a disruptive 3 tech. Makes no sense.

Starry,

I agree with what you said there are certainly signs that New England's lack of pass rush and Brady's age could be problems. Historically aging QBs tend to lose effectiveness rapidly usually due to an injury issue. Peyton Manning had some injuries and lost it all pretty quickly. In his last season he couldn't throw deep. They used him only on short passing routes because he could no longer complete the bomb. It's ditto with Brady but the NE offense mostly involves a short passing game. I think NE could start 0-2 but they should still win their division which sucks.

EB one has to expect NE to take the AFC East, but no longer because they are the best team and organization in the NFL. They will take it because the Division is weak: Bills are rebuilding (again) under a new coachng staff and GM, the Jets are prolly the worst team in the league and Miami has lost their QB for the year (JC will not hold up thru a 16 game schedule imo). Despite a relatively easy schedule I would not be surprised if the Pats lost 5 or maybe even 6 games this year. Without Edlemann their short passing game will suffer greatly. He was Tom's go to guy and the best slot receiver in the game. They got Cooks a sub 4.4 burner from NO but Brady's long ball (never the best part of his game) is only about average now. Plus maybe its just my wishful thinking but I think I detect some softness in Brady's performance. He is 40 yrs old after all. He is one of the all time greats and is the winningest QB but if Peyton Manning and Brady were entering the draft today, Tom would not be my pick. Heck, Dan Marino, Aaron Rogers and a few others have a better basic skillset. They can do anything Tom can do but there are things they could do that Tom cannot. He benefits from the system as much as the system benefits from him. The Pats won 11 games under Cassels when Tom was out.
Gilleslee is a good back who can run inside or outside the tackles but he is not a short yardage back (as we saw vs KC). They no longer have that on their roster now that LG is gone. On defence their secondary is pretty good (esp D. McCourty) but when they shift to zone coverage Gilmore is a liability (got badly beaten vs KC) plus he hates tackling and is therefore not good in run support. Losing Ninkovich, Chandler Jones and J. Collins is going to hurt a lot and if Hightower is out for any period of time M. Patricia will certainly have his work cut out for him.
I'm really eager to see what they can do vs Brees. All the NE fanboys are saying that they will turn it around immediately and show the world why they are the champs. They are the best at making in game and in week adjustments but I honestly expect their problems to continue to be evident. There is absolutely no way they repeat this year and they probably wont be back to the big dance for quite a while.

Starry I agree with your analysis. I think New England is not the team to beat in the AFC, Pittsburgh is. But it will be interesting to see what happens at New Orleans.

The only team I know is Kansas City, so I root for them. Because they have a quebeccer in their line up. Not a nobody the dude is a physician! It seems he gets a lot of respect in the locker room because of that.

Cheers,
