The Devils won both of their preseason games last night. They sent Jack Hughes to Montreal but kept Timo Meier and Ondrej Palat in NJ and they both scored against the Flyers. I wonder with these split squad games how do they decide who goes where?

Florida played 2 split squad games at home last night, both against Nashville and won both of those games 5-0 and 5-2. I am wondering what different venues they they played those games at? How many ice rinks are there in Miami anyway?

Regarding your first question the coaching staff makes these decisions depending on several factors. First off they likely already know which players will be on their opening night lineup. The preseason is simply a formality & allows them to try different strategies & line combinations since the games don’t really mean anything. It offers them an insight on their conditioning & gives them a first-hand view at their organizational talent & prospect & how they’ve been able to adapt playing alongside seasoned pros. A competitive team like the Devils knows a player of Jack Hughes‘ stature has nothing to prove & may figure he may appreciate a nice relaxed vacation prior to the regular season by sending him to play in Mtl. It’s also possible that they asked him beforehand which of the two games he preferred to play in. In other words the team is just going through the motions anxious to start the season.

As for the second question both games were played at the same arena in Sunrise, Florida but at different times. Just like a doubleheader in baseball.

And lastly there are currently at least 20 hockey rinks around Florida. Florida has two NHL teams but also has a few professional minor league teams in the state & lower level leagues.

That's what I am curious about, why Hughes gets to go to Montreal while Meier and Palat have to stay in NJ. They are not dogshit players and they may want a nice relaxed vacation in Montreal and probably have their favorite escort agencies and escorts there. They have been in the league for a while. Maybe they are saying to themselves, "WTF, why does Hughes get to go to Montreal and have fun but we have to stay home and play the Flyers at the Pru?" I note that Meier and Palat both scored goals in the Devils beatdown of the Flyers and sweep off the split squad games. Florida also swept their doubleheader with Nashville.

There may be 20 hockey rinks in Florida but I will bet you none of them are outdoors.

As you can see below, Meier and Palat are not happy and smiling.

The other thing that should be mentioned is that they say that getting the "Devil you know is better than getting the Devil you Don't know." The Habs knew Jack Hughes and had his scouting report, but getting this Devil that they knew wasn't better than getting the Devils they didn't know. He was more Devilish.

The Habs suck & will continue to suck this year & for at least the next couple of years. The Devils figured it was probably good for Hughes’ confidence to play a game against them & score some goals & dominate.

A couple of my friends attended that game & told me they were charging $16.50 for a beer! Holy shit! They ended up only having one beer each. It’s too bad the team isn’t owned by a brewery or else maybe prices would come down! ;)

Here are the most expensive NHL arenas for the full hockey experience

Some are a lot cheaper to attend than the Bell Centre. The drawback is that you're not at a Habs game.

Here are the most expensive NHL arenas for the full hockey experience

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews celebrates a goal at Scotiabank Arena in April. You won't be celebrating when you see the total cost of a ticket, hot dog, drink and parking at the arena. JOHN E. SOKOLOWSKI / USA TODAY SPORTS

Who knew it was so expensive to be a Leafs fan?
We’re not just talking about the emotional trauma — we’re talking cash money. If you’re planning to catch a Toronto Maple Leafs game in their hometown and want to have a hot dog, a drink and parking at Scotiabank Arena, it’ll cost around $240 per person. That’s the most expensive arena to catch a game in Canada, according to an analysis by online gambling site time2play.com. They analyzed the cost of a ticket, beer, hot dog and parking during the 2021-22 season. If you’re a one-beer-per-period kind of person, add that on, and don’t forget to tip.
The second-most expensive Canadian arena is the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, at $196.79. Looking at all NHL arenas, the Bell Centre is the seventh-most expensive.
NHL-wide, the most expensive full-hockey experience is at a New York Rangers game, at $247.99 Canadian per person.
If you decide to go without food and drink, the most expensive NHL ticket is for a Seattle Kraken game, at $172.58. They also boast the most expensive hot dog, at a whopping $10.53.
All right, that’s a lot. You can save a ton by visiting the cheapest arena in the NHL, if you happen to be in Arizona for a Coyotes game ($115.83).

Looks like Samsonov still sucks, picked him as my last draft pick hoping for a turnaround.
Just noticed that it looks like the Oilers solved their goalie - defense issues .

What a start for the CANUCKS....second big win vs OILERS ....and bad start for EDM--0/2---avec un avantage de 5 contre 3 en 3ème période ont été incapables d'égaler le pointage....and does not look good with their goalies.
