The winning goal video withe Vinny Trochek's description of the play from his vantage point:

"The deciding play began when Carolina's Dmitry Orlov lost control of a puck in the corner in the defensive zone. Vincent Trocheck collected it on the right side and sent it toward the crease to Panarin, who tipped the puck behind him as defenseman Jalen Chatfield tried to push him away from the crease.

The puck slipped under the right elbow and past the ribs of Kochetkov, sending Panarin into celebration and the Rangers soon joining him near the door toward the tunnel off the ice.

“I think Orlov, the puck bounced off his stick,” Trocheck said. “And then I just saw a little bit of daylight, saw Bread crashing the net, and it was a great tip by him.”
Awesome play by Panarin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rempe Controversy!!!!
I was listening to Rangers talk radio this morning and there is a huge controversy about Rempe with many fans very upset that he was a healthy scratch last night even though fans acknowledge that Filip Chytil is a dynamic young player whose elite stick handling and speed were on full display last night. Fans were arguing that Rempe, affectionately nicknamed "The Human Zamboni" because of his ability to clear the ice of bullies for the skill players, was largely responsible for the long string of winning hockey the Rangers have had coming into and starting the playoffs. The Rangers were statistically outplayed last night and one noticeable area in that regard was hits. It was pointed out that Rempe while playing 5-7 minutes per game regularly and consistently led the entire team in hits, this including guys like Trouba.

Is the coaching staff too nervous about the unnecessary penalties Rempe takes and the officials clear cut prejudice against him, or does what Chytil add in terms of giving the Rangers 4 lines that are staffed with legitimate NHL scoring threats outweigh the Rempe positives?

The war of words has already started with the Bruins saying what Tkachuk did to Pastrnak was very dirty:
I did not like some of the punches that were thrown. But it's sounding like the Bruins will be sending out their goons BIG TIME.

Here is an interesting story on Bruins National Anthem singer Todd Angilly. The dude has a serious set of pipes (I am impressed by his singing and especially his hitting of the high notes in the Star Spangled Banner, which are difficult to hit and hold), but he actually has a day job with Essex County after working 12 years as a Probation Officer. I would have guessed that he was a professional opera singer:

Montgomery Blames Self For 6-2 Defeat, Says His Game Plan Sucked
This is in stark contrast to the Maple Leafs series, when he was openly critical of Pastrnak, who then scored the series winning OT goal. Had that goal not been scored, Sheldon Keefe maybe would still have a job and still be working.

Edmonton Rallies To Win In OT!!!!!!! Here is the thing with Edmonton- they really have to win this year because Draisaitl will be leaving the team to go to the Boston Bruins, and McDavid will then become disgruntled by the organizational step back and he, too, will leave eventually Edmonton and go to some American team, my preference being the NY Rangers. In any event, while they still have both guys, Edmonton scored 4 goals last night and Draisaitl and McDavid scored or assisted on all 4, amassing 4 points each, with the guy below netting the OT winner.

But is this Edmonton team good enough? My feeling is that this is the weaker western conference semi, and the winner of Dallas-Colorado series will advance to the Stanley Cup finals to meet the winner of NY Rangers vs. Florida Panthers. At the moment I am extremely worried about the Florida Panthers because they are tough, good, balanced, have 2 very good goalies, and have great coaching, combined with which they are hungry. The NYR will need everyone to contribute to beat that team.
The hero of last night:

Hurricanes, as EB mentioned, are 0 in 15, I said they looked like the Habs in PP. Rangers, so far, don’t let any Canes reach loose puck and rebounds in front of the goal. I’m really impressed by the blue shirt’s defense. Should be a great show against Florida.

I don;t know if any of you Canadians get the TNT feed on these hockey games, but Henrik Lundqvist's goalie analyses are amazing. Anson Carter, Paul Bissonnette and all the other talking heads are riveted when Henrik speaks on goalie protocol. King Henrik was extremely critical of the stickhandling of Canes goalie Kochetkov, and of Shesterkin. Henrik was given a stick and a pseudo goal in the TNT studio, and he demonstrated proper stickhandling technique on plays developing from the left to avoid deflection goals. He explained the goalie protocol, which is to sweep the stick to the left on the ice and cover the 5 hole, and not allow the stick to be in the air or other position as it was on those deflection goals. This makes the goalie prone to deflection goals such as exactly what occurred. Henrik contended that with proper stickhandling technique those goals probably do not happen, or their chances of happening get reduced.

Colorado allowed 2 goals to a 5'8", 21 year old rookie and was stymied by the 1 time Team USA first team goalie who had 29 saves/.966 save%, and between these 2 heroes, the people in Dallas had a lot to cheer about yesterday, also with the the Mavericks going up 2-1 on the OKC Thunder with Patrick Mahomes courtside. The air in Colorado suits these 2 just fine:

Yes... BUT une victoire signée OETTINGER who closed the door all night long.....et ils ont été opportunistes en profitant des quelques occasions de scorer....et cette série could well b 3-0/DALLAS.

.and CANES ont bien résisté...BUT should b the end next game in NY.

The people who picked Colorado in this series do not understand that Oettinger is a legitimate quality starting NHL goaltender, whereas Georgiev is sort of a higher end backup goalie. These respective statuses have to be recognized for what they are in evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams, and respected. To use a Habs analogy it's like comparing Patrick Roy against Jaroslav Halak. BTW Halak is still playing in the Slovakian pro league.
