Panthers seriously playing with fire, it seems like some of their players forgot that a series is over after 4 wins not 3!
I wouldn’t say they necessarily got rid of Kuemper because they saw his contract as being a bad one. They got rid of him because number one LA wanted him & most importantly the Caps needed to free up cap space in order to get the deal done. On top of that Charlie Lingren became the team’s #1 goalie last season & since Kemper’s salary is what you’d usually pay a #1 goalie he was expendable & will now be LA’s #1 goalie. And even though he’ll be paid like a #1 goalie there are many goalies in the league making more than him.Dubuois for Kuemper- this is your classic bad contract for bad contract trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dubois got a lot of money only to be a huge disappointment in LA where he did not fit in and way underachieved, while Kuemper, after winning Stanley Cup with Avs, provided 2 years of just average to slightly below average goalie services, and was ultimately beaten out by the younger, cheaper Charlie Lindgren. Although I understand that Cam Talbot is going to be 37 before the season starts, I think LA just got worse at goalie. They trade for a guy who is a few years younger but not better. I think LA thinks Kuemper will be better playing in front of their defense than Washiington's. We will see if they are right.![]()
Kings trade C Dubois to Capitals for G Kuemper
The Capitals acquired forward Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Kings for goaltender Darcy Kuemper on Wednesday.www.espn.com
A lot of what you say is true however the simple fact is that Charlie Lingren played better than expected & ended up taking away Kuemper’s job. For me i’ve always seen him as how he basically played in DC & although he played well for the Avs when they won the Cup he wasn’t the reason they won. But to his credit he capitalized with the situation & got a big contract (to his standards) after the Cup win. But it was due to good timing more than anything since his contract at the time was ending. But Kuemper provided slightly below average goalie production for the life of his contract based on league average goalie production. League averages count all goalie stats. If you just took stats of #1 goalies, his production was well below league average for what #1 goalies produce, while he was being paid to be a #1 goalie. Now LA is paying him to be their #1 goalie and obviously they think he will give them what Cam Talbot did, which was above league average goalie production. It remains to be seen if that will happen.
Superstar? I seriously doubt it, he’s not that kind of breed. Physically he’s cut for it but the mindset is not there. At the same salary Suzuki has much more impact than him, and he’s still progressing, not Dubois. Tortorella had the right reading on him and now both the Jets and the Kings have painfully realized it.Don’t be surprised if Dubois achieves superstar status in Wasington.
He’s probably pissed because he’s going from one of the best teams in hockey to the worst team in hockey. But he should blame his agent if he’s unhappy. He’s the one who got him to agree to the contract. Anyways his contributions have always been during the playoffs. He’s one of these players who seems to be asleep during the regular season who suddenly wakes up come playoffs time. I’d be shocked if he’s not dealt away by the Sharks. They’re a rebuilding team who will be starting from scratch by trading away their useful veterans. I believe that’s the only reason why they picked him up on waivers. To trade him & get something of value for him. Either a young prospect or a draft pick at the upcoming draft. I’d be surprised if he ever plays a game for them. It's now being widely reported that the Rangers and Sharks had a prearranged, handshake deal for the Rangers to waive and the Sharks to claim Barclay Goodrow:
Goodrow is reportedly unhappy with how this went down (as a handshake deal between two buddies who were former teammates), but he is getting his full contract (which he didn't really earn) and got traded to one of the 15 teams on his trade list, so I really have no idea why he is brooding. He will get way more ice time with the Sharks than he would have in NY, plus he will be thrust into a leadership role, which are things he should be happy about.![]()
Barclay Goodrow Is Not Pleased With The Rangers' And Sharks' Handshake Deal | Defector
Barclay Goodrow is a forward who kills penalties, delivers hits, offers veteran leadership, and is generally well-liked by teammates. He’s also, more broadly, one of the worst forwards in the league. He had four goals for the Rangers this regular season, then six in the playoffs, and if you want...defector.com
