I'm certain that all of them come to Canada of their own free will, and some join up while studying here in order to make ends meet. I can tell you that it's a lot better to be an SP in Canada than in China or in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, they make less than half of what they make here (which is still a bit of money). They come over from the mainland on 2 to 4 week tourist visas and get the Hong Kong mob to take care of them with flats and web advertising. The pay is much higher here and the opportuity to travel is hard to pass up. I usually ask them what their goals are, and some say to get some cash to start a business back home, and an opportunity to learn English; one told me she wanted to start a ladies clothes shop in her home town. Another told me she wanted to be a chef, and was planning to remain in Canada and immigrate after her studies; In between clients, she was studying French! Chinese girls do what it takes to get ahead. Winding up in an upscale condo in Montreal or Toronto must be paradise compared to being one of many in a Chinese brothel. I like them because they are generally pleasant, respectful, pretty, matter-of-fact, happy and a deal is a deal. I don't care for the physical GFE stuff, but get it emotionally as they are girlfriend like for the duration.
Trafficking occurs when a person is coerced. Those aren't happy campers, and you would be able to see the fear or the sorrow. Besides, if they really didn't want to be here in Canada, they could just walk out and call a police officer. Facilitators know that coercing a girl in Canada will land them in trouble; where trafficking does occur, such as in Israel or Turkey, girls will often seek help from the nicer clients to get the police, since they don't have an opportunity to walk away.
