So... I first came to Canada to drink your beer, fuck your women and piss in your streets...

Though in the process discovered a pretty cool place, i mean i can do without the traffic and bullshit in Toronto, though Montreal rocks dude, this is a pretty fucking cool place; wide cultural diversity, beautiful woman, great food, really active night life and happy healthy people... though, this snow shit sucks.

On some level i feel a kin, if you were to ask someone from California if they are an American, most will tell you "No, I am a Californian" ...likewise, it seems there are not many Canadians in Montreal.

You have a strange country, though a great city, thanks, can't wait to come back again...

Well, i've been to many hockey games in my life, used to play high-calibre hockey at some point in my past, and what happens once in a while at hockey games pales in comparison to what happened in Detroit recently in an NBA game against the Pacers.

I lived and worked in California and left it because it really sucks. I moved to CA from midwest and first thing I learnt was that Californians want to believe that rest of the America is a third world country and CA is a much better place. I tried to believe that, but soon learnt that it is much of a hype. The deficit, immigration, state taxes, cost of living, rip-off attitude of people etc. was not worth it. The only positive in CA is the food.

Montreal and Canada, in general, provide much hospitable environment. I don't like the taxes in Canada, but I do like the lifestyle.

I love to live in Pennsylvania and visit Canada

I agree with everything you say, except that I would go back to San Francisco even though it is pricy as all hell......I think it is our greatest city...........I also like everything about Canada except the high taxes, the cold weather and the hypocritical attitude towards violence in hockey............California has a much longer list, at least until Schwarznegger does his Terminator thing, which he probably will............still, Connecticut is a perfect home for me because it's the only place where I can make what I make and still have a reasonable drive to get to Canada, as long as the weather behaves.............

I beg to differ.

This is a question I have pondered for many years now. All of what's below of course, is my Humble opinion (with a capital H) and a summary of my own experiences.

I've met many americans while traveling in Europe and south america and Japan. Many foreigners I haved talked to seem to agree that americans generally exhibit obnoxious behaviour. Americans are not so well liked when they go abroad. It has nothing to do with their political affiliations.

One obvious reason generally applies to Jackass-the-show wannabes (younger adults) who want to show off their totally mega cool campus fratboyness. ("Dude! You totally puked on that chick's car! U'r SO COOL!")

Another problem relates more to older adults. While most folks are just fine and respectful and nice people and all that, I've found that americans tend to be very patriotic. Not that that's a bad thing, but going all over the world with the "America Numbah One" attitude is highly unpleasant. Also, while on trips in Europs, for example, I've met many americans who seem to know it all, culturally, socially and politically. Now, that's funny... American history only has 300 years, while many cultures around the world are often many thousands of years old. America Numba One indeed.

Me, I think that their military superiority is going to their head and that they associate this sense of "superiority" to the other aspects of american life and culture. Perhaps subconsciously. I don't know. But I've done business with many of them because I had to, and let me tell you that they they are real quick to bring out lawyers, clauses of breach of this and that, with a thick air of an impending lawsuit in the case of non compliance, and other bully tactics. It's very, very tiring. I don't like it.

And then, there's the obvious stupidities that get aired on TV. This is live TV that other nations get to see, too. TV is the primary medium through which others get to look at american culture. And let me say that for a non-american, the news on Fox/CNN can quickly become highly irritating.

I tends to agree with LAV. I know many Americans who are very nice peoples, as long as you agree with their way of thinking. To them, they are the best, know it all and always think it's better in the states. If you don't agree, better be ready for a heated discussion...

Just think about the name peoples from the USA give to themself: AMERICANS and how they call their country: AMERICA. As far as I know, America is a group of 2 continents, North and South. The North also includes Canada and Mexico on top of the United States of America.

So, In Canada or in Mexico, as much as in Columbia, Peru, Brasil and all, peoples are also Americans! Why do peoples from the USA think of a name who represent them instead of appropriating a name who should represents many? You don't see peoples from Germany saying they are Europeans first? No, they are Germans and then Europeans. I am a "Canadian of America" after all but I can't even call myself "American" even if I live in America because somebody else appropriated the name.

Not all peoples from the USA are arrogant and annoying with their psuedo-superiority, far from this but, this is the perception I got from travelling to Europe and in southern countries. IMHO, from what I've seen, most peoples around the world prefer to meet with Canadians rather than with Americans because of this.

...now that we have the American bashing out of the way for a moment, lets talk about how most yanks feel about our northern friends (click the go arnold link below). While is would be rare to find 1 American in 1000 who could tell you the capitol of Canada, perhaps 1 in 20,000 could tell you its provinces, or even the number of them.

American history books teach that Ontario is where all the pussys ran to in 1776 and today, most Americans view Canada as just another mid-west kind of state like Iowa where nothing really ever happens of any importance.... and in some ways, Canadians themselves, seem to buy in to this with a strange need to insert the maple leaf or "Canada" into so many brands and places.... the McDonalds Logo, Banks, Buildings, "Canada Place" etc… all in what seems to be an ongoing struggle to define yourselves...... perhaps it will be the new rise to socialism (liberals) such as gay marriage, anti-christian, legal marijuana, casinos, and government give aways that have become how American will define Canada.... "oh, look at those funny Canadians… at it again, they are so entertaining, what will they ever do next???"

Having said all this, what do we like about Quebec; everything… these people don’t take any shit from the rest of Canada, they stand up for their rights, their culture and their legacy…. They show none of the fucked up social and business practices one would find west of the border.

The high and mighty Euro arrogance is alive in Canada as well. I have lived over 20 years in Europe about 15 or so in the USA and three in Canada. Not on vacation, no actually lived there.
LV posts is a prime example of Canadian arrogance toward the USA. The "we are so much more sophisticated attitude of Canadians" is the part that really pisses me off. While in truth, the majority of Canadians don't know shit about the USA. Their knowledge of the US is full of missconceptions and missunderstandings.
