For a smart guy, Fauci’s really dumb. He was already a legend in medical circles 30 years ago and shld hv cashed out by heading to the pharma giants, would easily hv made enough to buy his own baseball team or private island to quarantine in.

Instead Fauci stays in public service for decades, turning down promotions and even potentially exposing himself to the Ebola virus. Now he has to take instructions from far less qualified people and get belittled on national tv. At 79 years, he still has to work 20 hours a day & probably sleeps at his office desk. Which is for the best since he’s probably having a hard time at home with his wife & children receiving death threats from crazies who don’t like Fauci’s public health messages. Yet Fauci is unwavering & perseveres even for those crazies.

America’s in bad shape now but we’ll be fine so long as there are dumb people like Fauci sticking their necks out for us.

Don, I resent your statement. There are thousands of Faucis sticking their necks out to take care of people. This is what they went to school for, this is what the job entails, some don’t really care about the $$. There are people who came out of retirement to help out. Please show some F’ing consideration to the work people are doing

Did u even read my entire post? That’s exactly my point.

President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a senior administration official.

O'Brien, who was named to his job last September, is the highest-ranking administration official known to test positive for the coronavirus.

The news came days after the announcement that a Marine assigned to the military unit that flies Marine One tested positive for coronavirus but didn't have direct contact with Trump or his presidential helicopter.

"He has mild symptoms and has been self-isolating and working from a secure location off site," the White House said in a statement Monday, asserting that there was no risk of exposure to the president or the vice president.

Article is interesting and I've seen a few interviews with Andy Slavin on the Sunday morning political shows. The article is covertly political though with it's suggestion to shut everything down with a "90 percent lockdown". That is very political IMHO.

I hope highly accurate (> 90% confidence) rapid tests become available soon for mass usage at reasonable costs (<100C$), especially at airports. If and when they become available, I hope Canada would allow entry to Americans if we test negative at arrival port-of-entry.

How testing at German airports aims to stop coronavirus at the border

COVID-19 cases are rising as many Germans are going abroad for vacation. Health Minister Jens Spahn wants mandatory testing for when they come back. Voluntary testing is already underway, such as at Cologne-Bonn Airport.

"Tests cost 90 euros ($105), but since the weekend they have been made free to anyone returning from a risk area.

"There have been considerably more people coming to get tested now that they're free," Kirner said. How many depends on the number of arriving flights. "Six flights landed in only one night last weekend. So we had to find people to handle that."

Volunteers also pitch in when staffing is stretched thin. They don't ask for a boarding pass to prove they've flown or where they've come from. "So far, we've taken people at their word," Kirner said.

Germany's public health authority, the Robert Koch Institute, counts about 130 countries as coronavirus risk areas. That includes Turkey, Israel, and the US. Within Europe, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, and Ukraine belong to that group.

Travelers from non-risk zones also have to pay themselves. Ute Menke did so, following a five-day trip to northern Italy with her son.

"Grandma is in the hospital right now. We got ourselves tested so my son can visit her again," she said.

Airport testing to slow the spread

Testing at Cologne-Bonn Airport starts in a tent in front of the mobile station. Johanniter staff ask people for their phone numbers, then conduct the tests inside the trailer while wearing protective gear. Some travelers getting tested have arrived not by plane, but by car, having returned from their vacation destinations over land.

Results are available via an app, sometimes within 24 hours. False negatives are possible for those carrying the virus but not yet showing symptoms. Still, airport testing can help slow the spread, Kirner said.

Mandatory testing for people returning from high-risk areas is likely to come into force next week. The Federal Doctors Association has warned a follow-up test would be necessary five days after the initial one to ensure the accuracy of the first result, the association's chief, Ute Teichert, told German media. The U.S. surged past 150,000 COVID-19 fatalities Wednesday as states battle a resurgence of the virus with differing attitudes about how to stop the spread.

The bleak milestone, reported by Johns Hopkins, comes on the heels of the U.S. hitting 4 million confirmed infections July 23. The death toll stood at 150,034 as of 4 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

America’s leaders seem to have become desensitized to all these coronavirus deaths. It’s already 1000+ deaths per day. How much will be enough before we get really serious about the coronavirus response ... 1500 ... 2000 deaths per day, maybe there’s no limit?
