Given the recent thread of "SP right to refuse a client" I thought I would bring this up. I would this very disturbing. I walked into the stripclub tonight and I see two cops frisking a black male as if he was a criminal. So I enter the club and the place was infested with about 20 police officers checking the place out and frisking and checking the identification of every black client in the club. The girls were standing watching all of this I asked some of the various girls in the club and confirmed the cops came in a huge group and were interrogating all the black clients in the club  . Which makes me wonder why the selection to one group of people? Also there were a few Indian clients and they were also interrogated by the cops. I noticed these kind of raids more often and one of the girls confirmed they come in a few times in the week usually in the beginning of the week and it seems the cops are focused on the colored clients. Any thoughts on this? I found this very disturbing enough to ruin my night but to be saved by the lovely Mya she also said she needed some company which is why she sat at my table.

Without knowing the details of the what the police were doing there it's going to be hard to figure out why they only singled out the black clients. It is possible that they had a suspect that they were looking for that was black and was known to be in that bar. If they are reguarly raiding the place and only harassing the black clients that is a different story.

Just play the stereotype game right back at them. Walk in well groomed, wearing a three piece suit and speaking in such a fashion as to indicate that you are well educated. I'd pay real money to see how fast they would be backpedalling when it came to your turn.:)

I witness the same kind of event two saturdays ago at Club Downtown... It was really exagerated from the cops. They were about 20 and they stay for 45min interrogating some black guys playing on the poker machines. It ended up with a big argument between the management and the cops cause there were so disturbing... and it was making others clients really unconfortable.

frisking is illegal unless with a warrent which i doubt they all had warrent for every clients!!!!
if its true the client has a right to refuse....
the only thing the police are allowed to do is ask for a id.

Gang activity.

The police are trying to crack down on gangs that are trying to take over some clubs as places to sell drugs. This is especialy try of the St. Laurent/St. Catherine area as the city is trying to turn it into a theater disctrict. Frisking is not illegal if the police suspects that the person detained is in possesion of a weapon of some sort.
It may also be that the police are trying intimidate the gangs to leave certin clubs alone by showing up once in a while.

Well, all these theories are theories. We really do not know what the cops are looking for. But it is interesting to note that one poster mentioned that they are looking for people selling drugs but the last time I checked both white people and black people sell drugs and the same goes for Pimps. I just found it disturbing how they singled out only black clients. It has been happening on a consistent basis as I come to this club on Mondays relatively often and witnessed a few of these raids. One of the reasons the girls cannot smoke downstairs anymore was the result of these raids. One of the girls told me that the cops never said anything until a few weeks ago about the smoking. Another thing i noted is that at one table there were two guys sitting one black and one white yet they only interrogated the black guy and left his white friend alone  ? Anyhow right now anything we say is speculation. I am not one to call out "Racist" without having all the facts. Only thing what I saw last night did not sit well with me. And yes I am well dressed and the cops always ignore me. Never once a cop asked me any questions.

Last trip about 20 cops came into Kingdom as I was ready to pay my cover. I just walked the other way out. A couple smiled at me. I've never seen this in Ontario, outside of Tim Hortons. Maybe there's been some complaints about strip clubs, extras or something? It must be cutting into business. I'm going to be in town next month, hopefully business is as usual.

Indeed, you never said all black guys are pimps ;) . The only reason I brought this up as I have been seeing these kinds of raids for the past couple of months. It is becoming more frequent but last night was more worse then usual and did not seem like a standard visit as they were frisking this black guy right at the entrance as if he was a criminal. Maybe he was guilty? I do not know. But it also seems the city is trying to shut this club down in an effort to what the city calls cleaning the former red light district.

I agree, if it's happening frequently and just to black guys then it's bullshit. There are plenty of white or asian or indian or any other race guys they could be looking for as well. The world is full of scum and it has nothing to do with race. Let's hope there is a legit reason this is happening and if not well, change is in order because I'm sure our police officers have more important issues to handle than guilty of not being white.

Just to clarify I never stated that all pimps were black. like I said every color has it's good and bad.

True say. I go to Toronto about twice a month and frequent the stripclubs there and have yet to see raids like the ones I have seen in Montreal.

Do you realy want Montreal to turn into Toronto?

If the cops were there to chase out the gangs or if they were there on a tip that someone they were looking for was at that place, then I am all for what they are doing. Better to stamp out any gang activities before we turn into the GTA and have almost daily drive by shootings.

The gangbangers in TO have bigger guns than the cops do, so the cops prefer not to run the risk.

Pressure Tactics

From the posts to date it does not seem to be the drug or morality squads. Nor was it a high risk operation.

Monday nights are usually slow. Seems like it was some union pressure tactics combined with makig a statement to certain groups.

20 cops...in a strip club....from a white man or black man point of view...

Im paying tax for 20 fk cops to see if gangmenbers or drug dealer or any reason goes to a G..Damm strip club...Lets be seriouse here !!!

I dont remenber the last time were you have 100 gang menber in 1 single club??? If Any body sale drugs ...would it be 1 single individue not 10 or 15..

Racist or not i found it a little hard that so many policeman care about our security so much to send 20 law enforecemenet in a single club while searching me as a client(searching for intimation privacy) an paying cient to see all this while im searching for some sensuel feelling..hahaha !

Local Hiigh Crime Community need those law enforcement...

PS: Why would they have so much security camera when enter the club and inside the cubical 'lobby' if 20 not 2 or 5 but 20 law enforcement would walk in every begin of the wk for the past month now...Intimidation for other paying legit clientels....Plus its A form of violation of privacy plus arrasement .Im a client ,and Im seen 20 cops walking in every wk or every club i visite....! Is it any better discretion availlable....come on...hhahahaha

What does it matter? Yes it's annoying, yes they take lots of place but I like to know that cops are actually working at maybe keeping some people safe, maybe stopping some pimps from recruiting more girls, maybe stopping some gang to take over a club, maybe stopping intimidation of club owners... I like to think that they might be trying to find a criminal.

If you are not happy, call the police station from the area and make a complaint. If they over used their power then procedures will be taken against the fawlty cops. If they did their jobs for a good reason then they will do it again if required. If you feel your rights are not being respected then stop hanging in places where you are likely to cross path with criminal activities such as drugs and prostitution : strip clubs, massage parlors, in call locations, night clubs...

Highlighting Racism.................

A lot of speculation here. It may be true that the police were simply shaking the sheets to see what comes up. It may be true that they were stereotyping by choosing the black clients. It may be true that they had some sort of tip and the profiling fit the tip. Bottom line is that no one knows for sure. I will be the first to defend against racism. Unfortunately we just don't know here. What we do know with this thread is that a scenario has been provided to suggest racism on the part of the police. There is an atmosphere of suspicion. It would have been a lot better if someone had talked to a police officer to inquire, perhaps a white friend at the same table as his black friend. Perhaps somebody could have asked the club owner (You can bet the rent money that the owner would have asked the police for a detail or two.) But nothing has come to light here so far. At this point all we have is the fact that police have entered a club en masse and checked out black clients. What this thread has accomplished is to stir up the members of merb and highlight the issue of racism. In itself that may not be a bad thing. I just hate to see this take place under what may be a completely different scenario from what we believe to be true. I do recall another thread here where this scenario developed and was exposed as a fraud. It would be a shame if different circumstances came to light from what we believe to be true. We already got caught once like that. Shame if it were to happen again.

but if they are looking for 1 or 2 man (here..a black guy)...but who is used to be with his gang (10-15 people)...yeah its better for them to come a lot..than one or two come in the club to arrest 1 or 2 man..and the black men are finally 12 there...well, i would say:"have fun!" (to the cops...well, i wouldnt say it..but think it)

I will say like the doorman at my last club already told me when i complained about this kind of "regular" visit:"i prefer cops empty my bar...than a streetgang!"

Im not saying you wrong...but you miss out my point. Its been the last couple months that all this is going on. Strip Clubs have camera all over the place and entrance some event have metal detectors... Now is it a more QUITE an DISCRET wayz that all this routine could have be done?Yes I belive very much..

The H'A are always in laval clubs ... i never seen 20 law enforcement enter.... Or invade clients privacy for what ever is the reason:mad: ...But 1 or 2 patrol car are post in the area ...not 5 or 20 like I seen for the last couple month or witnesses have spoke of it here...

 can you please name the number of time Any Gang Menbers Actuelle gun fight in a strip club  beside last years bettwen the H'S and black at the solide gold? Im saying security shouldnt be practice but please people in a private matter !
