Hotel booked and getting tickets. If you attend and find it boring, surprised. The energy level is high, ladies are sexy and the long weekend is full of parties and speed. Can't wait for the race. Look forward to it every year.

Look behind you.
We always go and are entertained. Found that NASCAR had a more lively group attending that like to enjoy themselves more ( rednecks ), too bad it was cancelled.

The only complaint I have about the F1 race in Montreal is you are forced to buy a seat to have any hope of seeing anything

Years ago, General admission was the way to go..not anymore

Compared to Austin Texas, where you could see everything with general admission

Look behind you.
I agree smuler, not a good thing and the cheapest seats run $250 for the weekend, for entertainment value NASCAR was more fun and they put up less bleachers ( in the corner I liked to sit anyways )

Been to Montreal many many times in my lifetime but never been up for Grand Prix

In my mind, I picture Downtown Montreal = Bourbon Street New Orleans........bars filled to capacity......impossible to get a drink.......everything over priced......people vomiting in the streets from intoxications......long ines for strip clubs......and hobbying impossible

I am sure there is great eye candy in the streets but everything else seems like a hassle/tourist trap if true

Don't get me wrong, I like to drink and I do follow Vettel One.....I mean F1......

But I have been thinking about doing it for the better part of a decade now......trying to figure out if 2014 is the year

Am i far off?

Rusty, you are spot on!!!!

Also traffic nightmare downtown during the evenings.

If you are not coming up with race tickets then it's best to come up during none F1 event in the summer as to avoid all that was mentionned.

Rusty,,since you were the "Grand Orange" for my Metsies :hail: for a couple years , I will tell you what I think

Get a hotel locked in that you can cancel, then you can decide if you're coming without pressure

Back in the day, General admission was the way to go..now, you can't see a thing without a seat in the stands.

If you have some cash, and like F1- treat yourself..
The NYC GP is cancelled, and Austin is in November, and is certainly nothing like Montreal ( different in their own ways...)

OK- now for adult fun...

Strip clubs will be packed for sure downtown

Don't think that girls will be hard to book..you just gotta ' step in shit " sometimes

I saw Marie Eve Asservissante ( legend at the time ) two nights in a row before she retired..It was a Friday and Saturday night..first booking

The downtown nighttime F1 carnival that is Montreal must be experienced at least once to understand what this annual event brings to the city...

Rule changes will hopefully bring parity this year as it was 2 years ago in F1

The Metro makes it a breeze to get to the race

So many beautiful women, you will get whiplash

I have been to other motor sports events and from a viewing experience you are always better watching from home (impossible to keep track of pit strategies and problems that cars are having live)

"Get a hotel locked in that you can cancel, then you can decide if you're coming without pressure" good idea thanks

Look behind you.
With the huge screens most of the action is available to see and sitting at turn 1,2 & 3 ( Grandstand 12 ) live is great, too bad for the long walk. The Budweiser stage is entertaining :)

Planning on going in 2 weeks

I could not find the thread but I recall reading on here that getting back to Downtown after the race in a nightmare on the Metro

True? Any tips?

I also recall reading the bathroom situation is pretty awful

Rusty. I will answer you properly tomorrow

Do you have general admission or seats ?
If seats, where are they ?
Are you there Friday-Sunday, or only Sunday ?

Are you staying downtown that weekend ?

I too have booked for this year's Grand Prix (Qualifying & Race, General Admission) and I am new to Montreal. Please share any tip on the travel to/from etc, that may be useful.

Ok Rusty..over the years, I have been to the race 6 times

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circu...le_Notre-Dame_(Circuit_Gilles_Villeneuve).svg

i see that you have invested in the whole weekend seat package at the hairpin ( Great seats )

Things I have learned over the years .. ( Forgive me, as I assume that this is your first time to the race )

Friday is a great day to walk the whole course (as this day is Free Practice ) Buy your souveniers, get some pictures
Saturday is Qualifying, do not miss this

Sunday- race day..Get there early

The metro is the only way in and out, and it is certainly a nightmare getting off the Island..I stayed in Longueuil, so I was going against traffic leaving the Circuit
Bathrooms, as at any major event, can get overrun with use

I know you spent a lot of money on the tickets, but if I were you I would be on the move towards the metro with at least 10 laps left in the race . trust me, make sure you already went to the bathroom, and get moving
Every minute that goes by, is HUNDREDS of people stampeding towards the Metro

Get back downtown early, as I'm sure that the race will be re-broadcast that night
I waited until the end of the race years ago..it took me 3 hours to get off the Island

Good luck..let us know how it turns out

Best Regards

Look behind you.
I always drive and park in the La Ronde lot close to the race entrance ( only a 10 min walk ). Getting out is not too bad since it is a short distance to the bridge ( 30 - 45 min ).
NOTE TO ALL: YOU CAN BRING IN YOUR OWN BEER... Make sure it is cans and not bottles, every year we bring in 18 each ( we give a few away to thirsty people we meet ). Why pay $6.50 a beer when a 24 cost you $28 at the dep.

I never knew that about the beer Sol :high5:

I checked the official website :

Coolers are allowed on-site, but certain restrictions apply. You may bring your cooler to your grandstand, as long as you’re able to slide it under your seat.
Maximum cooler size:

Height: 22.8 cm (9 in)
Length: 45.7 cm (18 in)
Depth: 25.4 cm (10 in)

For veterans like smuler....

assuming I want to stay to the end of race (which definitely I do) but also avoid the Drapeau Metro disaster (which I also do)....

do some people walk the 3KM on Dupuy back towards downtown to find a taxi? or is the whole island total gridlock?

also I know it's a long term forecast but 50% chance for race day right now

If I remember correctly ( and I hope I'm wrong ),both the Victoria and Jacques Cartier bridge are closed to all pedestrian traffic

I think they are just for permit vehicles ( police/ fire / vendors)

Every year that I have gone , Friday starts out cool, and by Sunday it is Hazy/ Hot /Humid
