Hotwire Hotel Question

I realize there's another "Hotel Recommendations" Thread going on, but wanted to start a fresh one for this Hotwire question.

For people familiar with Hotwire, would anyone know which hotel in Montreal this would be according to their amenities listed. It's a 3* for $83/night from the dates 10/17- 10/19

S-Suite
B-Boutique
Restaurant
Fitness Center
Pool
Kitchenette
Business Center
Laundry Facilities

They also have a 4* listed for $88/night with the following amenities that I'd like to know about. I think it's either the LeCentre Sheraton or the Hilton, but not sure which one.

Hey Special K,

Not sure of the first one, however the second one looks like one that I reserved last winter with the same description and price. I ended up with the Best Western Ville Marie, across from the Omni. Was not as pleased with that one as I have been with others. Found it to be small rooms and in needs of updating. But great location. Found Hotwire to be better in the winter months when I was able to get the Wyndham for $40 per night and the Holiday Inn Select for $35. By the way, the Wyndham is the one on Hotwire with the Thumbs Up sign. I have found Priceline to be a little better during the summer. It appears that the acceptable bid on Priceline 4 stars on 10/11-10/13 is $85 for the Bonaventure. Was just confirmed for that last week. Tried several bids for less with no results. Was getting the Omni and Sofitel all summer on Priceline for $70. Hard to beat having a room across the hall from Angelina Jolie for $70. Happy hunting and maybe see you there sometime.

Thanks for the info NH. I also believe that the 4* could be the Omni on Hotwire too.

Yes, I met her briefly but just the thought of another chance had me watching the hallway. She was keeping to herself most of the time. Very dressed down with no make up. Going for the incognito look but hard to hide those features, if you know what I mean. She was at the Omni and i had the same room 3 times while she was there. Not sure if she is still there.

Special K, I posted on the hotel board that I got the Novotel for $58 a night on hotwire and it was listed as a 3.5 star hotel. Good luck on finding a hotel and I think the Holiday Inn-Centreville is a 3 star on hotwire.

I just booked the Sheraton downtown on Hotwire. Don't remember the price right now, but very reasonable. It was the 4 star hotel.

You booked the Sheraton for the same dates 10/17-10/19 as the 4*? If so I believe it was listed as $88/night which is pretty reasonable. Let me know. Thanks.

Also thanks FutureCanadian. The Novotel is a pretty nice hotel in a fantastic location and well worth the price of $58!!

I'm beginning to favor Priceline over Hotwire. In the past, it was a lot easier to predict the hotels on Hotwire esp. with the 3.5 star consistently being the Wyndham, now its either the Novotel or the Wyndham. As for the 4* category, it can either be the Sheraton, Hilton or Omni when previously, the Omni came up pretty often. With Priceline, the biddingfortravel website really help you to zoom in on which hotel will come up plus Hotwire rates are usually higher and incorporate higher fees. BTW, is it my imagination or have rates on both Priceline and Hotwire gone up since the Renaissance du Parc got converted to a student dorm?

4* = Hilton Bonaventure (and others)

Hotwire vs Priceline

A 4 star hotel on Hotwire is usually a 3 star on Priceline. The rates are higher on Hotwire as compared to Priceline's, but you have a better control of the hotels you'll be able to get, if you do your homework properly.

From what i heard, Sofitel isn't available on Hotwire anymore. However, the Sheraton Center is, which is now impossible to get through Priceline.

The Sheraton Center is in the 4 star range, along with the Omni and the Hilton. It's usually obtainable for 71 US, as the Omni usually is.

Might be me, but i noticed that the '3' star hotels on Priceline are preferred (price-wise/quality-wise) than the '4' stars.

Seems more hotels are now using Hotwire to book their rooms which is making it harder to figure what you'll get.

Never had heard of the Omni coming up on Hotwire, but they show up in the vacation or package product. Shearton seems to have abandoned Priceline and is now coming up as a 4* along with the Hilton.

InterContinental is now appearing as a 4.5 on Hotwire, whereas before you could safely assume that was the Sofitel.

Novotel now appearing as a 3.5. The Customer Favorite 3.5* has been the Wyndham.

3* I believe has been the HI Select.

In general, it seems that the bargain rates are increasing. On my last two trips, I got rates of $67 for Omni and Sofitel, respectively. Not sure that I'll ever get those rates again.

Hôtel Champ-de-Mars on Berri in Old Montreal

I just booked this hotel on Hotwire. It was the 2.5 stars choice and I thought that would be the Holiday Inn on Viger. Has anybody had any experience with this hotel?

I have checked with my sources and nobody seems to know much about this property. Please let us know how your stay goes.

You are one of many people I know who have been fooled by Hotwire changing their profiles on the hotels at the various star levels. They are very sneaky bastards! Sometimes when you expect the dice to come up snake eyes, and instead you role a 5 and a 3, well that feeling really sucks!

Some of the TripAdvisor reviews make this place sound brutal. Here is one in the link your provided:

"We booked this hotel for one night as we wanted to extend our stay in Montreal for a further day/night - BIG MISTAKE!!!!! It is an old listed building with no elevator which we were told when we were booking but as the town was busy and this was the only place we could get in the old montreal town we were happy to take it. Looks lovely on the outside on the ground level - look up and you will see a very delapalated building with horrible curtains and rotten windows.

Once inside we got our room which was on the top floor - 56 steps - i counted! Our room was at the end of the corridor right beside the air conditioning room. Talk about the noise - it was horrendous. The room could only be described as rough. The walls were bright blue and the ceiling was dark blue giving you the feeling that the room hadnt seen decoration in many years. The floor felt as though you were on a boat as the floor sloped towards the wall. You could feel the gradient when you approached the door! The bed had no headboard and the sheets were dirty - we had to sleep on the sheet.

For one night it was $207.00 incl breakfast but no way was it worth it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who likes to get some sleep at night in a relatively clean room!!! Dont get me wrong - Im not a picky person but even my boyfriend was appalled at the room { and he is more layed back than me} Take my advice - give this hotel a wide berth but visit Old Montreal as it is a beautiful part of the town and extremely pretty at night."

There are four floors and NO elevator. The rooms are small, very small - some only as big a queen bed, with no place to put your luggage. The mattresses have springs popping out of them and the toilets are defective. I had the misfortune of trying out three rooms in this nightmare of a hotel and staying a total of four nights. It completely ruined my trip to Montreal. If you have a choice, ANY CHOICE, do NOT stay at this hotel. Pay more, don’t go - whatever, just don’t stay at this hotel you’ll regret it."

Priceline Equivalent

It bugs me no end that in order to use Priceline to get deals on hotels in Montreal you have to be living in the US - the address you enter has to be a US address. I live in Canada. Is there a Canadian equivalent to Priceline, or is Hotwire available to Canadians?

there was some very good advice in another post. As a Canuck you can use priceline but only with a Mastercard and enter CA (California) for Province and a zip code of 99999. It works.

This is false information. Canadians can use Priceline. This misinformation keeps getting re-posted again and again and it simply is not true. Doc Holliday is a Canadian, he has been using Priceline for many years. He and many others.

Thank you Beav. There is a note from an administrator that there have been reports that non-US residents cannot use Visa or MC; they can only use Amex....can anyone confirm or refute this?

Check AAA

I've got some pretty good rates from AAA. The Clarion on de Maisoneuve is where we stay when I'm in town on the Company nickel and probably where I'll stay on my hobby trip in May or June. I've always found that after you get the AAA or Priceline rate, you can call the hotel directly and sometimes get a good deal. The Clarion is an all suite hotel and some are quite large complete with a kitchen and sitting area. Price isn't too bad as I recall.
