I'm all for Quebec tuition hikes

Hey the way I see it the higher tuition fees the better chance a girl will get into stripping, MP, and SPing to pay for their tuition fees.

So bring on the hikes!

On a serious note all these protest over tuition hikes. I think the hikes would be good in getting ride of these career students who bum around studying in courses and programs that will never be usefull to them in getting a job. It'll free up the school system and resources for the serious student and drive out the not so serious ones to get a job and not bum around school that will not get them anywhere.

I have a cousin who is a career student. She has 2-3 bachelor degrees already and she's going for another. She's married, lives in her parents upper duplex most likely rent free since she obviously does not work. Her degrees are as good for nothing as she is. Pisses me off since I'm ony a few months older than her, married with two kids, and I am not a burden on my retired parents. When will my aunt and uncle stop raising this "child"? I'm for the increase even though it means paying more once my kids start university.

Another approach (which would be politically infeasible) would be to mimic the system of Russia during the Communist era. There not only was tuition free, but students got a salary! Lots of money was saved that way and almost all the students were serious. How? Simple - greatly reduce the number of places in university and send those who failed the entrance exams to the army.

Employers demand junior college and even university degrees now as they can't trust High School diplomas to guarantee literacy and numeracy. For such a system to work here, Secondary School success would have to mean more than avoiding the bottom 15% or so on the Bell Curve.

I see shit coming. The government is doing nothing and soon the students will loose their semester. That is the price the government is willing to pay for the tuition hikes.

Useless degrees. Everyone I talked to majored in some useless field. It doesn't feel right at all. They will all survive for sure somehow, find some loser other half that will pay for them or some simple to do jobs, or live off government or parents. Higher fees in the US still produce generations of people with useless degrees. This whole world is a sham and a gamble.

I just don't understand what the students think to gain by being on strike for a whole semester. Its not as if it puts any real pressure on society like when public transport or nurses go on strike.

I think they should raise fees, but maybe give more scholarships for really good students that are poor.

Anyway, college fees are tax deductible and you can carry these deductions and use them when you start making money.

The student loans and the scholarship will go up for students who need assistance. In Utopia it would be possible to have free education including as many doctorates one can do but in real life, we don't have money anymore and this makes keeping the fees at the current level impossible.

Kids today are raised with the sense of getting everything and getting it now. Kids today are deeper in debts than those 20 years ago and are in debt sooner and paying for education is a very small part of these debts.

Rather than garnering sympathy, they are pissing off anyone who is inconvenienced in any way. Champlain Bridge anyone?

Their actions are also costing money: police presence is not cheap and is paid by tax dollars. More police equals more taxes...or else cutbacks to key services.

The costs will have to be covered somehow...and if fees don't rise, guess what? Right! Higher taxes again! The students have a choice: pay higher fees for the five years (let's say) of your education, or pay higher TAXES for the next FIFTY years of your life (and drag all other taxpayers down with you!). The math should be easy enough even for the students!

Even after the planned 5 years of hikes, Quebec's education fees will STILL be lower than the rest of the country! If these students are the future of Quebec then Quebec can look forward to many decades of selfish me-first braindead whining from its future generations.

We all have to stand up for our rights but this selfish bunch has carried it too far.

The real point of protests, at least the modern one is to bypass democracy with intimidation. There was a rather interesting article on the topic a few years back in the Economist.

Don't like government action, start blocking roads, smashing things and make your "demands".
