you bet  ,

Good job..., well not entirely. How come somebody know to have a mental health issue got his hands on a gun?!?
The gun control system needs some improvement. Three innocent victims and their relatives just paid a terrible price because our politicians don't have the balls to do the right things about it. No system is perfect I know. But really, what kind of normal people need an handgun here?

I can only agree, our governments have tried different law projects, always turned down by conservative parties. I never thought we had such a powerful firearm lobby here until I saw it in action.
Now, in the recent years it is a totally different game for LE. Most hand guns, in the past came from smugglers, who buys them in the USA and get them in through Akwasasne and Kanawake. Now we have local, independant "manufacturers" with high end 3D printers and a big market with the organized crime associations, since these weapons dont have any traceable signs on them that would allow to go back to its origins. Very convenient for the criminals.

All this to say, if you want a gun, you can get one, as long as you have the money.

It's "good job" in terms of the police neutralizing the threat rapidly. It won't bring back the three people who sadly lost their life, but at least, there won't be more.

We live in a country with a very large and porous border with a huge amount of guns in circulation. Stopping the flow won't be easy.

There are thousands of law abiding Canadians that practice sport shooting with handguns.
They are not the ones who commit murders with handguns.

I partly agree witth you. The measures put in place by the Liberal Party are mostly useless concerning firearms.
The 1995 hunting Firearms registry was supposed to save 300 lives/year. It cost 2 billions $.
It was never demonstrated that it saved lives.
Harper government ended that useless registry in 2014 with no subsequent increase in deaths caused by these firearms.
The restrictions and bans made by Trudeau are either unnecessary or most useless.
The ban on assault rifles will cost at least 800 millions $ while they were almost never used in shootings.
Canada is not USA.
His new restrictions on handgun ownership will not attain its target.
The specialists in the domain all say this at least once a week.
The last crazy murderer assembled an UZI like submachine gun from parts ordered and shipped by mail.
He was able to get a large quantity of ammo even without a Firearm License.

It wont, of course, as I said, its probably easier today to buy a handgun. The rifle/hunting arms registry law we're a total failure and waste of money as it was targeting the wrong firearms type in the first place. Stats shows that legally purchased hunting arms are extremely rarely used in crime. I think intensive investigation and much bigger sentences for being i found in possession of an illegal or restricted firearm is the only solution to control fireamrs on the street.
