Look behind you.
The Oilers are still holding it together

It was a tremendous show of force from the Oilers, who are 8-1-2 in their last 11 and came out of a wicked stretch of schedule, facing Calgary, St. Louis and Calgary in four days, with five of six possible points. They moved two points ahead of the Flames with a game in hand.

A buddy of mine asked me yesterday if i thought Auston Matthews will win the Rocket Richard trophy as the player with the most goals in the NHL. I chuckled and said no way, it's going to be Pastrnak. But then my friend pointed out that Auston Matthews is right behind Pastrnak and Ovechkin. Pastrnak has 38 goals, Ovechkin has 37 goals and Matthews 36. So basically it's all up for grabs!

Shark fuck I remember how crazy that rivalry was nordiques/habs... My uncle was thrown in the christmas tree once cause he celebrated a nordique goals a bit too much to the eyes of some of my other uncles and cousins. Crazy time it was ;)

The Avalanche and Redwings rivalry was no joke either... Lemieux viciously wallpapering Draper head first into the boards sparked that love story

Oups..ANDERSEN injured....and PANTHERS scored 3 goals in 7min, vs HUTCHINSON.....ca fait longtemps que les LEAFS auraient du régler ce problème,,,si la blessure à Andersen perdure cela pourrait leur coûter cher....my 2 cents.

You're quite correct but when you don't have a penny left under the cap it's difficult to acquire players. To be fair Hutchison has played extremely well in his past 5 games when he started so maybe everyone is being unfair to him in regards to last night.

The habs have the same problem as the Leafs: no backup goalie. Now Price is out with the flu and they had to call up Kayden Primeau.

The habs are out of the playoffs so it's not as much of a big deal for them. But the Leafs may have to address this issue in a few weeks at the trade deadline.

Goaltending has been an issue for many teams throughout the season. Just look at Nashville where the usually extremely dependent Pekka Rhine has sucked on most nights which led to Peter Laviolette getting fired since the team has struggled winning games.

Two goals for Auston Matthews last night! He's also on fire!

The Leafs lost against the Rangers after another bad performance by Hutchison so after the game they made a trade with the Kings and acquired former first-round pick goalie Jack Campbell & forward Kyle Clifford in exchange for 4th liner Tevor Moore & draft picks.

Auston Matthews leads the league in goals!

Matthews scored again last night to bring up his goal total to 40. He's now leading the league in goals (tied with Ovechkin) which i find astonishing since just a month or two ago i figured David Pastrnak had the Rocket Richard trophy locked up. But both Matthews and Ovechkin have since surpassed Pastrnak who now has 38 goals.

Tonight the Leafs are in Mtl to face Carey Price & the habs, which won't be easy considering the habs have been playing very well lately (especially since acquiring Kovalchuk) and the Leafs fighting the flu bug and their all-star goalie still out with an injury. With the habs having last night off they'll be rested and i predict a habs win tonight!

Pastrnak has increased his goal output each year in the NHL, getting a career high every year culminating in 38 last year in 66 games. This year he has 38 goals in 55 games and will set a new career high in goals for I believe the 8th straight year.

Matthews has emerged as a young Ovechkin and will likely be a battle between the original Ovechkin and new Ovechkin for the goal scoring title.

Pastrnak is a heck of a scorer but he also benefits greatly from having Patrice Bergeron as his centre & Brad Marchand as the other winger. As for Ovechkin he has had the luxury of playing next to Nicklas Backstrom, whom i consider to be one of the elite passers in the game. But Ovechkin's achievements are astonishing considering his age & he still hasn't slowed down. He may very well be the most proficient goal scorer in history!

Interesting that you should mention this as ESPN had a panel discussion on whether Ovechkin was the best goal scorer in NHL history. 2 experts voted for Ovechkin, 1 for Mike Bossy and 1 for Wayne Gretzky.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/28655061/is-alex-ovechkin-nhl-greatest-goal-scorer-ever

Honestly, I would say it is very close between those 3, but I would go with Ovechkin. What makes it Ovechkin in my mind is the incredibly quick snap release on his shot coupled with the power. I had the chance to see Bossy, who has the most goals per game in NHL history, in his prime. He was an amazing scorer and a big reason why the NY Islanders won 4 straight Stanley Cups and made deep Stanley Cup runs 6 or 7 years in a row. Bossy was somewhat more 1 dimensional than Ovechkin and Gretzky and earlier in his career had a reputation as a player who could be stopped with physical play. I remember the Philadelphia Flyers repeatedly gooning him until Clark Gillies put a stop to it.

The most interesting discussion piece is Gretzky. Even in his prime when he was scoring 92 goals, he had amazing goal scorers all around him in Messier, Kurri and Anderson, among others. Had he been stuck on a sorry ass team without offensive talent, he likely would have been asked to score more and distribute less, and he would have maybe had multiple 80/90 goal seasons. Despite this I am still going with Ovechkin over the other 2.

Penguins & Wild make a trade

The Penguins have acquired forward Jason Zucker from the Wild in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk, Calen Addison, and a conditional 2020 first-round draft pick.

Zucker is signed through the 2022.23 season and his contract carries an AAV of $5.5M.

The condition on the 2020 first-round pick is that it can be deferred to 2021 if PIT misses the playoffs this season.

Oh gosh..McDAVID OUT FOR 2-3 WEEKS....very bad news.....

What this means is that Draisatl, who has a narrow 4 point lead over McDavid in the points race, now has a chance for some much needed breathing room. If Leon can pick up around 8-10 point in the next 2 weeks, that will be some good breathing room and perhaps enough to secure his very first Art Ross Trophy, snatching it away from McDavid. Probably not the way Leon wanted to win this trophy, but I don't think he will be giving it back or apologizing for the win.
