So the Rangers and Habs are not making the playoffs, and the playoffs are not going to even happen?

With MLB, NBA, NCAA basketball and NHL all cancelled, what am I supposed to watch on TV now?

Is MLB Network going to suspend programming since they have nothing to discuss now?

Which NHL clubs will pay their part-time workers during shutdown
https://sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/de...g-event-staff-after-suspension-203527695.html
The coronavirus pandemic has affected all avenues of life, with workers in several sectors being asked to work from home, practice social distancing and other measures to prevent the spread out of the outbreak.

The NHL suspended its season on Wednesday, following a meeting with the league’s Board of Governors. As players and team personnel prepare for uncharted territory, arena staff, part-time and hourly workers are immensely worried about how it will affect their ability to make a living.

Here’s how the NHL is handling how they’ll pay workers throughout the suspension of the season.

Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli—who also operate the Honda Center—committed to paying all full-time and part-time employees who were scheduled to work three Ducks games, three Big West basketball tournament games, and two concerts during March, which have since been cancelled, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment announced on Thursday that they were finalizing programs to help their part-time and event staff financially—a group “of close to 4,000 dedicated event personnel.”

The Ducks were the First Team listed in the Article.
I didn’t see Boston & Montreal on the List....I’m sure they are helping.

YES, when any Major Organization shuts down, there’s a huge ripple effect to All People.

Remember these times.....

Bruins make statement regarding Garden workers
https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/03/13/bruins-make-statement-regarding-garden-workers/amp/
With sports arenas going dark across the continent because of the coronavirus, pledges of financial support to full-time and part-time employees who are out of work because of the stoppages from various ownership groups have been pouring in, as well as a couple from athletes themselves.

Owners of NBA and NHL teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards/Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs, to name a few organizations, have announced plans to pay their arena employees at least part of the wages lost during this crisis. Also, Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers have pledged to donate $100,000 for workers in their respective arenas.

Responding to a Herald inquiry about what Delaware North, the parent company that owns the Bruins and TD Garden, was planning to do to assist its workers, Bruins VP of marketing and communications Matt Chmura released a statement:
“Delaware North has operations in over 50 sports stadiums, ballparks and arenas throughout the world,” said Chmura in the statement. “The hardworking associates at each location, including TD Garden, are facing great challenges due to the impact of COVID-19 on the sports industry. Delaware North at its core is a family company and our top priority is to provide our associates, and their families, with the assurances they deserve during this difficult time. We are actively exploring support options and will have further information in the coming days.”.....

We are actively exploring support options and will have further information in the coming days.”

The Clock is ticking for these People....LETS GO!

The Montreal Canadiens and Geoff Molson should pay their staff
https://awinninghabit.com/2020/03/1...geoff-molson-find-way-pay-staff-covid-19/amp/
COVID-19 has left NHL employees without work, but NHL teams have found ways to ensure their staff is paid, the Montreal Canadiens should do the same.

It’s been two days since the NHL made the decision to pause the 2019-20 season. If things were normal, the Montreal Canadiens would’ve taken on the Buffalo Sabres while the rest of the league would be preparing for another bout of Hockey Night in Canada. However, that is the reality we live in, with the NHL being shut down via COVID-19.

Besides not having hockey to watch, another downside of the pause is the countless amount of NHL staff who are without work. Practice facilities aren’t being used, and training staff are being sent home in the wake of the authorized self-quarantine.

NHL players are still being paid as it was announced yesterday that they would receive three paychecks for March 13th, March 30th and April 15th. But those same staff members are getting polarizing answers to those questions around the league.

As it stands, only 12 NHL teams owners have made it clear that they will pay their staff, at the very least, until the end of March: The Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Washington Capitals.

The Panthers stepping up to the plate was a bit bittersweet as it took the initiative of Sergei Bobrovsky to get things going. The two-time Vezina winner pledged to donate $100,000 such that Panthers staff could get paid, and owner Vincent Viola stepped to the plate afterwards.....

What is disappointing has been the lack of response from the Montreal Canadiens ownership group. A report came out in December of 2019, listing the Habs as the third most valuable team behind the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs at $1.34 billion.

Geoff Molson is losing the PR battle, but on a personal note, he’s not doing the right thing. I understand that there are likely hurdles that have to be approved. As Eric Engels pointed out in a tweet, we must have a lot of hours stacked up to qualify for unemployment benefits. But it’s times like these where those things need to be turned aside for the greater good.

The Montreal Canadiens provide one of if not the best home game experiences in the NHL. This is accomplished off the backs of these employees who work their hardest to ensure it. And who knows, perhaps the organization is working on those details as we speak, which would be incredible.

Some have motioned for the players to step up and do something. Carey Price, Shea Weber, and Jonathan Drouin carry the highest cap hits on the Habs at $10.5 million, $7.85 million, and $5.5 million, respectively, but it shouldn’t fall on the hands of the players to do that. Would it look great? Definitely! Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that it should be on the shoulders of Molson to get this initiative started.....

Very Very Sad....Some Millionaires NOT doing the Right Thing...WTF

The Habs franchise is one of the richest in the league so they could certainly afford it
The millionaire players will survive this pretty much stress free , but the white collar workers and their families in all the sport leagues that have been shut down (that’s a lot of jobless people) will be greatly affected . A few owners and even players ( NBA , NHL) are contributing/helping out so let’s see if Mr. Molson will step up to the plate

* keep up the great posts Robert 21

P.s haven’t posted in a hockey thread since the Rocket/Pocket “blunder” , Zigme knows what I’m talking about LOL
Anyways just want to say that it really sucks not having any sports to watch and I know that the leagues did the
right thing it’s just that I would have preferred if they kept it going w/o the fans and this way they could have kept a number of those stadium staff jobs , but I understand that they did not want to expose the players to the virus with all that traveling that’s required

These are the NHL owners who have not agreed to pay arena staff for suspended events
https://russianmachineneverbreaks.c...reed-to-pay-arena-staff-for-suspended-events/
All NHL players are being paid for the games they aren’t playing in because of the league suspension due to COVID-19.

In contrast, arena staff who would also have been working those events will not be getting another paycheck any time soon.
Many NHL teams have committed to paying their employees (some, through the end of March; others, until events resume as normal). In some cases, the owners of the teams pledged to do so only after individual players stepped up on their own accord, like the Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky.

Team owners have enough money to pay the arena staff during the suspended season.
These are the team owners who are choosing to leave their most vulnerable employees without a paycheck on virtually no notice.

Every name in bold is a billionaire.

The Naughty List
Arizona Coyotes – Alex Meruelo
Boston Bruins – Jeremy Jacobs
Buffalo Sabres – Terrence Pegula
Calgary Flames – N. Murray Edwards
Carolina Hurricanes – Tom Dundon
Columbus Blue Jackets – John P. McConnell
Minnesota Wild – Craig Leipold
Montreal Canadiens – Geoff Molson
New York Islanders – Scott D. Malkin (approx. $200 million)
Ottawa Senators – Eugene Melnyk
St. Louis Blues – Tom Stillman (net worth unknown)
Vancouver Canucks – Francesco Aquilini
Vegas Golden Knights – Bill Foley (approx. $500 million)
Winnipeg Jets – Mark Chipman (approx. $500 million) and David Thomson (*$36 billion*)

You are BILLIONAIRES and You can’t (or won’t) Pay Your Arena Employees....Really!

I wonder how long it'll take the NHL to announce that the 2019-20 season is cancelled. I can't see the season resuming next fall. Plus you'll need some type of mini training camp to get the players back into playing/competitive shape. If i'm a betting man there's no doubt this season is over & the next one is already in jeopardy!

The NHL is done this year. The only professional sport we will see any time soon is MLB and it will be played in empty stadiums in the Phoenix, Arizona area, but with the usual extensive TV package and MLB.com and MLB Network TV packages. We will probably see some pro golf, also in spectatorless venues.

I heard a report on WFAN this week that the Boston Bruins would be awarded the Stanley Cup based on their points championship. Congratulations to Boston and Dave Pastrnak on a tremendous season. They had 100 points, 8 more than any Eastern Conference team. Because the victor should get all the spoils, I would give Pastrnak MVP and Bruce Cassidy NHL Coach of the Year, for the jobs they did. They were Stanley Cup runner ups the year before, so everyone should have seen this coming, especially with Pastrnak improving his stats each year he has been in the league in a steady and consistent fashion, which went unnoticed by many.

The NHL isn't done yet. Nor is the NBA. And awarding the Stanley Cup to the Bruins won't happen unless there are playoffs & the Bruins end up winning the finals, which could be possible considering they're a very solidly built & well coached team.

You can't award a championship trophy to a team just because it currently leads the league in points when it plays an unbalanced schedule. An unbalanced schedule is somewhat of a mirage since some teams get to play weaker teams than others or play teams they are better matched up against. For example early in the season you often hear experts say something like "team A has a great schedule compared to team B.....team A will likely breeze into the playoffs due to its schedule but team B will have a harder time to reach the playoffs"......just like the NFL. MLB & the NBA have more balanced, fairer schedules than the NHL or the NFL.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the NHL play in empty arenas. For a team like the Florida Panthers what would be the difference? They play in a near-empty arena year round! So if Florida can do it on a regular basis why can't the other teams? It could be done in the NBA. Just have someone in the arena play with the sound & make it seem like it's full of people. It could happen in the NFL. Same thing with MLB who has seen it's share of empty stadiums in the past. Heck they even started playing the professional baseball season in Taiwan in empty stadiums and the games are a hit on tv!
