I think it is complete bullshit propaganda that they did not come to do sex work.

Sex workers are much better at providing commercial sex transactions than non-sex workers. So they are the ones that get hired to do the work.

I think they knew what they were coming over for, and in fact jumped at the opportunity. They likely did sex work overseas in much worse conditions.

It is certainly not difficult to find an abundance of sex workers in Asia, and there living conditions are quite Spartan.

China and Asia are very male-oriented cultures with very libertine views towards sex. If you travel through China and Southeast Asia, you will see barbershops everywhere with many local girls. These girls will trim your hair, massage your back and give you a hand job or a blowjob for little money. Many times the girls sleep in back. They're in every town and city. The Chinese make sure they are not near cultural landmarks frequented by visitors.

A relatively more upscale version are KTV establishments where young, pretty girls are required to sing karaoke and drink with Asian men. The girls aren't required to go home with male guests, but often do. Again, many times they are living in a crowded living space on the premises. The more upscale KTV joints are in affluent cities and have the most beautiful girls. Smaller cities and towns will have a more simple version, but still will have a dozen or two cute, young girls.

In fact there are so many young girls available for hire in China, a woman in her late 20s and 30s doesn't have a lot of opportunity to make money in sex work. Thus the North American sex market can not only offer an Asian sex worker more money, it can extend her career by several years.

This is an area where many of us on this board have far more first-hand observations than some SJW reporter simply fed information from the police.

Now why would you force, extort or trick a woman to come to the U.S. and do something she doesn't want to do when there are literally tens of thousands that would volunteer?

I remember a Korean girl I met at the Hobby Shop in Vegas. I was helping her with her pronunciation of English words and lay in bed naked talking. She said that she was a student in Korea and she was here on some sort of semester break. She would work for a short period of time and then go back to Korea and return to school. She knew exactly why she was there. I don't know if this is the exception or the rule. I'm sure that there are some gotchas (maybe not) but I met girls from Brazil touring Europe and they knew damn well that it was for sex work. did they get gouged and ripped off from within? Were they mislead to a degree about how much they would make? Maybe so but they knew damn well they were there for sex work.

Funny thing we used to march and sing:

My recruiter promised me
He'ed put me in photography
How it happened, I can't see
Now I'm in the infantry

Thank you for bringing South Park up. We should never discuss a political topic without first watching it satirized on South Park.

You just reminded me of something. (...back to the Everything That's Wrong With Society thread.)

the term human trafficking is applied so liberally that i have no idea what it means. to listen to the advocates, our neighborhoods are crawling with human traffickers and yet.... no one is ever convicted of this crime. i have been to a lot of asian massage parlors in the us and i never felt that the masseuse was being coerced to perform sex acts. they all seemed quite happy to perform as long as the money was right. in fact, many are quite skilled and obviously have been doing this for a long time- i can tell you my last handjob was not performed by a bookkeeper.

Yep Gll, there are literally millions of trafficked sex workers coming out of the woodwork. Politicians can only fix problems that don't really exist in the first place or are grossly exaggerated and difficult to measure. They want to save us from the boogieman. That is why sex trafficking and global warming are the darlings.

If I lost my job tomorrow and if I were dishonest and I wanted to try politics these are two of the things I would try to scare my constituents with. This and those dangerous chemicals like Dihydrogen Monoxide. That stuff can kill you. I would seriously regulate this dangerous chemical to protect my constituents.

That's so true. Exaggerate the problem then show everyone you're making progress fixing it.

By the way, you can overdose on Dihydrogen Monoxide if you take a massive amount all at once. I like taking it in rock form with Coke.

I don't want to sound like the Surgeon General but mixing Coke and rock form Dihydrogen Monoxide is a recipe for disaster!

The two ladies who serviced Kraft were in fact much older than average for sex workers.

They don’t fit the stereotype of the young, coerced, trafficked sex worker.

It's already been reported that the two that took care of Kraft do not appear to be trafficked. Aside from the embarrassment, that's early good news for him. Obviously, the presence of those two doesn't preclude the possibility that some women at the spa were trafficked. I suppose the wise thing is to let any facts that will emerge actually emerge before rendering judgment.

Old white guys receiving hand jobs and blow jobs from middle-aged Asian women just seems to me to be one of the benefits of Blobalization.

It only takes one trafficked lady in the establishment to justify a raid.

It takes only one lie about trafficking for an ambitious politician to justify a raid.

As has been pointed out, there are no charges of trafficking in this case. Even if the cops and the prosecutors eventually gin up a trafficking case, I predict that the case will fall apart in court or even before it gets to court.

As Hungry has pointed out, the process is the punishment.

You're correct. When the huge escort bust happened in Atlanta, they put the photo of each john and escort on the local news-- a truly despicable move. Once upon a time, the process was the major tool the authorities had. I can definitely see why a regular john with less resources would fold against such a charge, even without video evidence. But when authorities plant video cameras at locations and stick to their guns against a very wealthy defendant, the stakes have been raised. The heart of the matter is moralizing government. Trafficking, if applicable in this Orchid Spa case, would likely be far easier to root out if sex workers had legal protection.

Publicizing the average John as an offender will deter 5,000 would be offenders. Publicizing Kraft will deter 50,000,000 would be offenders.

Patron, that was what I was saying earlier, and tried to get across linking to Agustin. The trafficking is for workers in general, and making it about sex is just a way to sensationalize it.

As for the intrigue about Yang being seen with Trump, I'm sure you've seen that she was selling access to the president and promising to help facilitate investor's visas. (The EB-5 where if you invest in a big enough project, you can jump the line and get a visa with permanent residency.)

The conspiracy theory du jour is that they weren't actually scoping out a sex massage parlor, but were scoping out Trump associates for blackmail material. (No, it doesn't seem likely, but the internet is full of people who love creating conspiracy theories. :) )

Un complot?
Est-ce possible?

".....the internet is full of people who love creating conspiracy theories." Valcazar, that's rich coming from you. The only thing these conspiracists are missing is an ex-MI6 agent and Adam Schiff to support their delusional claims.

I suppose the last has something to do with Russia? (I'm not sure what version you think is a conspiracy theory, so I'll wait to see if you pick one. )

As far as this massage parlor thing, I don't think the whole sting was an anti-trump conspiracy, in case you were wondering. (Nor do I think that Yang was working a blackmail scheme where part of her access was offering sex to the high rollers in Trump's orbit so that she could blackmail them for better access for her Chinese clients.)

It certainly looks like they have a very strong case against Kraft. I will be surprised if he accepts this deal.
