Garcon!

The guy who treated me just told me that it set him back $150/person.

Chef,

Sounded like a truly scrumptious meal, but that is getting out of my price range. It was certainly a nice treat for you!

You should have done a search; I posted on this place before.

Do NOT miss the "cromesqui" appetizer - hot, liquid foie gras; $3 a pop. The tomato tart is very nice. Don't miss the "Lapin Royale" if they have it - rabbit stuffed with foie gras, for two, but if you have it, take it easy on the appetizers as it's large. Don't go for the duck confit - I'm still looking for a place in Montreal that does it right.

Thank you Chef

That's a one time thing, spin. It really depends on time of day and the cutter. Bobby is the only "master cutter" at Schwartz's, and they way he cuts it thicker makes it so juicy. My Israelite friends from NYC go nuts when they eat at Schwartz's. It's kind of "uncriticizable" and I will defend it to the death. I suggest going when it is really busy and make sure Bobby cuts the medium for you...
Plus, gotta have a black cherry cott with it. The steaks there are amazing, more delectable to my sophisticated palate than even Queue de Cheval.

Board Stiff was right!

I went back last week and had 2 mediums, they were great! Were juicy and tasty as hell! I guess the other time really was a one time thing, I must have just walked in on an off night.

Last night I was heading up north and stopped at Dic Anns on Pie IX, I've been going here snce I was a little kid and I just love it! 6 cheese burgers later I was the happiest man in Quebec!

Dic Anns rocks!

Interesting menu - duck confit appetizer for $10 - Wow ! I have to try it.

I'm confused though - the menu says "Table d'hote", but lists prices next to the appetizers and main courses. Is this not "A La Carte"? Would one of my French confreres please clarify this for me. Could I have got something as basic as this wrong ?

I hope they don't let the original poster into the kitchen like that: tout nu

Zeste in laval

Hello Again everyone,

This is a great thread....been just catching up with it and the review on garcon made my mouth water...for the life of me i do not know why i have not gone there yet....

But a great restaurant i have been visisting for the past year or so on a regular basis is ZESTE in laval just off labelle on souvenir street.

The owner and chef, a young fellow used to be a sous chef at restaurant nuances at the casino, and he really knows his stuff...

his menu changes every three weeks and it is always soething new and something experimental. His place has been open for only about 18 months and is still a little rough around the edges service wise, but it's ade up for by great great food at suprisingly inexpensive prices. two people with wine will be about 100 to 120 each.

Every time i go...about once a month, the food is always great, the service is getting better, and i always get a seat with or without reservations....have become pals with the owner....so that always helps...and i try to shill for his place as much as possible...:)

I enjoy it...and hope that it's around a while so i can enjoy it for a long time....

this is the web site www.reataurantzeste.com

check it out....

Spin,

Thanks, your link worked.

That veal tenderloin entree sounds really good! And I know Stripper Lover would go for the Chilean Sea bass..........one of his favorites.

I may have to check this place out next trip.

One of my favourites too, but chilled curry sauce ???? Does anyone know if the sauce is spicy hot ? I dislike spicy hot stuff.

I took a wonderful lady out to Restaurant du Vieux Port last night.
http://www.restaurantduvieuxport.com
It is on St. Paul St. in Old Montreal.
They serve very good steak and seafood at reasonable prices, prices that will not break the bank.
I had eaten there a few years ago, and had sat in the main level last time I was there.

We sat upstairs, and the decor is amazing. A very nice rustic charm, with exposed rock walls throughout.

I had the Filet Mignon. Very tender and juicy. My date had the Bavette du Boeuf (flank steak).

We had a very nice conversation througout the evening. After dinner, we strolled through the city for a while, then parted. I had a wonderful time. It was all that I expected from the evening, nothing more, nothing less. She is a very sweet and funny woman, and I was a gentleman throughout.

BTW I took her recommendation, and the same recommendation from the hotel clerk, to try Sho Dan tonight. I was torn between there and Mikasa. I feel like upscale though, so I think I'll try Sho Dan.

I'll report back on Sho Dan after my visit.

ck_nj,

I'm curious how much they charged you for that filet mignon ?
