Give him time, man, he's a good player besides a fighter - we saw that in Pittsburgh, and is by no means not a marginal player
I don't know if you followed any of the Penguins games last year during the playoffs, but Laraque barely saw any ice time. He's an aging role player & no better. He's always been very good at his role, but now that he's reached the age of 30, he's considerably slowed down & he's got no more interest in dropping the gloves. Kind of embarrasing for his kid(s) that their father is mostly known for being a goon whose hockey skills (which were always marginal at best) have since eroded.

The Penguins & most of the other teams in the NHL could have signed him for a roll of tape & a jockstrap & they passed. Mtl bit & rewarded him with a $1.5 million contract. Go figure!

(But i still feel he was a more reasonable signing than throwing away $4 million at an over-the-hill journeyman player like Robert Lang.....and giving away $5.5 million to Roman Hamrlik the previous year.)

he'll still be useful in the playoffs.

George Laraque will be a serious liability if he ever sees ice-time in the playoffs....IF the Habs do indeed make the playoffs. Plus the fact that there's rarely any fighting in the playoffs anyways.

You could make the same argument by picking 4-5 guys on almost every team and come to the same conclusion. The salaries are what they are across the league, that's nothing special to the Habs. And every team has under-achievers.
I'll give you that point. However, most of the hockey talk in this forum usually involves the Habs. But to be honest, i can't think of more than 2 guys per team in the rest of the NHL who have so many underachieving overpaid millionaires. In Toronto? Jason Blake. I can't think of any other. I used to think that Cliff Fletcher way overpaid for Jeff Finger ($4 million per season), but considering Gainey is paying Robert Lang $4 million & Roman Hamrlik $5.5 million, maybe Fletcher's signing was a bargain.

An OK performance, a win and another RDS...

Two more points in the back and once more RDS selected top two stars from the losing team

Why was markov put in the shootout? I dont understand that!!!

Tanguay is 2/3 this year and he's our leading goal scored and tied with koivu

for most pts this year.

As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with the John Kerry of MERB (AKA Doc Flip Flop :D) on this point.

The class level of Montreal fans has gone steadily down for about 10 years now. The way they boo players who left Montreal like Theodore, Souray, and most recently Streit or players who sign elsewhere like Briere and Hossa is always embarrassing. :(

Yeah, like all fans the Montreal ones are often obnoxious. But I prefer to see legitimate criticism of a boneheaded play like O'Byrne's than the annoying bandwagon jumping and infantile na na na na hey hey chants we get when the team is doing well.

Toronto Maple Laffs trade away two former first round picks for a player drafted in the fifth round!

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=257162&lid=sublink07&lpos=headlines_nhl

Steen and Colaiacovo will probably go on to great things – just like Boyes (another Toronto first round pick) and Wellwood (second in goals with Vancouver) , two other players this joke of an organization gave up on. :D

A few years ago Edmonton was offering up Pronger for Kaberle and Steen, but Toronto didn't want to part with Steen!

Toronto Maple Laffs = no history + no present + no future (loser team, loser organization and loser fans)

Right on! These sad sack Leafs have been nothing but an embarrassment to the NHL for decades. If all teams were like them I'd give up on hockey and start watching horseshoes!

Dear Doc I dont know if you remember this one ! It was also very funny !

In 1993 or 94 while playing for your beloved Leafs, Greg Berehowsky did the very same thing when he scored the wining goal in his own net againts Pittsburgh ! :) ! Felix Potvin was stunned !!!

Shit happens !

I do not consider those ones as Canadians fans. Instead of cheering up their players when they are down, they go after them. Commentators of "La Zone" defended them stating that they have the right to criticize players as they pay big money for tickets. That's not criticizing it is "kick them when they're down"

Sorry, i don't remember. You must also be referring to DRAKE Berehowski, not Greg. Are you sure you're not referring to Steve Smith when he scored into his own goal against the Calgary Flames when he played for Edmonton?

By the way, what do Drake Berehowski & Roger Clemens have in common?

Answer: they both spent a great deal of time sampling country singer Mindy McCready's pussy. ;)

(Back in the days when she & Drake were an item, she was a regular at the Nashville Predators games, for whom he played at the time.....)
