Meanwhile, the futility continues in Toronto as the Maple Laffs pick up right where they left off before the break - with another loss! :D

Hey don't be so hard on them - Bruce Springsteen was Born to Run and the Laffs were Born to Lose.

unlike the sad situation in Toronto ... i.e., McCabe, Tucker, Blake, Kubina ...etc ... long term and bloated contracts with no movement clauses for non performing assets - the Laffs will be handcuffed for years under the cap system! :D

Very impressive and completely dominant last night.

I always knew he could score but didn't think he could take and give hits like he does. His intensity and work ethic are exemplary and I find it really refreshing to see a player sign a giant contract and then up his game to an even higher level.

Ovechkin is dynamite. Michael Farber said he's the most exciting player since Bobby Orr and who can disagree? Sadly it's been 30 years since the Habs had an exciting player and 45 since the Leafs had one so the fans in those 2 cities are starved for a glimpse of talent and can only see it when the visiting team has a superstar.

Even though I feel that Orr was the greatest player the game has ever seen, how many Stanley Cups did he win? And while the two most exciting players in the game today may very well be Crosby and Ovechkin, where are their teams in the standings? A team can't become a champion with just one superstar, it takes a supporting cast as well.

Meanwhile, the Habs, without a 'superstar' or an 'exciting player', are working their way to the top of the standings while Pittsburgh and Washington are struggling to make the playoffs.

Habs 1 point out of first place !

A big win for the Red, White & Blue tonight leaving Montreal a point out of first place ! :D

Meanwhile, it was a good night for the Toronto Maple Turds in their pursuit of a top 5 draft pick as the Make-Me-Laffs find themselves on the receiving end of an 8-0 reaming! :D Could the cellar of the eastern conference be far behind?

Toronto can take two big positives from the game: they held the humiliating loss to single digits, which is a major achievement for such a laughably bad team, and they definitely clarified their goaltending picture. Raycroft (the sieve that walks) let in 4 goals on 11 shots. Toskala proved once and for all that he is better because it took a grand total of 15 shots for him to let in 4 goals. What a HOPELESS freakin team!

Don't look now Techman, but Pittsburgh and Washington are both first in their division. :D

If you want to see a real superstar in action, wait until Martan Brodeur and the NJ Devils come to town in a few weeks. Brodeur may not make the game too "exciting" for you, but it will be exciting for me to see him shutout the Habs. ;)

Habs Demolished by the Sens

Tough game in Ottawa for the Habs last night. They were demolished by Ottawa's number one line by a score of 6-1. It could have been worse, but Ottawa took pity on the Habs. Rumour is that Crystobal Huet had to be treated at Ottawa General Hospital for shell-shock & 3rd degree burns. A nurse told me that Huet couldn't even speak a word of french when he showed up at the ER!!

Sadly for young Sergei Kostitsyn, he was taught a boxing lesson by Wade Redden near the end of the game after he had sucker-punched Redden. Welcome to the NHL, Sergei! :D

Habs are now on a losing streak after being soundly beaten by the Leafs on Thursday night & now demolished by the Senators. Will Carey Price be once again sent down to the minors? Will Mike Ryder be sent back to the press box? Where is Saku Koivu? What's happening with Chris Higgins? Will the Habs press the panic button & recall O'Byrne, who'd just been sent down to the minors? Will the Florida sun be any good on Crystobal Huet who is presently recovering from 3rd degree burns received in Ottawa? It should be an interesting week for the overrated Habs.

I remember one game when goalie Clint Malarchuk (of the Sabres i believe) had the same thing happen to him. A pool of blood quickly began to spread all over the ice & other players nearly passed out when it happened. The Sabres' trainer was credited with saving his life at the time it happened.

Doc, you old leopard, I see your spots have changed back again. As for me I'm sticking to my guns: Leafs and Habs both don't have a chance at the Cup (but it's so much easier to sneer at the Leafs because they're nothing but a pathetic joke with a 41 year old punchline). I have to give the Habs credit for playing over their heads this season but the Leafs are crap as usual.

I'm with you on this one Doc. I also immediately thought of Malarchuk...as I guess we always will in dangerous incidents like this.

Zednik stable after surgery

NHL.com said:
Nearly 20 years after the city of Buffalo watched in horror as the skate of St. Louis Blues forward Steve Tuttle collided with the throat of Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk, a similar scenario unfolded at HSBC Arena on Sunday night.

Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik was rushed to a Buffalo hospital after the skate blade of teammate Olli Jokinen struck the side of Zednik’s neck. Blood gushed out as Zednik raced to the Panthers’ bench, where he was immediately attended to by Florida trainer Dave Zenobi.

Zednik is in stable condition and resting comfortably after undergoing surgery at Buffalo General Hospital to close a laceration in his neck.

The game was delayed for more than 15 minutes as the zamboni was needed to help clean the blood from the ice.

In the Malarchuk incident his jugular vein was severed and the blood spurted from his throat in geysers multiple times, like something you would see in a slasher/horror film. In fact, at the time, because "Jason" of the Friday the 13th films wore a goalie's mask, it led some people on TV to make crude jokes about Malarchuk having gotten confused about whether he was in a hockey game or a Friday the 13th sequel.

Somebody got Malarchuk a towel which he clamped over the wound, otherwise he would have bled out and died right there on the ice in front of the fans and a TV audience.

Does anyone know if Zednik's jugular vein was severed or cut?

Seeing at the large amount that was on the ice (and in a trail) after it happened, my guess is that yes indeed, the jugular vein must have been hit or else there's no way he would have bled that much. Kudos to Zednik himself for covering the wound immediately & skating to the bench without wasting any time. It's entirely possible that he remembered the Malarchuk incident as soon as it happened. What's with these incidents happening in Buffalo again?

O'Byrne was just called up and now I doubt that he will be playing. Busted for stealing a woman's purse in a bar??? Now that's screwed up!

Well, what do you expect? O'Byrne only earns $590 000 per year. The guy is practically starving! It's only natural that he'll try to steal someone's purse in order to feed himself. He only took $20 from the purse, so at least give him a little bit of slack! ;)

Seriously though, i'm glad this happened in the US where no one gives a shit about hockey players, unlike Canada (especially Mtl where Habs players are used to people kissing their butts & women throwing themselves at their feet). Both of these players got a dose of reality, how it is in the real world when you are punished if you commit a crime. They'll hopefully learn that there are no double-standards for hockey players in Tampa.
