In the morning after a game, I don't need to check the sports page of the paper to get the results of the Montreal and Toronto games. If Montreal wins, there is a contribution in this thread from gohabsgo and if TO isn't extremely unlucky, Doc Holliday emerges from his corral.

Correction! The Make-Me-Laffs drop to 13th place after last night's 6-1 ass kicking :D At this rate the Maple Losers might end up with a top 5 draft pick, but they'll probably end up trading the pick away for Boston's third string goalie! :D

Well that would still be a step up, since Boston's third string goalie is considerably better than Raycroft (of course so is my grandmother, not to mention the late Ray Charles).

Nothing like starting the new year off with a big Habs win as the Red, White&Blue come up large against Tampa tonight - it was also nice to see Ryder get a couple of goals. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Losers add another one to the "L" column as the Make Beliefs sink back to 13th in the conference :D

The Leafs are giving off a stench so bad that the whole country may soon have to be fumigated but I have to confess that I see great talent in Darcy Tucker: he makes an excellent punching bag.

Don't get too high gohabsgo. It's not exactly like beating the Red Wings - Tampa is one of the lowest teams in the league. Note that I didn't say one of the worst teams in the league because that would be impossible for a team with incredible talents like Lecavalier and St. Louis (and hey Brad Richards ain't exactly shabby either).

For whatever reason though T Bay is drastically underperforming this year. I think the reason is spelled J-O-H-N T-O-R-T-O-R-E-L-L-A. Why is it that good coaches like Claude Julien get dicked around while this loudmouth is allowed to continue NONmotivating his team?

Smart move by Bob in protecting a blue chip asset as he knows Price won’t get much work without a lot of back-to-back games coming up so might as well send him down to get in some ice time. This is not a demotion.

Speaking of blue chip prospects, the Toronto Maple Losers had such a commodity in Tuka Rask, but traded him away for Bostons third stringer (Raycroft). This is just but one of one many cases, and shows how the Make Beliefs are a sorry example of how not to manage a team.

In Bob we trust – GO HABS GO :D

Price and Chipchura might not agree with you on this one. Ya know it's strange but I don't remember Crosby or Ovechkin being sent down to the minors.

In the good ol' days, it would go like this: "What an OT winner by Shut :D What a setup by Lemaire :D What a breakout pass by Lafleur :D

Seeing with which players these greats have been replaced with today, these are very sad times in Habs land. :(

What's your assessment of Bobby trading away Mike Ribeiro for Janne Ninimaa? Ribeiro is playing all-star calibre hockey, leads the team in scoring & was just rewarded recently with a large contract. As for Ninimaa, he's out of the NHL & he hasn't been heard from since he was let go by the Habs. This might one day be considered to be one of the worse trades in Habs history. Maybe Bobby's heart was still in Dallas when he made that trade as Habs GM.

p.s. The jury's still out on Tukka Rask. He might turn out to be a worse goaltender than Raycroft one day. It's too early to tell. The two worse trades in memory that the Leafs made was when they traded away their first pick in an upcoming draft for journeyman Tom Kurvers. That pick turned out to be the first overall & the Devils selected Scott Niedermayer with the pick. The other terrible trade they made was when they traded away Russ Courtnall for John Kordic. There were others previously, such as when the traded Lanny McDonald & Joel Quenneville to the Colorado Rockies for Pat Hickey & Wilf Paiement. Trading Frank Mahovlich to Detroit in the late 60's for a bunch of over-the-hill players (e.g. Norm Ullman among others) was a bad one also. Same thing when they traded Darryl Sittler to Philadelphia for Peter Inacek & a roll of tape. Not hanging on to Bernie Parent & letting him go to the WHA was a mistake. But they did make some great trades over the years, such as when they got Doug Gilmour, Jamie Macoun & Ric Nattress for Gary Leeman & a jock strap. Prying away a very young Mats Sundin from Quebec for an aging & injury-prone Wendel Clark has to be one of the all-time steals in all of hockey.

A well deserved road win for the Habs last night against a good Boston team. :)

Meanwhile, the sad sack Toronto Maple Craps find themselves on the receiving end of a couple of good ass kickings - first a 5-0 pounding by the Ducks then a 5-2 beat down by the Kings, the worst team in the NHL!. ... well not for long , LA will soon relinquish that title to the Make-Me-Laffs! :D

Yes, the Habs had some great players in that era, while racking up Stanley Cups at the same time. What were the Maple Losers doing in that era? Racking up disappointing season after disappointing season - no Stanley Cups and no Stanley Cup final appearances :D

The way the Laughs are playing they have a great chance of finishing first overall this year.

If you count from the bottom up.:p

That's probably what they are aiming at, anyway. They want to have as many chance as possible to draft John Tavares.

Remember how Pittsburgh played in 1983-84?

Remember how Quebec played in 1990?

I believe Tavares is only available to be drafted in the 2009 draft.

That's OK. I don't think the Leafs will have any trouble repeating a last place finish next year.;)

Doc is right John Tavares will only be available in 2009 however Steve Stamkos will be going first in 08 and he's a very good player too.

Today with the draft lottory I doubt any team would be dumb enough to intentionally lose since any of the 5 worst teams can end up with the number one pick but with John Furguson Jr. running things you never know. :p

After he moves Sundin in the coming weeks I have no doubt the Leafs will be in solid contention for the first overall pick in both 2008 & 2009. :D

Yes, Steve Stamkos is a very good player, but he's no John Tavares. It's also been rumoured that JF will be fired within the next few weeks. Presently, he's not allowed to make any trades without permission of upper management (which means the annoying Richard Peddie and/or the meddling Larry Tanenbaum). That big mouth Peddie even told the media a few days ago that JF can't even fire the coach even if he'd want to. As for Sundin moving away, the decision will be left up to him, since he has a no-trade clause in his contract & he's shown no interest in moving. The story i've heard is that he'd accept a trade for the good of the team (and give himself a chance to possibly win a championship) and there'd be a strong possibility he'd return to the team next year....similar to what Keith Tkachuk did last year & Mark Recchi & Doug Weight did a year earlier.

Things suck in Leaf land, but this is what happens when you have a bunch of large corporations (plus a pension fund) running an organization. It rarely works & there is nearly always turmoil.

Congratulations Doc, you're beginning to see the light, unlike most delusional Leaf (and Hab!) fans.

I had to laugh (as usual) while watching a Leaf game a week ago. Toronto was down 2-0 when Sundin scored to make it "only" 2-1. The cameras panned the spectators who of course were erupting in applause, sensing perhaps an imminent Stanley Cup, now that were down "only" 2-1 in this meaningless regular season game. Some idiots were actually wearing Leaf sweaters and proudly pointing to themselves. Well, first of all, morons, YOU didn't score - Mats did. Secondly, what kind of numbskull would wear a Leaf sweater (let alone proudly)?

Sundin later made it 2-2 (yeah, HE can play), but - shock of shocks - Toronto ended up losing (as usual) anyway. Strangely, the fans in Leaf sweaters were no longer pointing to themselves.
