Very interesting quote. Could apply to other sports also.

It applies to all sports and all teams, unfortunately. There will a point were fans will not play the $ that they are now, and wage deflation will happen in professional sports.

For many years, Red Sox fans would say the same thing about Yankees fans. But since 2004, it all changed. Winning a couple of world series totally went to their heads. No wonder, as Boston Globe reporter Bob Ryan said last week, Boston sports teams are now the most hated of all sports, surpassing New York sports teams. He directly referred to the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. He didn't say much about the Celtics since they suck big time.

The Red Sox will likely finish last this season. They're simply a bad team and their 'stars' are gold. Ortiz should retired, same thing with Napoli. Pedroia should be traded since he still has value, or ask for a trade in order to win a championship somewhere else while he still has a chance. They keep overpaying for players, yet still suck year after year. Plus the fact they have the worse manager in baseball.

That would be a few World Series championships, Doc. Three since 2004 and two of which reigning Gold Glove winner Pedey has been apart of.

To explain the most hated of all sports cities simply, "they hate us cause they ain't us!" Deal with it.

I think you actually meant to link to this article by Bob Ryan. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2...onship-city/sVuTdYF6ju8KhW3NCGy3tK/story.html

Now if you'd like to talk about perennial LOSERS just look in your backyard. Between the Leafs, Raptors & The BJ's has there been a shittier sports town since 1993? It's quite literally laughable just how atrocious the cities teams are. Hahahahahaha.

The truth is prior to 1996, the NY Yankees had not won a World Series since 1978, and had not played in the fall classic since 1981. The Yankees won 10 World Series from 1947 to 1962. The NY Yankees only won 2 WS titles in the 1970s, 1977 and 1978. So are the Yankees so hated from the golden era of the late 1940's until the early 1960's?

Everyone knew the Jays would be one of the best hitting teams in the league, but had a lot of question marks at pitching...both starting pitching and the bullpen. It didn't take a genius to figure that one out. But to say Gibbons should be fired is totally wrong. This one's on the Alex Anthopoulos, not Gibbons. Everyone knew they had to beef up the bullpen and acquire a couple of starters prior to the season, and the GM failed on all counts.

But the season is still very young. Lately, the starting pitching has been very good. The bullpen has also been better and the bats have been consistent. They lost something like 10 games by a single run, but i'm confident they'll bounce back and once again dominate.

They're still way better than the Red Sux and the Yankees if you ask me.

Believe it or not, the Toronto Blue Jays have have the highest positive Run differential in the AL East at 20 and they are in last place. Proof that statistics as one self proclaimed expert sometime somewhere said was a predictor of all things. Several 1 run losses can prove costly in the Win and Loss column.

Anyhow, guess which team in the AL East has the worst Run differential ... that was not that hard. Yes, those Boston Red S-x who are trailing the Minnesota Twins, 7-2. Bos-x have a negative 37 run differential after today's loss to the Minnesota Twins, who are doing quite well in the AL Central ahead of the Detroit Tigers by a half game, and behind the Kansas City Royals only 2 games.

Guys,

Manned up? Do I have to mention a team? Only teams mentioned here are the Red Sox and the Yankees. Sometimes, the Blue Jays and sometimes the Mets. You mention another team and there is no further comment about those teams. So why bother?

Why Bother? Sports threads are for F-A-N-S! FANS have teams. Fans by definition care about their team. A lot of guys in these threads stand alone with their teams even though they haven't done well for a long time. If nothing else they MAN-UP and stick by them. Mets, Tigers, Cowboys, Lions, Bills, Red Wings, Rangers and more. Only one person has no team and constantly chases everything negative he can find or think of.

For many years, Red Sox fans would say the same thing about Yankees fans. But since 2004, it all changed. Winning a couple of world series totally went to their heads.

No it hasn't gone to our heads. It's being on the outside looking in that makes anyone think so. It's Boston teams winning 9 Championships and being in 4 more finals since 2001 that brings on those feelings. That was part of it when I was on the outside. But the difference between Red Sox fans and Yankees fans is the latter thinks championships are owed to them every year. You only have to look at their claim on every award and the trophy in March every year. It never ends.

They keep overpaying for players, yet still suck year after year.

As a Toronto fan I do have to bow to your expertise after 48 years of SUCKING. No wonder you have such a big hate for Boston teams when Toronto and Buffalo have been a wasteland of continual broken dreams. It's called ENVY!

Looks like the Yanks Offense woke up today.

Congratulations. A new rule says you can now use extra runs from one game to change the results of the previous 10 out of 11. NOT!!!

Guys ... Boyzzzz ....

There's only one in here that has to answer everybody that makes a comment and really says not much.

My team here is the Yankees. I have lived in the New York Metro area for many years and I pick the Yankees. Is that okay with you Merlot? Or you going to continue to whine about it?

Am I negative about New England fans? Yeah, with good reason. But you know why.

And you want lists, Merlot?

Look who is #1:

Except you have stated clearly several times they aren't your 1st team. You've hinted it was the Mets. But since you need some excuse...go with it.

Merlot, it's none of your fucking bizness who my favorite team or not favorite team (that is the Red Sux for sure). I am a baseball fan. I have been following baseball since my first game when I was 6 or 7. So, don't ask me who my favorite team is again. It's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Red Sox get their jock straps handed to them in 7-2 loss to the Twins on Memorial Day

Another loss by the worse-managed team in baseball. Am i surprised? Definitely not. Just look at the batting averages of today's lineup:

Pedroia .286
Betts .239
Ortiz .221
Ramirez .263
Sandoval .266
Napoli .211
Bogaerts .282
Nava .159
Swihart .193

There you go. No matter how much their pitching sucks, how the hell can you win with such a light-hitting team? Pedroia's best years are behind him. Betts should be in the minors. 'Big Papi' is actually 'Little Papi' and as i've said many times he should have retired last season. Ramirez had a strong start but have since slumped since injuring his shoulder. Sandoval is having an average season but for the money they're paying him, much more was expected. He's an overweight switch-hitter who can't hit from the right side, getting only two measely hits this season from that side of the plate. Mike Napoli is at the tail-end of his career and no longer should be starting. Bogaerts is having a decent season, but considering all the hoopla about him in the past, he's been a disappointment. And then there is Daniel Nava. What the hell is he doing in the bigs? What does he have on Farrell or Cherrington for him to remain on the big league roster? He sucks! And finally, the catcher they had today named Swihart. Never heard of him and he sucks, hitting only .193 for the season.

And the pitching? Let's not go there. They suck as well. Simply awful.

And the manager? I've said it over & over: John Farrell is the worse manager in major league baseball. No one comes close.

And the general manager? All he's showed us is that he loves spending money that is not his. Spending is easy, but he'll lose that privilege one of these days since none of his spending sprees have ever paid off. Is he the worse general manager in the bigs? He's up there. But time will tell.

Yup, their hitting has been bad overall, and worse with men on base as I noted honestly just yesterday. Their pitching was awful in April with tremendous improvement in May. So it still begs the real question. If the Red Sox suck so much why are the statistically better BJs in last place??? Must be something called that Old Toronto Magic. :D

Well, how far back are the Blue Jays from your beloved Red Sox? Try 1 game after tonight, as the Blue Jays are up 5-0 over the Chicago White Sox.

I looked up the definition of the Red Sox Fans and this definition best fit according to readers:

TOP DEFINITION
Red Sox Fans
The Most Immature, Hypocritical, Bias fans in all of baseball.
They care more about the Yankees losing than anything else. They bring up every negative thing they find about other teams yet they do the same thing...there just to dumb to realize it
If you wanna see examples of what i just said type in Red Sox then type in Yankees...isnt it odd that the yankees page has more red sox fan comments than yankee fan comments?? And the Red Sox page has nothing but red sox fans....why arent yankee fans commenting on that page.....they are a little more mature and normal..and it proves my statement about RedSox fans caring more about the yankees losing than anything else..

DD, you've hit the nail on the head!

Heck, even the Boston Globe's Bob Ryan agrees that Red Sox fans have become the most hateable fans in MLB!!!

By the way, i'd like to point out that the Jays' pitching staff has settled down over the past 6-7 games, Drew Hutchison pitched a complete game shutout tonight, and Jose Reyes is back in the lineup after a considerable absence. They should have swept the Angels, the losses against the Mariners were deserved, and i expect them to seep the White Sox.

As for the Red Sox.....AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!!!

Plus the fact they have the worse manager in baseball!!! SIMPLY AWFUL!!!!

Let me make a bold prediction: DAVID ORTIZ WISHES EVERY DAY HE'D BE BACK ON PED'S. He simply isn't the same player when not on the juice!

DD41 knows his baseball, that is for sure.

Ya know BOYZZZ,

Doc really is right about John Farrell, he is horrible! Doc even admitted this when he was with his beloved Jays and nothing has changed, Doc tells it the way it is in regards to Farrell.

As far as Dave ortiz, he has never admitted to using PED's so he must be innocent (enter sarcastic smiley here) Then again he does have roid rage every 15-20 games so methinks he may just be starting back on them. If his power production starts to go up, we will have our answer, otherwise methinks the old man is all but finished if he can't cheat anymore, unlike AROD who is tearing the cover off the ball and is well on his way to comeback player of the year. Good thing Selig is gone so he can't screw AROD out of the award.

Speaking of Selig, good riddance. Now that there is a new Commish, I am hearing Pete Rose will be involved with the All Star game in Cincinnati this July. Hopefully this is a huge step towards Cooperstown for the All Time Great!
