Since posts are selectively deleted in the other hockey threads and since there is a lack of consistency in how rules are interpreted there, let's be clear about this thread.

The subject is HOCKEY...but you are free to express your opinions. That means you are ALLOWED to state negative FACTS or even negative opinions about the Habs, the Wings, or even (Heaven forbid!) the heavily-protected Toronto Maple Leafs.

Personal insults should not be made...but if they ARE, it is permitted to respond to them in kind!

Happy posting, hockey lovers, and remember: in THIS thread, the truth is not only allowed, it's encouraged!

Hurray! Who thinks pk got to much money??? I think the habs bought the best marketable brand/ player in the nhl right now. He is good with media and will sell habs hockey goods like crazy .

Who's going to be the next captain of the habs? Pk not ready ?? or Pacciorety to inconsistent to be leading the team? Only time will tell if it is the wrong choice the team will fell like the leafs in the fall ( or spring ) ....

The summer was busy for Bergevin , the team scout gave a good grade card for the young upcoming defense . Hope the coach can deal with it . Tinordi is big but should take example with Emelin by being robust every time he it's the ice . Also can Nathan Beaulieu be the solution for the power play? For me the pp solution is a low wrist shot from pk to pleki , the no 14 as great vision of the puck and can easily deflect it behind the goalie. Bredan Gallagher is the new Claude Lemieux ! He should play a bit less fair play and stick it were it hurst :))
Michel Therrien wasn't good enough to win the cup with Crosby !!? I still think is a transition coach , good with the kids but not to lift lord Stanley !
Go Habs Go!!

It seems that your observation is true, especially when you consider that he was chosen to participate as an interviewer at the recently televised NHL Awards. He's also done things such as local news/weather and he was quoted during the love-a-thon for Genie Bouchard. He is definitely one of the best-known and marketable of the current NHL players.

The Leafs are going to honor former players starting with Ted Kennedy.

He's a logical choice since he was the LAST LEAF to win the Hart Trophy as MVP...back in 1955 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) an astounding 59 YEARS AGO... (even longer than their 47 YEARS of complete and utter failure as a hockey team).

Interesting observation: the official Leaf thread began way back in October 2010. It is proudly stated in bold at the bottom of the first post "In Burke we trust" (sic).

Such faith and optimism may have seemed touching at the time but as we all know Burke was unceremoniously fired a couple of years ago after 4 years of abject failure in his oft-stated goal of getting the Leafs to the playoffs.

The Leafs of course have made the playoffs only once in the last decade (in a shortened season after the "trusted" Burke was fired). As expected, they were eliminated in round one - and in a particularly humiliating fashion even by the extremely low "standards" of the woebegotten Toronto franchise - as they staged the most EPIC COLLAPSE in the long history of Stanley Cup game sevens.

Full marks to Tim Leiweke for knowing when to leave a sinking ship. He became President and CEO of MLSE on June 30, 2013 and has now announced that he will be leaving by June 2015 - or earlier if a successor is found.

Gee I wonder if the Leafs pulling their usual late-season gutless collapse to LOSE 12 OF THEIR LAST 14 GAMES and miss the playoffs as usual had something to do with Tim's decision?

After his previous association with a quality franchise like the LA Kings, Tim was probably quite rightfully sickened by the sight (and smell!) of the wretched 23rd place Leafs.

Good move Tim:thumb:

NHL.com has posted their opinion of the top 14 D-men in the NHL. After the top 14, they mention 3 others who got votes. Then there are many reader comments.

Needless to say, there is absolutely NO mention of Dion Phaneuf ANYWHERE. (Hey, it's the best D-men...not the most overrated player in the entire league - a title Dion has won more than anyone else!)

#1 Drew Doughty
#2 Shea Weber
#3 Zdeno Chara
#4 Duncan Keith
#5 P.K. Subban

Some others: Erik Karlson, Niklas Kronwall, Ryan Suter

But cheer up leaf fans: if they listed the top 150, Dion MIGHT have a SLIM chance of making the list.

Leafs Do It Again!

ESPN has released its annual list ranking all 122 franchises of North America's 4 major sports, in order of satisfaction towards the fans.

The Toronto Maple Leafs came dead LAST overall.

They could not make the top 100 (!!!) in a SINGLE category!

They ranked 105th in ownership, 109th in stadium experience, 113th in coaching (hi Randy).

They came DEAD LAST in many categories, including:

1. Wins per fan dollar
2. Affordability of tickets, parking and concessions
3. Fan relations (courtesy by players, coaches, front office)
4. Use of technology
5. Players (effort on the ice and likeability off the ice)
6. And my favorite: championships won or expected within lifetime of current fans!

BTW, this post doesn't really belong in a free-for-all thread since it's completely factual reporting...but I put it here to spare the feelings of those oh-so-sensitive Leaf fans who just can't tolerate a single bad word about their beloved "heroes".

Look behind you.
Looks like my Oilers still have no defence and are trying to bolster up the offence.... Damn we need to get rid of MacT & Lowe.... The Edmonton papers are talking about the Fasth & Scrivens goaltending team, fuck if you have no defence and 45 shots on net every night no goalie will look good.... Again MacT & Lowe working on offence only. Also with all the first picks they get and get shut out a lot or only 1 goal what the fuck it that.
I will still cheer for them but have my doubts for a playoff spot again this year.

LEAFS RANK LAST

TORONTO - The Maple Leafs find themselves in the basement before a puck has even been dropped on the 2014-15 National Hockey League season.

The Original Six franchise, which has not won a Stanley Cup since 1967, finished dead last in the annual rankings of 122 franchises throughout the NHL, NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball as conducted by ESPN: The Magazine.

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/09/19/leafs-rank-last-in-espn-poll

the article should read: "The Original Six franchise, which has not won its conference since 1967, ... "

GHG, the best part was the comments, where Leaf fans themselves overwhelmingly expressed the opinion that the franchise sucks! Maybe Koolaid sales are finally decreasing!

The Toronto Maple Leafs came dead LAST overall.

Here is the official link.

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/teamrankings#table

As you can see, you can go back to 2003.

The Leafs' rankings out of 122 were:

2014 = 122
2013 = 119
2012 = 122*
2011 = 120*
2010 = 121*
2009 = 120*
2008 = 121*
2007 = 99
2006 = N/A
2005 = N/A
2004 = 88

* = Burke years (Those Burkie years sure were impressive. :lol:)

One year that's particularly striking is 2007 where the 5 worst NHL ranked teams were:

TO = 99 of 122.
LA = 103 of 122.
FLA = 107 of 122.
BOS = 117 of 122.
CHI = 118 of 122.

Since then the Hawks won 2 cups, the Bruin 1, and the Kings 2. Even the Panthers outperformed the Leafs by making the playoffs in a full 82 game season.:whoo:

Thanks for the report G1G. It confirms what we all know: the Leafs are...and have been...consistently wretched for a long, long time.

Thumbs up to the small mercies for Toronto Maple Leafs fans, there is an upside to the bottom of the barrel: it can't get worse!
