Toronto Maple Leafs = new Smurfs

The opening day 23 man roster for Montreal averages 203.26 lbs.
The Leafs opening day 23 man roster averages 198.87 lbs,
a 4.39 difference and the 3rd smallest team in the league.

If 'Fat Phil' Kessel was in shape, he would be 20 lbs lighter, and Montreal would be on average 5.26 lbs heavier !

Great posts as usual GHG and Anon Vlad:thumb:

Meanwhile, after losing to the Wings for the second consecutive night, the woeful Leafs are now 2-3-1 to start the season...and usually they get FAR worse by the end.

More amusingly: the wretched Leafs have only ONE win in regulation time in their 6 games so far, and they have been outshot (as usual) in FIVE of their six games.

They were horrible last year (well, okay, they've been horrible for 47 YEARS - soon to be 48) but it's starting to look like they're even worse this year. Let's hope so!

There's nothing better than watching this laughingstock of a "team" repeatedly pressing the "FAIL" button.

That was 12 months ago - could you provide an update please ?

You know GHG, somehow I think it's not going to happen.

It seems that the board's resident leaflovers (both of them) have been conspicuously absent from the hockey threads this season....just like they were conspicuously absent last season as soon as the inevitable Leaf collapse occurred.

They have not even been posting in their own "no truth allowed" thread.

Leaf fans are all talk until reality sets in, and then they vanish - unable to face the music.

But on a positive note, give them credit for finally realizing that their team flat-out sucks.

I was very pleased to see that after a long period of inactivity there are now a few new posts in the no truth allowed thread and that they're as hilarious as ever. Thanks for the great laughs, guys:thumb:

Very sad news to report: The Islanders lost to the wretched Leafs. Of course despite losing 5-2 the Isles OUTSHOT the wretched Leafs 36 to 28. Unfortunately Halak did not have the best game of his career and unfortunately Bernier was okay.

The Leafs have now been outshot in SIX of the seven games they played this year. In other words they're just as crappy as they were last year when they finished 23rd and as usual FAILED to make the playoffs. Let's hope that Bernier and Reimer start to crumble so that this national embarrassment falls to the cellar that it so richly deserves.

Yes, the suggestion in the Leafs thread was to trade: Jake Gardiner, Nazem Kadri, Joffrey Lupul and James Reimer

Even Leaf fans are suggesting buying out Clarkson, Pylon Phaneuf and Bozak and firing their coach. They fired Burke, but kept the guy he trained, No-nutts. If Captain Pylon is the best of their defensemen, then obviously the rest have to go also. Kessel and Van Riemsdyk are hardly exceeding expectations. They have already released a few players.

Trading is not going to solve their problems as it's hard to make a trade when nobody in the NHL wants their players, particularly considering their contracts.

The solution to their problems is therefore obvious. They should release the entire team. Then they can get a highly motivated, less expensive group of players by promoting an entire CHL team.

No Chara? No problem...as the Bruins beat the hapless and hopeless Leafs 4-1 in the Leafs' own barn.

D-man Dougie Hamilton: 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points, 4 shots, 3 hits, 1 takeaway

"Star forward" (ha ha) Phil Kessel: ZERO goals, ZERO assists, ZERO points, (only) 3 shots (in comparison), 1 giveaway

Hamilton is 6'5", 212 pounds and only 21 years old. How did the Bruins get such a great acquisition? Oh yeah, the KESSEL trade, where they ALSO got Tyler Seguin ( who did better than Phil last season and is leading the league in points so far this season). Great trade Burkie (ha ha ha!).

True, Boston later traded Seguin to Dallas but even if they JUST had Hamilton they'd still be better off than with Kessel...and they DON'T just have Hamilton, since they got Loui Eriksson for Seguin.

The larceny doesn't end there. Rask had another great game against his former team. Rask (a very high first round selection) was traded to Boston for 'red light' Raycroft who in turn was run out of town by Leaf fans after just one season. Meanwhile, Rask has gone on to establish himself as one of top 'tenders in the league.

Bottom Up not Top Down

JoelCairo and GoHabsGo, you are looking at the standings from the opposite end of Leafs' fans. As they say in business (and the Leafs, thanks to being the closest thing to a NHL team in all of Ontario, are a supremely successful business), they are dedicated to building from the bottom up, not the top down.

Toronto is already tied for 5th for the best chance of getting the No #1 draft pick in next year's draft. If they do, they can then proclaim a new saviour - the Kessel trade, Burke, the monstrous goaltender, Raycroft for Rask, Wilson, Carlyle, firing of Carlyle's assistants, long term signing of their sub-zero stars etc. have't worked out all that well.

Normally the Leafs fall with their namesakes in autumn and then tank again in March and early April when they are threatened with missing some of their golf season. This year, they are getting a head start to avoid a repetition of their embarrassment in April 2013.

True - when we talk about the Smith Brothers it's no longer the cough medicine guys, it's now the hockey-playing brothers in Boston and Detroit!

Hahaha, Smith Brothers cough drops. Brings back memories of childhood. Lol.
