What's astonishing is that the Leafs are one of the best puck-possession teams in the league, while Detroit is now one of the worst. Observers are astounded how Babcock has had such an impact on that statistic.
Look, i've pretty much written this season off since i'll give Babs and his team some time in rebuilding the Leafs franchise into a winner. I've only been a casual observer this season and a Leafs win or loss hasn't had much of an effect on me. But i admit that they've actually played pretty well all season but have run into a lot of bad luck on most nights. Just the other night, the Capitals tied the game with less than a second left on the clock and wound up winning in the boring shootout. And they've also been victimized by a bad goal in several games and have at times faced incredible goaltending (Price, Fleury, etc). They dominated the Red Wings the other night, but the Wings goalie (Mrazek) played his best game.
No big deal, it's only a sign that good things are on the horizon. It's all looking up for the greatest franchise in the history of professional hockey!
