So, the Leaf rebuild appears to be going as expected: 1 win in 10 games (tied with the Ducks for fewest wins) , a season total of 4 points (tied for lowest in the league with the Ducks and Blue Jackets), their 4th overall pick Little Mitch Marner not even in the league, their fifty million dollar "best coach in the world since May 20" with a 10% winning record in Toronto, Tie Game Bernier just WISHING he could manage even a tie (let alone, heaven forbid, a WIN), and absolutely no future...except for a likely lock to hold their title (courtesy of ESPN) as the absolute worst franchise in ALL of North America's major sports (a title they have proudly held 3 of the last 4 years, including the last 2 in a row).

On the bright side, in tonight's 4-0 loss to the Pens, they only gave up ONE shorthanded goal.

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."

And maybe we should also start saying "Thank you Mr. Shanahan."

Anybody notice that Babs is doing WORSE than his predecessors Wilson, Carlyle, and the great Peter Horachek?

Fleury had an assist, which was more points than all Leafs combined last night.

Dr. Babcock has a 50 million dollar contract.

This season the Leafs have scored the fewest goals in their first 10 games in the last 50 years.

Some interesting math:

Mike Babcock "earns" (?) $6,250,000 this season (as well as each of the next 7, by which time he will be 60 years old).

He will coach the Leafs for (only) 82 games this season, since they sure as Hell will fail to make the playoffs - as usual.

10 games have thus far been played, and the Leafs have but ONE lonely victory (against Columbus, which at a woeful 0 and 8, having lost EVERY game it played, fired its coach and replaced him with John Tortorella).

Thus, Dr. Babcock has coached 10/82 of the current season.

10/82 of $6,250,000 is $762,195.

Thus, the cost of having "the best coach in the world" (since May 20, 2015) available for ONE win was $762,195.

Of course, that ONE win actually cost MANY millions more, since substantial money was also paid to "Captain" Phaneuf, "First Line Centre" Tyler Bozak, "Durable" Joffrey Lupul, "Reliable" Nazem Kadri, "Topnotch Goalies 1A and 1B" Jonathan "Nelson Mandela was a great hockey player" Bernier and James "Rock Solid" Reimer, and "Plus-Minus Superstar" JVR, as well as all the other lesser-known Leafs...not to mention Lou, Shanny, and all the other management staff and associates in the highest paid bureaucracy in the NHL.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget the multi-millions being paid to Nathan "Never Play Again" Horton as well as the $1.2 million being paid to Phil Kessel TO PLAY FOR THE PENGUINS!

What a great, great, TRULY GREAT franchise! Toronto might not be the best hockey organization (duh!!!) but it sure as Hell provides the best laughs!

I watched some hockey last night, enjoyed the penguins and the red wings games. Anybody surprised or shocked that there was no tribute for Phil the thrill Kessel? Is that the new way of doing things in Toronto?

Look behind you.
Rumors around Edmonton is that Chiarelli is looking for a veteran defenceman and will trade a previous first round pick plus. Wonder what is out there for grabs.
