I think there are only two viable parties. The liberals and the CAQ. I say things in Quebec have been going well and people do not have the appetite to invite any separatist party into power.

My kids have been visiting me in Vancouver, talking about the elections and from what they say the Liberals should be out, my ex says her family is not voting Liberal. People after awhile see through the smoke and mirrors, free stuff around election time are signs of a losing team.

I find it sad, very depressing that peoples are not interested into the real "for quebec" party anymore. The PQ should be the only legit choice.

Now that being said i rather give a chance to CAQ than having yet another 4 years of those criminals in ties. Hell they are investigated for collusion and corruption and still peoples vote for them. I just don't understand. Well ... i do understand a bit, the problem is they get a lot of votes from immigrants and english speakers... The french native vote is divised a lot between PQ and CAQ so that kinda does not help.

You forget the ultra left party Quebec Solidaire which even divides the PQ vote...

The PQ tried and failed. Time to move on. It's not politics that will preserves our french identity. It's by being strong economically and culturally. We have quite a lot of work to do but to me I also believe it's time to give CAQ a chance just to slow down the liberals a bit.

The sad part is that it didn't failed really. Well that is if you don't count the year or so when "Matante Pauline" was prime minister. Hell even i didn't vote PQ during that time, cause i couldn't stand her. But Parizeau and Bouchard, despite the fact i was kinda young back then, did a lot of good for the province. Hell we lost the referendum 50.58% / 49.42%. Merely 1% and a lot of us believe we where robbed

Yes today we lost any chance. There have been way too much immigration since then, the "Quebecois de Souche" numbers are only downing every year especially in Montreal and even among the Quebecois the patriotism is sadly not what it used to. Lots of young peoples care more about what happen in the world than what happen in there own province. Internet and stuff...

We will never be able to be a country, and this will always be a damn shame.

I think the biggest problem of the PQ is that it had trouble finding a true leader since many years. Andre Boisclair had scandals, Pauline was just not charismatic and lots of peoples didn't liked her, and then there was PKP... He originally seem charismatic and determined, but before you knew it he resigned. Also being the boss of videotron kinda caused problems too...

I don't think Lysée is a bad leader or anything. He seem sympatic and seem to represent the party well, but i think he lacks a bit of punch and i don't see the party suceeding with him. Its a shame cause personally i was in favor of Paul St-Pierre Plamondon as leader. He had zero chances realisticaly but i followed him close on facebook and he had very good idea and seem to be what the party needed to revigorate. He is also much younger and can draw much more to the younger audience than a typical white hair polytical old man.

But then again i say this and Couillard actually got elected multiple times despite looking super arrogant, fraudulous, not sympatic at all, AND coming right after the shenanigans of Jean Charest. Ever seen that meme where the 2 are on a picture and Jean says "Jte l'avais dit mon Phil, des memoires de poissons rouge" ? Can't find the exact one but that one is close enough...

Here is a synopsis of the situation.

Liberals = not separatist.

Parti Québécois, Québec Solidaire, CAQ = separatist leanings.

The economy is good, things are going well. Very few people want to take a chance to vot for any party that will bring us back to the economic depression of the early 80s. Especially when Donald Trump is firing his shit bazooka at countries around the world.

I’d like to know. What bad thing have the liberals done... cut spending? That’s not bad! Quebec was living off a credit card. We needed to cut. And they cut in the right places. The economy is strong. The budget is controlled.
I laugh everytime i see an article about QS. Where do they think they’ll get the money? Tax the rich more. The rich will leave...then what.
The CAQ has no team. No one with experience. He’s a one man show. Look how good that is going in the states.
And the PQ. They’re going the same way the bloq is going

Who knows
I’ve been trying these days to put a racist connotation by saying je vote blanc! Not getting too much traction, though.
Shouldn’t this thread be in French?

The economy is strong

Quebec receives $11 billion a year in equalization payments from the rest of Canada for being a have not province, I think they are the highest taxed groip in North America. They need serious repairs in the infastructure which is being delayed year after year. Their aged population is increasing year after year. Quebec is losing thousands of young people through interprovincial migration, reason for low unemployment. From 1981 to 2017 Quebec lost 230,000 people under the age of 45. In a few years Quebec will have major issues with skilled workers gone plus an aged base population. If the equalization payments stop ( and they should ) Quebec would be in real trouble.

It's well known that cost of living is much lower in Quebec. Salary are lower. This automatically leads to higher prerequation revenu from ottawa. Which is also the result of beeing the second province in terms of population.

Quebec would not be in real trouble with the stop of prerequation payments. The cost savings giving to the federal would highly cover the difference.

Quebec would be in real trouble if we separate because who wants to deal with the one that set itself appart? Just watch the UK struggle because of Brexit... (my take is it's so bad UK will eventually never really leave the EU).

You sure get some wrong info with many of your posts, this is just an example of equalization costs and payouts.

But equalization is the main source of free money for the provinces to spend any way they like. And Quebec is pocketing the biggest share of it and still snarls. This year alone, Quebec will take*$7.4 billion*from equalization while paying in just*$2.9 billion.Aug 17, 2012

So do you think Quebecers are grateful? Or do they say: sure, we get money from Ottawa, but it’s only fair because we pay into things like equalization?

You guessed it. And they do pay in. The problem is, they don’t pay very much.

The finance department doesn’t have straightforward numbers on how much provinces pay into equalization because, unlike programs such as the Canada Pension Plan, equalization doesn’t have its own dedicated source of money. It just comes out of the feds’ main general revenue account. But we can still work it out, because Statistics Canada has figures on how much each province contributed to general revenue from 1961-2009. (Although the agency says the pre-1981 numbers were calculated on a different and less satisfactory basis.)

When we do the math we find that Quebec has contributed about $107 billion of $510 billion since 1957. Since it has received $253 billion, it comes out $146 billion to the good, which amounts to inhabitants of the province getting back $2.36 for every dollar they’ve paid in. Some ripoff.

You should work for Trump.

Reading you guys depress me. Just thinking about money and economy. Its not about this !! ITS ABOUT FREEDOM !!

A Quebec that would be free to have ONE official language in itself.
A Quebec that wouldn't be tied to an old monarchy we don't give a crap about (the english Canada tough, they still do and thats why Canada is not even an independant country in itself)
We wouldn't be hostage of the bad decisions of Ottawa and the clown that is our current prime minister.

Quebec Solidaire are a joke of a party and they double annoy me since they even divise the vote more. But i think it would be a major improvement to switch from the liberals to the other 2 by a long mile.

Jean-François Lisée lost his smug bastard look and is trying the intellectual look. Even his smug bastard tone has been taken down a few notches.

Well, I don't like Lisee but he is doing a good positive campaign. Legault seems awkward and will need a lot of luck to win. Couillard is trying any dirty trick in the book and he has the upper hand. He saved a lot of money (remember the 'austerity'?) And now he can spend lavishly. I am afraid he will win a minority government and the caq will collapse after Legault retires. The French vote will continue to be split in 3 and the Liberals will remain in power for at least 15 years. Voila. I hope I am wrong, but a CAQ victory is the last chance for French Quebec to rule the province.

I do not believe so. We are already a cheap labor province in high end technology, pharma and quite a few other area. With our vary low cost of living, low salary, very high potential for natural resource we have everything needed to make ends meet.

Other rich country like the USA will implode because of the inequities between the 10% that owned 99% much faster then Quebec long term.

Liberals majority. People don’t admit that they vote for them

People also don’t admit that their shit stinks. I think lesser of evils analysis gets applied more often than not. I can’t remember the last time I voted in a US election and felt good about the candidate I voted for. We don’t have many Abraham Lincolns running for office and I sense Quebec doesn’t either.
