stayed there Once, about 6 months or so ago, overall it was "decent" and i say that loosely, for the price, aside from the fact it was warm out and the ac was horrible, but for what i paid it was decent, but it would not of been a place i would seek out or go out of my way to stay there. I was telling a buddy that the Grand Plaza reminds me of Downtown Las Vegas hotels vs. the Strip hotels, more for the older crowd thus cheaper as well usually.

Is this a sign that the general trend of Montreal economy has been declining in recent years? Perhaps someone familiar with the city can elaborate?
I'd say it has more to do with new absentee ownership that took over in 2009 letting the place decline. If you read the newspaper article, you'd also know that they wanted to turn the place into condos and were denied a zoning variance by the city. What they'll do with the place no, I have no idea.

My experience, Beav, is that the more expensive the hotel, the more likely they are to charge for internet.

For the most part you are correct, with the notable exception of the Omni however. This has been a pet peeve of mine and the last time I stayed at the Intercontinental I filed a complaint about it with the manager and requested an explanation as to why their 4 star competitor Omni offers a free wifi service to their guests and the Intercontinental charges $14.75/day. The answer I got was "it's a management decision". Nobody there denied my claim that it was criminal for any hotel to charge for Internet service given that free Wifi is abundantly available at restaurants and coffee shops throughout Montreal. I suggested to the manager that in this context, the practice of charging for Internet service might be viewed as an unfair trade practice, if not larceny. My statement was not rebutted or denied.

That being said, many of the hotels offering free Internet service are offering a service that sucks donkey testicles. The Hotel Maritime for example. When I was there I was in the middle of an intense, power search on which escort I was going to see that night when I was kicked off the hotel's wireless network with a notation that I had to call the front desk for a new password. The front desk then told me I would have to wait another 2 hours to get that new password. Problem was that I wanted to arrange to get laid NOW, not 2 hours from now. You don't want to hear that kind of bullshit when your cock is very very hard and you need relief. This is the kind of fucking shit that you have to deal with at some of the hotels that offer free Wifi.

Hello all,

For the most part you are correct, with the notable exception of the Omni however. This has been a pet peeve of mine and the last time I stayed at the Intercontinental I filed a complaint about it with the manager and requested an explanation as to why their 4 star competitor Omni offers a free wifi service to their guests and the Intercontinental charges $14.75/day. You mean the hotel manager and staff were sharp enough not to contradict a paying customer with a tech obsession and an attitude obviously closed to perfectly reasonable contrary opinions. Smart!

Ahhhhhhhhh, when you pay for Wifi nothing ever, EVER goes wrong. Then the logical thing to do would be to bid only on 4-star hotels.

I stayed there back in 2002-2003.
Parked my car in the scary dungeon-like parking garage.
Got drunk.
Cut my foot on a piece of glass on the bathroom floor.
Sp then arrived thinking someone must have bled to death in the bathroom.
Sp's purse caught on fire during lovemaking session....what can i say? It was THAT intense!
Got drunk again.
Called another sp
Smoked some weed.
Banged sp.
Smoked more weed.
Got the munchies so ordered from Alto.
Checked out a couple of days later & never looked back.
I hate this fucking place!

My memory of this place is of being with one of my ATFs there and having a sensational time with her. Not a very great place, but the location was great for me, and I had a room with a fantastic view to the east.

However, the parking garage was a nightmare.

Cheers,

Merlot

This news changes the dynamics of Priceline bidding. Many were avoiding bidding on the 3 stars out of fear of an acceptance by the Crowne Plaza. Now that this fear has been removed, 3 star bidding should again become de rigueur.

I was about to say the same. This hotel was poluting 3 stars options, just like the Sheraton does it for 4 stars.

Companies use to be flushed with money, they use to send their people to meet the guys in other cities as a reward. Sort of like a paid vacation. They can't do that any more. Meetings are by phone or internet cam.

Hey! Isn't this the kind of flaming that ought to get this guy banned for a week. Or at least sentenced to three days at the Comfort Inn on St. Hubert.

My one time there was about 26 years ago before I moved to MTL.

I was in town with my GF at the time visiting her family.
Big family fight and she didn't want to stay at her family's place so we stayed there.

It wasn't a great place but it was clean, cheap and it was conveniently located.
