Flank steak - When there was no demand it use to be chucked in with the hamburger meat. No it is prized for oriental dishes when sliced thin it cooks quickly offers a flavorful. lean and tender slices of beef.

Chicken wings - Butcher shops that would cut up chicken for breast and legs had no use for the wings until people started to use them for BBQ

Briskets - The smoked meat market is eating up all the supply of briskets.

It is all supply an demand

Meat is ...

I'll never understand how people can be so enamored by devouring the carcasses of dead animals. Just ugh, I mean what seems more attractive a glass of blood from an animal or fruit juice? Recent road kill or recently dropped fruit?

I do not think I will ever understand why people think meat is so desirable, it doesn't even taste good.

Schwartz is hands down the best. I've tried them all. Cheaper than Dunn's and Reuben's. Spices, texture, quality of meat is all better

I found a good deal on smoke meat at a restaurant called the Rail. It's on the reserve route 138 in Kahnawake.

Personally, the only time i eat a smoked meat sandwich is when i'm eating at Reuben's, which is my favorite restaurant on the planet. Believe it or not, i still haven't eaten from Schwartz even though i've been going to Montreal for nearly 30 years. One day i will. I find it's too far & everytime i've walked by the place, there was a lineup of people outside.

I'm not a fan of anything Dunn's makes, especially the smoked meat. I loved it back in the late 80's/early 90's, but either i found something better or their food isn't what it used to be. Maybe it's just me, who knows.

Back in the 80's, i lived in Longueuil for a year & there was a Belle Province restaurant at the corner of where i used to live. They actually made a pretty good smoked meat sandwich, but i haven't went back in decades.

Since EB's posts have been deleted, I will point out that Schwartz actually smokes the meat in-house and, according to their website, uses no preservatives.

I think all the others use meat from outside sources which have been cured with nitrites / nitrates, which are probable carcinogens and the same stuff used in most hot dogs, bacon etc. A lot of people prefer the taste of nitrate / nitrite cured meat, but it shouldn't be eaten too often.

many places are increasing the price to $10+ a sandwich, they priced themselves out of the market for me. There are just too many choices out there.

I favour most of the restaurants listed above.
However what I've noticed in the 15 years that I've been enjoying smoked meat is that portion sizes have been decreasing over time. This also includes the quantity of smoked meat received on the "small plate" or "large plate" options (i.e. build your own sandwich with rye bread on the side).
As the mantra goes, too much of a good thing is good for nothing, and I very rarely partake in smoked meat as I get fed up of copious amounts of it fast. It tastes disgusting cold, and it will clog my arteries.
At an rate, the best brisket in the world would be in Texas, but I am not likely to get down there anytime soon.

Smoke Meat Pete...you can't beat Pete's meat! Comparable to Schwartz but better fries (they double fry them) and great atmosphere with live blues music, easy parking, no traffic. Summer outdoor patio! Ile Perrot right off highway 20...right next to the Dairy Queen...you can't miss it.

One guy here knows his smoke meat. Pete has been beating out Schwartz for years now.

Reubens (a youngster), Chenoys (another youngster), Dunns, Dankoffs, Bens, Top Shop, Nickels, Abies, Le Roi, Alfa okay to so so to baloney. Some are closed.

Back then my favorite smoked-meat restaurant was Ben's

There is a good place which is not mentioned in this thread: George's near Rubens on Saint-Martin Boulveard in Laval.

George is a former Schwarts employee and the smoked-meat are fairly good there.

Smuler, here's my answer to your question:

Smoked-meat...no not really (even if there are traditional Jewish districts in São Paulo such as Consolação or Bela Vista).

The big hit in São Paulo is Mortadella Sandwich (Sanduíche de Mortadela)

The best ones are in Mercado Municpal (Municipal Market)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlopcnb1KQ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortadella_sandwich

They have also hot dogs and Hamburgers but they don't taste like the ones in North America (even those that you buy in MacDonalds or Burger Kings). I find them to salty....beurk.

They have a national Hot Dog restaurant: Black Dog
http://www.blackdog.com.br/
I don't like these Hot Dogs....I prefer those on St. lawrence Street in Montreal (Montreal Poolroom or those that are made on East montreal (Broodway Hot dogs)

I found this on the Internet...what kind of hot dog is it? I want to puke!!!!! (Hot dogs that are made in Osasco)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BoHR34TnR0

The best thing to eat in São Paulo is pizza! And naturally typical Brazilian Cuisine (the best comes from Minas Gerais)

Restaurant Consulado Mineiro is very good.

One of the best place for steaks is: Baby Beef Rubayat

Hello,

Just want to point out that Le Roi Du Smoked Meat, has a M-F 11:00 - 15:00 lunch special for smoked meat, fries, coleslaw & pickle spear, for 10.95 CAD.

I had it last week and it was a pretty good deal and a pretty good meal.

Yes I also stopped by Abandoned for a massage too.

I enjoy Le Roi Du Smoked Meatmore, 6705 Saint Hubert Street, Montreal, Quebec H2S 2M6, Canada
http://www.yelp.com/biz/le-roi-du-smoked-meat-montreal-2

It's also 2 blocks away from Abandoned spa.
http://abandonspas.com/coordinates.html

So massage first then a smoked meat sandwich after.

I do miss Ben's for a smoked meat in downtown.
