Tex,
You're new in this thread so you probably don't know about, Joe. He's suffering from recurring hallucinations. The doctors thinks his mother must have taken enough acid to freak out Pittsburgh while she was pregnant.

Joe's hallucinations most frequently take the form of visions of every All Star player winding up in a Yankee uniform over the course of the winter. It started with Dontrelle Willis and now it's moved on to Johan Santana. Just humor him.

He's a fucking moron, but a lovable one. Yes, it appears that the Mets are the team most likely to land Santana, but don't tell Joe. He'd probably lose his pacifier.

Looks like the Jays and Cards have swapped a bad shoulder for a bad foot. I'm not sure how to view the Rolen-Glaus deal. Certainly this is a huge defensive upgrade for the Jays, though I wonder what they're expecting from the seriously damaged Rolen, who has seen his offensive capability compromised by injury for several years now.

Glaus had been on the trading block all season long last year, the team figuring he wasn't worth his large contract considering he was often injured. Then late in the season, the story about his purchase of HGH a few years ago came out & the team didn't like the unwanted attention the story was creating. So they finally found a taker, although their salaries & injury track-record are very similar. Funny you mention that Rolen will be a huge upgrade defensively, since this is what i liked the most about Glaus...he didn't often make errors & rarely made bad throws to first. Gibbons even had him playing shortstop for a few games 2 years ago. But last year, possibly due to a nagging foot injury (which he's since had surgery on) & chronic back problems, his offensive production declined & he didn't hit as many homeruns. Along with the likes of Frank Thomas, the basepaths would be jammed up everytime the both of them would wind up on base due to their slowness. I gather Rolen is a better runner than Glaus, which will be a plus. It will be interesting to see which of these players plays the most games during the upcoming season. Now that the Jays have obtained Rolen (although the trade hasn't been officially announced yet), along with the recent acquisition of David Eckstein, their whole left side of the infield will have changed & they now will have the same left side (of the infield) that the St-Louis Cardinals had last year, since Eckstein also played for the cards.

How very sweet it is

Not only are the Red Sox the Champions of the entire world, but...

1. They are a fairly young team with all the significant players returning.
2. Baseball America has just come out with their farm system rankings and the Sox are ranked 2nd of 30, behind only Tampa Bay.

Joba Chamberlain for rookie of the year or CY Young, $160, what do say pal of mine or is that bright yellow streak shinining brightly down your back again?:)

And yes I do have propriety rights to the "fucking moron" moniker but don't ever call me a "fat stinker that reeks of crap" because someone else already has propriety rights to that moniker.:)

PS- Robinson Cano for MVP(a bit of a stretch but he should make a serious run this year, the guy is a human highlight film on defence).

$160 it is, though my current fave does charge a bit more.

While a Red Sox offer of Masterson & Lowrie plus Ellsbury and a 4th prospect could have a little more overall talent than the Yanks offer of Hughes, Cabrera, Marquez and a 4th prospect, the best overall prospect in the bunch is Phil Hughes by a lot. The other Red Sox offer of Masterson, Lowrie, Lester (#3-4 starter) and Crisp is not as good as the Yankee offer if it includes Horne or Kennedy. The Twins seem to agree as they could have this option at any time.
Thanks for all of this. Quite well thought out, but certainly long enough that there's enough to disagree with. In this particular paragraph, I'll only take exception to "a lot." While I agree that Hughes is the best prospect of those you mention, the gap is small. Also, considering that the likelihood of a hitting prospect panning out is much, much greater than that of a pitching prospect, Ellsbury probably has more value in the market than Hughes.

chercherfemmes said:
The Yankees should let Hughes and Joba develop into a solid 1-2 punch at the head of the rotation, although it will take a year or so for this to happen. Both Joba and Hughes grade out as better prospects than the Red Sox' Buckholtz. For a lefty, the Yanks could then sign Sabathia or Santana as free agents next year.
I've never seen anyone express the opinion that Hughes and Chamberlain grade out higher than Buchholz. Quite the contrary. At this point, both Buchholz and Chamberlain are more highly thought of than Hughes. John Sickels grades Buchholz as a 9A and Chamberlain as a 9B. What this means is that they have equally high potential, the 9, but that Buchholz has a greater likelihood of reaching that potential than does Chamberlain, the A and B. This is because Buchholz is 2 years older than Chamberlain and is a more finished product. Buchholz also doesn't have the injury history that Chamberlain has. Also Buchholz has never weighed 290 lbs.

As far as I can tell, the Red Sox who don't really need Santana, are staying in the game to either make the Yankees overpay with Hughes or get Santana cheaply for the package headed by Crisp.

I hear that the new Yankees offer will be Kennedy, Cabrera, Horne, Marquez and Austin Jackson. However I think that even this deal is too much for the right to pay a 29 year old pitcher, no matter how great, $22-$25 million per year.
I think the Sox are genuinely interested in Santana though, like the Yankees, they don't feel 1 year of Santana is worth 24 years of the prospects. I'd be shocked if the Yankees offer the five you mention here. Jackson is blue chip prospect, Kennedy and Horne aren't far behind, and while Cabrera will never be a star, he's a good quality major leaguer. This is way too much to pay for one year of Santana

chercherfemmes said:
Cabrera may not get there in 2008, but he’s going to pop 80 extra-base hits and slug .500 in a season very, very soon.
Never in a million years. That's 45 doubles, 10 triples, and 25 dingers. I respect Joe Sheehan a ton, but he's out of his fricking mind on this one.

Most major leaguers don't really develop their power until they are 23-25 years old. That's not a guarantee that Melky will improve to this degree, but it does increase the odds.
80 is a LOT of extra base hits. A-Rod had 85 last year. Papi had 88. Ordonez had 82. That's the list. Melky will NEVER be in that company.

I think I saw another article claiming that Ellsbury should average 50 doubles, 10 triples and 20 homers a year... Also very unlikely for the doubles and homers.
In his best year, maybe. Average?? Never. Ellsbury will likely be a better hitter than Melky and will likely hit a ton more doubles because he's got blazing speed. I do think that 20 HRs for him is not out of the question. He's got the power if he chooses to try to drive the ball, which is not how he's approached hitting up to now. He's come up as more of a slap hitter, but when he's tried to pull with power, he's shown that he's quite capable.

Her Hot Dreams
Hello all,

The finale figures on total salaries are out on the Red Sox and the Yankers for 2007. According to the radio braodcast I heard it's the Red Sox $155,000,000, Yankers $218,000,000. That's the losers spending $63,000,000 more and they still suck. Inflation...wheeeeew...the price of stinking keeps going up.

Santana to the METS!!!

Hello all,

Just listening to ESPN. The Red Sox are reportedly dropping out of the trade because of who the Twins want and the costly expectations for Santana's contract. The Sox were unwilling to both give up Lester and Ellsbury, and also pay a huge contract for Santana. The Yankees are reportedly offering Hughes as part of their deal to trade for Sanatana. But ESPN is reporting the Twins have agreed to a four player trade from the Mets for Santana.

Read it and weep...Yankers,

Korbel

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7734380/Mets-reach-deal-to-acquire-Santana

All that is left for the Mets is to sign Johan Santana long-term.

After months of deliberation, the Twins agreed to ship the two-time Cy Young Award winner to the Mets for outfielder Carlos Gomez, and pitchers Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey, two people familiar with the deal said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.

"If it's true, obviously, you're getting arguably the best pitcher in the game," Mets third baseman David Wright said.

The 72-hour window for the Mets to sign Santana to a contract extension is now open, major-league sources say. The trade will become official only after Santana passes a physical and an agreement is reached.

Santana, who turns 29 in March and is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, is expected to require a deal of at least six years and $20 million annually as the price for waiving his no-trade clause.

The Mets have indicated that they do not want to sign Santana for more than five years. But as they prepare to open a new ballpark next season, it is difficult to imagine that they would allow this opportunity to pass.

Santana is 93-44 with a 3.22 ERA in eight major league seasons, winning the AL Cy Young Award in 2004 and 2006. He has been less successful in the playoffs, going 1-3 with a 3.97 ERA.

"For our younger pitchers to develop under a guy like Pedro, a guy like Johan, you can't ask for any better situation," Wright said. "He's going to go out there and he's going to give you seven or eight innings every five days and he's going to get you a win. That's just what it comes down to. I've gotten a chance to get to know him a little bit the past couple years. He seems like a great clubhouse guy. He's going to fit in perfectly with the chemistry that we have."

The trade would mark a coup for the Mets, who appeared out of the running for Santana earlier this off-season, when the Red Sox and Yankees were more aggressive suitors.........

The Sox and Yankees both pulled the plug on this deal. Yesterday, the Twins asked the Yanks for Kennedy, Cabrera, and one other prospect and were rebuffed. The two earlier Sox offers, one revolving around Ellsbury, the other around Lester, were both better offers than the one they took from the Mets, but that, too, was not available to the Twins yesterday. This from numerous sources.

The Mets are going to have to sign Santana, no matter what the price. Santana's agent is quite aware of this. Expect something like 6 years, $130 M.

I'm happy. We get to keep our kids, the Yanks don't get Johan, Joe.T's still a fucking moron® and still easy pickings. Put on your dancing shoes, Chloe, next one's on Joe.

Hello all,

WAAAAAAAAAAAAA...oh my goodness that was ear-piercing. Didn't you all hear that animalistic cry. Damn Joe.t...I knew you would be upset, but get a grip on yourself...and I don't mean like when you are pleasuring yourself to A-Slob's gold-framed picture. The world isn't over just because the Yankers lost out and still look like losers AGAIN next year. Then again going blind on pinstripes for nothing...maybe the world is over for you.

Bronx cheers,

Korbel

To hell with Santana!!

Hey my delusional brothers(rumpy and korbie).

How does this starting pitching rotation look like- http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=nyy

The fourth picture must be a mistake because it looks like a young Roger Clemens to me, either that or I need glasses.

I looked up the definition of injured reserve in the dictionary and it gave me this discription- Clay Buchholz, 6"3, 190lbs.:(

I'd say it looks like one of the top 10 in the American League, you fucking moron®.

As for Clay Buchholz and his health, let's just say that his injury history is a lot better than that of the oft injured Chamberlain, the oft injured Hughes, the oft injured Pettitte, the oft injured Wang, and the oft injured Mussina.
