And it's the sport more involved with gambling & corruption on the entire planet. I'm reading a book these days called "The Fix: Soccer & Organized Crime" and i was shocked at how rampant gambling has been around soccer throughout the world. Many have also lost their lives because of it. A lot of the fixes involved the number of goals scored in a game. I'm not surprised anymore at seeing a team score 7 goals in a game against a team from a corrupt regime such as North Korea's.

If you want to continue enjoying the World Cup, don't read this book right now. If you do, you likely won't look at soccer/football as a 'beautiful' game anymore.

I the very specific case of North Korea, the probability of corruption is low in my opinion. In this prehistoric communist country international athlets are very well treated and priviledged as long as they are a good image for their country. By loosing 7-0 I would not be surprised if they risk not only to loose all the priviledge for them and their family, but maybe also their freedom and even their lives...

Hey hey ! you're just got into 'ma tale' ! If you just knew how much gambling, 'referee mistakes', fixing, etc.. are going on in pro sport.

Football has a lot that's for sure and the World Cup is THE SPORT EVENT so...wake up and smell your tim man :)

D'you think the Olympics are clean stuff ? :)

Good point. Now i wonder if the 'fix' wasn't in during North Korea's match against Brazil?

Nice and clean victory of Argentina over Greece.

As far as I am concerned, up to now, all my favorite teams are going to the second round. Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil.

France was humiliated and later this week it will be the turn of the Italians. Finally, there's justice in this sport...

I just love everything that is Italian : cuisine, fashion, poetry, sport cars, cities, cinema, etc. But the only thing in the world that I cannot stand are tifosis.

I hope that the USA will win against Algeria because I still believe that deserves to win this match. The ref. was unfair when he refused the goal. It was a real shame.

I don't think I'm wise...but even if I'm a québécois pure laine I played soccer for a long time and I still watch it all year long. I even played with my university in the late 70's and I played semi-pro in a beach soccer league (futebol de praia) in Rio de Janeiro between 1982 and 1984.

I just love the game and the culture surrounding it. The foul plays, the extravaganza, the fake, the cheaters, Maradona and his scandals. I have fun watching this WC (unfortunately my work is not progressing very much!)

I don't think Argentina has really been tested. They are in a weak group and have not played anyone really good yet.

The big game tomorrow is the USA vs. Algeria. If the USA wins, they advance. They should be able to kick some Algerian ass, but we will have to see what happens. I think the USA is very strong offensively but their defensive corps has looked slow at times. Hopefully the best defense will be keeping the ball in Algeria's end.

The French boys have disgraced themselves, from the coach not wanting to shake hands to the fiasco the players put on in this major event, truly unsportsmanship,France is crying.
