We should only single out baseball because baseball was the slowest of the major sports to respond, and because baseball openly marketed steroid abusing players.

Does this include professional wrestling (WWE)? :D

Hello Doc,

Like i predicted all along the August collapse has begun.
Actually, the August collapse will begin Friday. After tomorrow, the Sox have only 6 games remaining all season with teams with post-season contenders. Those games are all with the Yanks.

The Yankees, on the other hand, have 23 games remaining against contenders.

And as for Clemens being due, never have you spoken words so true, Joe, you fucking moron. At $28,000,000, he's due every time he sneezes, the fat redneck bastard.

He's Here!

The much anticipated promotion of Joba Chamberlain to the Yankees major league roster has occurred. He is in Toronto tonight!

I saw some video footage of Chamberlain pitching in the minor leagues. This guy throws some major smoke. Also, he did not have that many walks in the minors this year, so fears that he may suffer from Farnsworthitis may be premature.

From what I saw in the footage he has a big time major league heater and a nasty slider. His delivery appears compact. I hope he pitches tonight so we can see him against good live major league bats in the BJs batting order.

Giambi was also activated!

Bruney was sent to the minors and Miguel Cairo was designated for assignment. I feel bad for Cairo, because he is a true pro, but the Yankees now have better people on the bench in front of him and had to let him go.

Hello Rumples,

LOL...geeeeeeeez...you say..."Joe, you fucking moron" so often and so easily I am beginning to wonder if I missed something and if that isn't his real name. Could I get a peek at your license Joe? Really Rumples, c'mon it is quite over the top.

As for Clemens, at $28,000,000 for after joining the Yankers roster in late May or early June, not only is it one of the most grossly understatements in galactic history to say "he's due", at that price he should be fricking perfect every time...DAMN!!!! Instead he is practically stealing the money the way he pitches.

$RIP$ $OFF$,

While Chamberlain is a fine prospect, there are certainly some question marks.

1. The "next" kiss of death. In the pre-game show, Suzyn Waldman called him both the next Randy Johnson and the next Francisco Rodriguez. Remember the next Willie Mays? Clint Hurdle. Remember the next Mickey Mantle? Bobby Murcer. Following this, John Sterling stated that the Yankees fate this year hinged on Joba Chamberlain. That's a lot of weight to lay on a 20 year old.

2. Speaking of weight, Chamberlain is 6'3" and weighs 225 lbs. He once weighed 290, part of why he fell into the supplemental round of the 2006 draft. While Suzyn might see him as the next Randy Johnson, he's more likely the next Rich Garces, a prospect equally highly thought of on his ascension to the major leagues. Chamberlain was drafted 41st overall in 2006. In the 1990 draft, the Red Sox drafted 41st overall and picked Frankie Rodriguez, a player so fabulous they couldn't decide whether to put him at short or pitcher. He wound up pitching, ending his career with a 29-39 record and a 5.53 ERA.

3. The other reason he fell to the supplemental round is his history of triceps tendonitis.

Chamberlain pitched 2 scoreless innings last night - 2 IP, 1 H, 2K, 2 BB, 0 runs
Obviously, a very small sample size, but a pitcher who allows 1.5 runners per inning will not fare very well in the major leagues. The Red Sox have a team WHIP of 1.29, leading the AL. The only teams to allow more than 1.5 runners per inning are Texas and Tampa Bay.

You ever heard of a pitcher being nervous in his very first major league game possibly affecting his performance?
I've also heard of young pitchers being nervous in pennant races and post-season games.

Yep, have you ever heard the acronym TNSTAAPP? Stands for "there's no such thing as a pitching prospect."

JT,

Speaking of fucking morons, here is an open letter to John Gibbons, manager of the BJs:

Dear Mr. Gibbons:

When your pitcher Josh Towers - who, by the ways, is a scrawny little punk who looks like Sean Penn, except unlike Penn, is not a major league talent when facing major league hitters like he did last night - threw at Alex Rodriguez's kneecap last night, did you forget that Roger Clemens was pitching? You fucken moron, please go ask Alex Rios how his back feels this morning. Also, while you are at it, please ask your SS McDonald how he is feeling after getting taken out big time on that DP by Shelley Duncan. By the ways, Rios, an intentionally hit batsmen, was the only run that Clemens gave up against your sorry ass team last night. How does it feel to have invested all that money in A.J. Burnett and BJ Ryan ($104 million) and be in 3rd place? Hope you enjoy watching the playoffs on TV - again.

Sincerely,

EagerBeaver

Down to 5 games!!!

Its great being "a fucking moron" these days.:)
You know, when the Sox led by 9 games at the All Star Break, I felt that if the Sox could keep the lead at 5 or above between then and the time the Yanks' patsy schedule ended, that we'd likely end up the season about 9-10 games up. Well, the Yanks' patsy schedule ends today and it's on to Detroit, Anaheim, Cleveland, Boston. Other than a weekend series at home vs. Anaheim, the Sox will spend the next two weeks playing Tampa Bay and Chicago. Fun. Fun.

Law of averages applies here Joe.t, for the amount of ridiculously off base predictions that you make, you're bound to hit one sometime. This was your one. :p

I don't know Rumples, now that the Almighty Savior Joba is in the big leagues AND he pitched 2 scoreless innings in his debut, I'm starting to shake in my shoes  Hold me!

Yes Beav Clemens pitched awesome just like i predicted and with CY Wang pitching tonight it should cut the lead down to 4 games by the end of the night.:)

PS- And yes John Gibbons is a fucking moron along with Jessie Barfield who has a part of his last name that suits him perfectly, apparently Gibbons had no idea that Clemens would retaliate against Rios who is the best Blue Jay hitter.

Any analysis that is predicated upon looking at the schedule and wishfully pencilling in wins and losses usually fails. I try doing this every year when the UConn basketball schedule comes out and it's never right. We don't know which teams will get hot and cold and furthermore, there are quite a few games left to play and anything can happen. One thing I am fairly sure of is that the Yankees are not going to be so easily shut down by good pitching, because they are driving up pitch counts in a big way since the All Star break and nobody is good when their pitch count is high. It would not surprise me if the Yankees catch the Red Sox and it also would not surprise me if the Red Sox hold on to the lead as the Sox do have good starting pitching and a solid bullpen. Just too early to tell.

By the ways, Melky Cabrera is now well over .300 and Cano has skyrocketed into the top 10 in the AL in batting, in both cases no surprise to me. Cabrera last night 3 times hit the ball over the Toronto outfielders' heads, mainly because Gibbons and his staff fucked up in positioning his OFs. He is starting to drive the ball with authority and I think his power stroke is going to improve.

I agree with your observations. By the way, watching him last night, there's no way that he weighs only 225 lbs!! If he weighs only this much, i must weigh 140 lbs (i weigh 215 lbs, by the way). The announcers last night mentionned he was built like a present-day Roger Clemens. I don't disagree with them, but he reminded me more of Hideki Irabu. There is also the fact that he was born & raised on an indian reservation back in Nebraska. I'd be afraid for him that he might be easily tempted by city life & totally lose control & wind up with tons of personal problems/demons. For his sake, i hope not. But a young native indian kid from a small reserve & a city the size of New York City is not a good mix, especially once he starts earning a decent paycheque.

He looked good last night, but not better. But he appeared so darn nervous & jumpy in that first inning that i hope it was just simply because it was his first big-league appearance. But yes, he pitched well, i'll give him that.
