Any analysis that is predicated upon looking at the schedule and wishfully pencilling in wins and losses usually fails. I try doing this every year when the UConn basketball schedule comes out and it's never right. We don't know which teams will get hot and cold and furthermore, there are quite a few games left to play and anything can happen. One thing I am fairly sure of is that the Yankees are not going to be so easily shut down by good pitching, because they are driving up pitch counts in a big way since the All Star break and nobody is good when their pitch count is high. It would not surprise me if the Yankees catch the Red Sox and it also would not surprise me if the Red Sox hold on to the lead as the Sox do have good starting pitching and a solid bullpen. Just too early to tell.

Hello EB,

Now that is a fairly thoughtful analysis. Yes, it's tough for a pitcher to win when the batters are driving up the pitch count. That is something Youkilis has been known for along with a couple of other Sox players. But like Youkilis it gets tough to drive that pitch count up when you face more confident pitchers, and I suspect the much better teams the yankers will soon be facing are going to have much more challenging pitchers.

Hey Joe. t,

Good job by Clemens. That is what he should be doing every time for the salary he makes. Too bad 65-70% of his outings are poor-very bad. Overall, all he is just a very expensive dud.

Bronx cheers,

Wang gets a BANG!!!

Yes Beav Clemens pitched awesome just like i predicted and with CY Wang pitching tonight it should cut the lead down to 4 games by the end of the night.:)

Hello Joe. t,

It's only the 7th inning so far, but your ace Wang got Clemensized tonight...ripped to pieces like a fat rabbit at a pit bull convention. It seems that your allowance of one correct prediction a year got used up for yesterday's game. The damage for Wang is: 2.2 innings, 9 Hits, 8 Runs, 8 ER, 2 BB 3 K, 3.94 ERA...OUCH. I won't criticize Wang's general performance for the year. Without him the Yankers would be nailed to the bottom of the league. But it's now 15-4 and it's his fault. Slam bam thankyou mam...DAMN!!!

Back to the WRONG SIDE Josey,

Korbel

PS

Sorry to hear your "WANG" is hurting so much tonight...LOL! Even sorrier to hear your "WANG" took such a rough beating by a bunch a big guys...bwhahahahahahahahaha!!!

By the ways, Melky Cabrera is now well over .300 and Cano has skyrocketed into the top 10 in the AL in batting, in both cases no surprise to me.
Beav, I don't think there's any definition of the phrase "well over" by which you could justify using it to describe a .302 average. "Barely over" would be more accurate.

It seems that young Wang was slowly working his way into the top 5 or so in the Cy Young race before taking himself quite out of it tonight in a game that saw his ERA rise by nearly half a point.

Hello EB,

Rising averages are also a natural consequence of feeding on bottom dwellers and also-rans, just like running up pitch counts. Reality check...against Halladay at 13-5 now, the Yankers had 7 hits in 34 at bats for a .206 average and Melky was only 1-4. That's what happens when you face quality.

JAYS BOMBED THE YANKEES LAST NIGHT 15-4!!!!

Wang must have felt like he was throwing batting practice. Wait a minute...he was!!! :D

That's what happens i guess when the ace of the staff only has 1 pitch. Sinker, sinker, sinker!! Bam, bam, bam!! I love it!! :D :D :D

Must have been because the Yankees didn't have poor Pay-Rod in the lineup. He sat out the game with a sore calf muscle, which he received when he got hit by the pitch on the previous night. Oh, poor Pay-Rod!! Too bad he didn't bring his Vegas stripper girlfriend on this strip. She could have massaged his ailing calf back into shape for the game. :D

Hello all,

Thanks Doc...loved it.

So the "Yankers Wang" got banged around like the only whore at a navy base on pay day...epic. They are still 6 Games out, and will now have to face the horns of the league instead of the tail. I wonder what will happen to opposition pitch counts and Yankers' batting averages now...hmmmmm...lol. Well, the time for the NYBBC (New York Billionaire Boys Club) to make great gains in the standings against an easy schedule is over. The stream is reversing and now the Sox will soon have it easier. Oh we don't know what will happen. But I would rather be facing an easier schedule while 6 games ahead, than be the Tankees with a tougher schedule while 6 games behind. Geeeee I wonder how much the shell shock will affect "your hurting Wang"...lol. And Clemens is "DUE" to fall apart...again.

Enjoy boys,

Korbel

PS

Hey Joe. t. Regarding your prediction that with, "CY Wang pitching tonight it should cut the lead down to 4 games by the end of the night.:)" WRONG AGAIN! :(

Clemens gets 5 game suspension.....deservedly!

MLB suspended Roger Clemens for 5-games for intentionally hitting Jays' outfielder Alex Rios the other night. Other players (including Pay-Rod) & the managers also got fined. Clemens will miss his next start due to the suspension, which could be very costly to the Yankees in the long run. Oh well....they should have got one of their no-name relievers to hit the Jay player instead.

As I've said of Schilling, "He may be an asshole, but he's our asshole." If the Sox sign Pay-Rod, I'll just have to hold my nose and root for him. Frankly, I'd rather re-sign Lowell, who has one more WS ring than does Mr. April. Mr. April, by the way, is now on pace to hit 51 home runs. In all probability, he'll wind up with about 46-48, not particularly impressive, considering what he did in April. He's now having what would be considered a "very good" season, despite his .240 average since the ASB.

The blog Bronx Banter reviews what the authors call the recently ended "cupcake" portion of the Yankee schedule and express concern for the next three weeks. "Great hitting, questionable pitching. That's not how you beat good teams."

Clemens suspended.

Hey Yankers,

I nearly had an heart attack when I heard Clemens was suspended after deliberately hitting a player in retaliation. Oh NOOOOOOOOO I thought. Is he going to be back in time for the Red Sox to light him up like fireworks on New Years Eve. Ahhhhhhhhh, now I know he will be back in time to play his proper role as the outrageously overpaid batting practice patsy. There's nothing like a hard spanking for a pouty arrogant spoiled rapidly aging rich brat. I just hope he doesn't trip and break a hip or something. So Yankers, please bring Roger. We would love to play...Launch the Rocket. And, please don't pull him out after 1.2 innings. Every batter deserves a chance to see how far a rocket can fly...lol.

Kisses,

Gagne SUCKS!!!

Hello all,

F_cking Gagne SUCKS! With a 5-1 lead in the 8th and one of the greatest bullpens in history fully ready to nail down a great victory, this piss for brains blew it. I have to say that based on his few performances so far...Epstein has made a grievous error. With a 5-1 lead in the 8th the Sox bullpen can't be beat...at least until this boob arrived. I know it's early, but he better get his ass in gear. This was a win without the dud, and he ruined a terrific performance by Matsuzaka. He pitches like a Yanker so far.

Screw him,

Hello Special K,

Yeah I know. Drew made a big mistake. But you would think the pitcher could get an out and keep the runners off the bases in the first place.

SHIT!

Well, Gagne has sucked ever since he won the Cy Young a few years ago. He hadn`t pitched much until this year......he had serious injuries after winning the Cy. Prior to the beginning of the season, there was talk that he wanted to pitch in Toronto. I didn`t mind, as long as they didn`t overpay to get him. I knew of his recent arm problems & the plain fact that he`s sucked since he`s won the Cy. Well, Texas overbid Toronto & i was kind of happy that they did, to be honest. Yes, i do agree with you that Boston might have made a grievous error by obtaining him. I`m actually sorry that the Yankees didn`t get him. It looks like they might have developped a gem in Chamberlain, who pitched great tonight in setting up Mo.

If i were a Sox fan, i`d just hope that acquiring Gagne didn`t wind up blowing the Sox`s chances for the pennant. If i were Francona, i`d be very weary of sending him out there. I`d say he`s up to 2 strikes....one more & he`s out.

I do agree that the signing of J.D. Drew to that large contract might have been one of Theo`s worst moves ever! Other than that trade for that over-the-hill Gagne, of course.

Hughes last night relied more on his curveball and less on his fastball than what I saw in his prior starts. I can only assume this was due to the scouting report the Yankees got on Cleveland. In the case of Peralta, I think he only threw him a few fastballs all night. Hughes changed speeds on his curveballs and also appeared to have different kinds of curve balls. In addition to the "12 to 6", he throws one that looks like a backdoor slider on which he froze Lofton. His control was excellent.

Between Hughes and Chamberlain the Yanks had 10 Ks, and Mo added another in the 9th. Chamberlain came in for the 7th and 8th and was throwing fucken smoke! 98 mph consistently, and when he missed with his fastball, he did not miss by much. He is not wild, like Farnsworth is. I noticed that Joba was getting ahead on counts with the fastball and then dropping an atomic slider on hitters to finish them off. In the 8th inning he struck out the side on 13 pitches! So far he looks like a major improvement over Farnsworth. Hughes has been about what I expected, but Chamberlain is far better than what I expected, so far.

By the ways, Cleveland's defense was awful last night. Peralta has to be the worst shortstop defensively in the American league.

Peralt's fielding statistics show that he should win his second Gold Glove this season. The BP numbers show that his glove saved the Tribe 24 runs last year, compared to Jeter saving the Yankees 5. (Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter's career number is -113.

According to Sterling, Cashman must be credited with ''mightily'' improving the Yanks' bench in recent weeks.
There have been three improvements to the Yankee bench. The first, a minor one, was going from a totally useless backup catcher to a mediocre one. The second was the very good pickup of Wilson Betemit, a quality player and the Yankees third baseman of the future. The third, and biggest, I'd hardly credit to Cashman. That would be the benching of Johnny Damon, making him the highest paid 4th outfielder in the history of the known universe.
