I try doing this every year when the UConn basketball schedule comes out and it's never right. We don't know which teams will get hot and cold and furthermore, there are quite a few games left to play and anything can happen. One thing I am fairly sure of is that the Yankees are not going to be so easily shut down by good pitching, because they are driving up pitch counts in a big way since the All Star break and nobody is good when their pitch count is high. It would not surprise me if the Yankees catch the Red Sox and it also would not surprise me if the Red Sox hold on to the lead as the Sox do have good starting pitching and a solid bullpen. Just too early to tell.
Hello EB,
Now that is a fairly thoughtful analysis. Yes, it's tough for a pitcher to win when the batters are driving up the pitch count. That is something Youkilis has been known for along with a couple of other Sox players. But like Youkilis it gets tough to drive that pitch count up when you face more confident pitchers, and I suspect the much better teams the yankers will soon be facing are going to have much more challenging pitchers.
Hey Joe. t,
Good job by Clemens. That is what he should be doing every time for the salary he makes. Too bad 65-70% of his outings are poor-very bad. Overall, all he is just a very expensive dud.
Bronx cheers,
