Jeter isn't as bad as sox fans make him out to be,
It isn't Sox fans that make Jeter out to be a bad fielder. It's statistical analysts of all stripes.

I would say the Yankees are lucky to be 2-2 at this point, but hopefully this comeback win will light a fire under the team.
I wouldn't say lucky, Beav. The Yankees have a loaded offense. They have, however, now played 4 games at home against two of the 4 truly bad teams in the American League, scored 7.25 runs per game, yet split the four.

Well, I wouldn't say Tampa Bay has bad positional players. Dukes, Young, and Upton are all bright young talents, and Baldelli, if he can stay healthy, is a terrific all around player. Crawford is a nice player, and so is their shortstop, whose name escapes me. Gomes is a "feast or famine" type hitter in the mold of Greg Vaughn (a first ballot selection to the Dave Kingman "feast or famine" Hall of Fame, which also includes players like Rob Deer and Gorman Thomas).

However, outside of Kazmir, the D Rays don't have much pitching, and as you said the bullpen is a batting practice operation.

-I am changing my MVP prediction pick from Frank Thomas to A-Rod.

- Dont worry about the Yankees pitching Beav because CY Wang will be back soon and Hughes is on his way along with Clemens, also Cashman has the green light and a blank cheque for aquisitions while it is sink or swim for the Red Sox as they are stuck with what they got, also Ortiz is off to a god awful start batting a pathetic 1.58 and it looks like he wont even come close to last year's numbers(my prediction)

Yes, and Cashman for Executive of the Year, Torre for Manager of the Year, Mattingly for Bench Coach of the Year, the Yankee batboy for Batboy of the Year, the ball girl on the right field line for ball girl of the year, and, of course, Joe.T the perennial moron of the year from Moron of the Year once again.

Your intellect show, you fucken moron. It would be fabulous if Ortiz were hitting 1.58, but, sadly, such is impossible. He is, in fact, hitting .158. I wouldn't expect him to match last years numbers any more than I would expect Jeter or Cano to match last year's numbers. While each is likely to have a fabulous year, what they did last year is unlikely to be reproduced.

Yes, Beav, Dukes, Upton, and Young are all fabulous looking young talents, but none has yet shown that he can hit at the major league level. Zobrist, however, is not really expected to be much of an offensive force, but more a glove man. I expect that all will be better players in 2008 than in 2007, and better in September than now.

I'd hardly call Crawford a "nice" player. He's one of the very best players in all of baseball.

Yes, Joe, the Sox should be terribly worried about Ortiz
Yes, terribly worried. Neither of his home runs tonight went any where near 400 feet.

Check out who the very knowledgable Rosenthal is picking for AL MVP this year but i think that he is going out on limb with his rookie of the year prediction.
The last thing I'd call Ken Rosenthal is "knowledgable" but, regardless, this link takes us to an article on the awesome show put on last night by Papelbon and Ortiz. So which of those two does Rosenthal pick for MVP?

Personally, I think that A-Rod will put up MVP numbers in his last year as a Yankee, but will fall short in the voting as the voters tend to penalize players on teams that don't make the post-season.

It is a video interview, the link is in the boxed text on the bottom right under the title Rosenthal's AL predictions:rolleyes:

Ponson's Ass is Kicked

The Yankees kicked Sidney Ponson's ass - 10 hits and 8 runs in 5.1 innings - and with this 8-1 lead they can maybe pitch Pavano another 2 innings and finally give the bullpen some rest. It's amazing to me that teams keep giving Ponson a shot. He doesn't look like he is in any better shape than he was with the Yankees last year and was sweating profusely in the 2nd inning.

A-Rod now has 5 homers in 6 games, to go with 13 RBIs.

Dice K vs. Ichiro Tomorrow Night on ESPN

ESPN is doing a very good job hyping Wednesday's matchup between Matsuzaka and Ichiro: Japan's finest pitcher against its most difficult hitter.
The country of Japan has its most eagerly anticipated matchup since Godzilla faced off against Mothra.

Who will win the matchup?

1. Ichiro will get collared, Dice K wins
2. Ichiro 1 hit with one or more strikeouts, edge to Dice K
3. Ichiro 1 hit with contact made in all at bats, edge to Ichiro
4. Ichiro, 2 or more hits, Ichiro wins

This game is Wednesday, Beav. Matsuzaka also draws King Felix. Tomorrow afternoon's home opener features Beckett and Jeff Weaver.

Dunno the extent of Mussina's injury, but it looks like he's only gonna miss one start, next Tuesday. Rasner is expected to fill in for him.
That's what he says. Over at rotoworld, they ain't buying it. Expect the Yanks to be cautious with him as it's only April. I'd be surprised if we don't see a brief stint on the DL.

The schedule favors the Yanks here as they have a fair number of reasonably spread out offdays the rest of this month and they shouldn't need a fifth starter. Of course, with Mussina out, they have Pettitte and a bunch of guys who I wouldn't want as my fifth starter. They'll keep winning, but there will be a lot of 9-7 games.

Gooseballs!

Does someone know if Ron Cey recovered from that fastball Rich Gossage threw to his head?

Having watched all 3 teams play over the past two weeks, i know it's still very early into the season, but i'm starting to think that the Jays actually have a great chance of winning the division pennant. Both the Yankees & Red Sox actually look quite beatable & what surprised me the most is the lack of depth on the Yankees pitching staff. And all along, i thought the Jays' achilles heel was their pitching.....but it's far from being worse than the Yankees'. I'd say the same thing about Boston's pitching staff, but as long as Papelbon stays healthy & continues to throw the ball as hard as he's been throwing up to now, their pitching altogether is more than adequate.
Noticed you wrote that, Doc, back when the Jays were in first, early this afternoon. The Red Sox have now allowed 28 runs in 10 games, a pace they certainly can't maintain. They're in first after just 10 games, despite the fact that neither Manny nor Papi are hitting a lick.

Yes, the Jays are good team, as the Yanks may be if they can ever find some pitching, but if Matsuzaka, Schilling, and Beckett have the kind of seasons they're off to, they'll be leaving the pack in the dust quite quickly.

As I type this, the Yanks are down 3-0, thanks to 3 unearned runs brought about by yet another error by Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter. His defense has already cost the Yanks one game, E-Rod's another. You absolutely can't win a division giving away games with your leather right and left.
