but Lugo and Crisp have both been awful

Dice-K doesn't worry me. To me there's some parallel between him this year and Beckett last year...he'll improve and 7-5, 4.52 isn't too bad anyway

You can also add Drew who has been a complete bust and another blunder by Epstoned who is probably saying to himself "damn i knew i should not have got this guy"

And yes i would be worried about Dice($102 million dollars, 4.52 ERA)k.

yes rumples i know im a moron, idiot blah blah blah etc!!!

As opposed to a washed up redneck making $28 million for a very mediocre 1/2 season? That's a deal!!

You've never spoken truer words Mr.t!

You sure you didnt mean 6 games ahead.:)

Down to 8.5 games and counting my good man.
As we know, the baseball season is a marathon and teams will have ups and downs. The 2007 Red Sox, over the first six weeks of the season, opened an 8.5 game lead on the Yankees by May 14. The Sox then had two hot weeks, followed by the Yanks having two hot weeks. In the last month, the two teams have played exactly even.

One place I wouldn't want to be is at the tail end of a hot streak and still waaaay behind.

Bring on the Mets!

Its bring on the fucking Mets and not bring on the Mets, RC is going to absolutley destroy them tomorrow and make the winning streak 10 you just watch.

Beckett got smashed tonight and looked like the Beckett of last year, the gopher balls are starting to fly out, the slide has begun.

Mo Pena, Mirabelli, Hinske, three guys that can't even hit thier weight, this should be a big concern for the Red Sox as Youkilis and Lowell are no where as good as they are playing and will slow down big time just like they did last year, Epstoned has done a lousy job of preparing this team, they better pray that nothing happens to thier star players injury wise or they will be in big big trouble.

Expected reply from the delusional rumples-

-Joe you are a fucking-?
-Joe you are a ignorant-?
-Joe it just shows what a-?
-Etc, etc, etc.

They have quite a good bench, considerably better than the Yankees. While Alex Cora isn't a great hitter, he plays both middle infield positions well. There is no aspect of the game at which he isn't better by light years than, for example, Miguel Cairo.

Wily Mo Pena is a work in progress. He can't field, he can't hit breaking pitches. For some reason, pitchers forget this and occasionally throw him fastballs. Those he hits a mile.

Eric Hinske is a decent player, not great by any stretch of the imagination, but he's suffering from the lack of playing time.

The Yankees, on the other hand, have no bench. With their bullpen in shambles, they are carrying 13 pitchers, leaving room for three bench players. These are Miguel Cairo, Wil Nieves, and some guy I never heard of named Chris Basak, whom, I presume, is making $3 M per year.

Clemens pitched better than I thought he would against the Mets. I guess the lucky bastard can afford to buy HGH from Giambi, huh?
The Mets have been in a team wide slump. Since the first of June, they've scored 3 runs or less in 10 of their 13 games. I'd hoped that facing Fatboy, they'd come out of it, but twas not to be.

Hey, we picked up another game in the standings. For me that's the bottom line.

I'm going to be watching Barry and the Giants live at Fenway today. Let's hope Daisuke has his good stuff.

That would depend on what you're smoking, Joe apparently has gotten his hands on the very best.

Let's be honest. The Yankees are red hot and show no signs of cooling down. The Red Sox are playing well again and their bats show signs of heating up again. Manny has his home run swing back.

This is going to be a horse race for the rest of the year, because both teams seem to have settled into a pattern of winning ball. Personally, I'd rather be 8 1/2 games up than 8 1/2 games back!

Hate to admit it, but Wang was brilliant last night...even had 10ks which is unusual for him. Maybe he's getting that HGH from Giambi, A-Rod and Clemens...

Actually i heard that he got it from big Papi and Manny.

btyger- When the Red Sox lead gets down to one game i will take you up on your bet offer, what do say you pal of mine? i need the money to pay rumples just in case i run in to him in about 2 years.:D

Well, the Messiah didn't make it out of the fifth today. The fat, old, broken down redneck is now sporting a 4.86 ERA and is well on his way to a 1-2 record as the Yankees fade further back in the rear view mirror.

$28,000,000 sure doesn't buy what it used to.

Meanwhile, the good ship Tavarez just keeps sailing along.

I'm guessing the Giambi affair is turning out to be a significant distraction to the team?
I highly doubt they're paying much attention. A much bigger distraction is the simple fact that they suck. Roger Clemens is a washed up waste of $20,000,000, they're still on the hook for $32,500,000 for two and a half more years of the corpse of Johnny Damon.

The simple fact is the pitching is thin, the bullpen sucks, and Jeter, Posada, Matsui, and Pay-Rod can't carry the offense by themselves.

After two weeks of beating up on some terrible teams: Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh, Arizona and the slumping Mets, it's time to come back to reality.

The Yanks should have signed Julian Tavarez when they had the chance.

So, Joe, who do ya think is gonna win the Rookie of the Year award? Seems to me the candidates are:

Matsuzaka: 9 wins
Okajima: 1.01 ERA, 4 saves
Pedroia: .323 BA, .854 OPS

My candidate is kei Igawa
I'm not a big fan of making silly predictions, like Joe.T, who insists on looking foolish at every opportunity, but I'm going out on a limb on this one. I boldly predict that Kei Igawa will, before the season's end, get his ERA under 7.00.
