Sounds like a jealous habs fan to me :lol: This is NOT the first time the Leafs have been compared to the Yankees and wont be the last, deal with it. The Leafs are all class like the Yanks while the habs are more like the red sox of baseball, minus having won more championships than the sox ever will.
Another Burke dud trade that smacks of desperation - Flyers win this one. Wasn’t Schenn supposed to be the future Leaf captain? Schenn might have had his confidence broken while playing for a prick coach like Wilson (Burke’s buddy) but wasn’t he supposed to be a core piece for the Leafs for many seasons?
Schenn is another in a long line of promising defensemen the Leafs have either ruined or run out of town. Toronto captain Celine Dion should be happy.Calgary was desperate to get rid of Celine because he caused friction among the players and was a disruption in the dressing room. Celine is doing the same in Toronto as he didn’t get along with ‘future captain’ Schenn.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers have announced that James Van Riemsdyk will not need surgery on his injured hip. First, the Flyers announced on May 19th that James Van Riemsdyk would need off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip
......Van Riemsdyk had chosen to delay surgery, which was making it difficult for the Flyers to include him in a trade. In response to that report, general manager Paul Holmgren said the delay in Van Riemsdyk's hip surgery was due to an infection in his foot.
The Flyers reported the following today:
After consultation with various doctors regarding James' hip injury, we have come to the conclusion that surgery is not necessary. We will treat James hip with alternative therapies and non-surgical procedures.

New to the list is Philadelphia Flyers winger James van Riemsdyk, whose concussion was announced in a statement by general manager Paul Holmgren.
"James was hit in the head in each of our last two games," his statement read. "He reported yesterday, not feeling like himself. He will be out indefinitely with a concussion."
Mar 1, 2012 -Thursday's game against the Islanders, James Van Riemsdyk attempted to block a shot and broke his foot, according to Philly.com.
Van Riemsdyk, 23, has had a very injury-plagued season. He missed 15 games earlier in the season after suffering a concussion and five more with an abdominal issue

Sorry Ghg, your hockey IQ obviously needs some upgrades. The trade was a very very good trade for both teams as it improves positional needs for both the Flyers and Leafs, more so the Leafs and this is why:
I watched Luke in 95% of his games in his pro career and he is too slow for the new NHL and the way the NHL is going moving forward. Look at all the D-men picked in the first round of the draft this weekend, which btw was a record for dmen selected in round one. All but Trouba are fast puck moving dmen who are great on the first pass out of their zone , fast, and have high hockey IQ's.... did i mention FAST? The day of the huge slower stay at home dmen is slowly fading out and being replaced with smaller (some still big) yet FASTER and SMARTER Dmen who can rush up with the offense yet are FAST enuf to get back and defend, and clear the zone quicker than the stay at home guys. A typical dman to describe this is Jake Gardiner.
JVR according to flyer fans has all the talent and potential in the world and many are pissed he was moved for "only" Schenn. After the weekend, it's not hard to say they're sour, with gusts to out-and-out dislike.
That's okay. GMs who don't like each other can do hockey deals, and part of the weekend was spent by both men trying to see if they can work out a trade that would move Roberto Luongo and his enormous contract into the Leaf tent.

Nothing happened, and Burke's comments that he wasn't going to "strip-mine" his organization to get a goalie without mentioning Luongo specifically suggested Gillis is asking for a lot more than Burke -- or anybody -- is willing to give. Only Florida is also in the mix, it appears, which works for Luongo since it's his first choice.
Gillis says he's in no hurry. Well, he might want to re-think that.
There's one card Burke could play, one that would turn relations between the two clubs downright ugly.
The Leafs GM could lay down a huge, multi-year, multimillion offer sheet next Monday for the other Vancouver goalie, 26-year-old restricted free agent Cory Schneider, the Canucks goalie every team would rather get if they had a choice.
That wouldn't get them Schneider; Vancouver would have to match rather than accept multiple first rounders from Toronto.
But it would force Vancouver's hand in the same way San Jose forced Chicago to let Antti Niemi go a few years ago by signing Niklas Hjalmarsson. Let's say the Schneider offer was eight years for $40 million. The Canucks would be stuck with more than $10 million in annual goalie costs, with both at lengthy terms. The Leafs could also, if they wanted, load the deal with so-called "lockout" money, say $15 million in the first year that would be Schneider's even if there's a lockout next season.
TORONTO ONLY LOGICAL DESTINATION FOR LUONGO
If you're the Leafs, why not? Worst thing that could happen is you might actually get Schneider, or that the Canucks might poach Leaf RFAs down the line.
Otherwise, these two teams don't like each other anyway. Might as well play hardball.

Interesting read to say the least..... Can not understand why nuck fans think Gillis is such a great gm, when in fact Burke/Nonis built most of that team and their amazing core. Would love to see Gillis take little in return for Luongo wherever he goes.
Well, it's official, blue chipper Justin Schultz is now a Free Agent and free to sign anywhere he likes July 1 as the Ducks were unable to sign him by sunday. It is like getting a #1 draft pick for whomever he chooses to play for. Good luck JS.

The Vancouver Canucks goaltender has refused to waive his no-trade clause for deals that would see him shipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post-Dispatch.
"Told by very good source #Canucks G Roberto Luongo has -- to this point -- declined to waive no-trade clause to go to #Blackhawks or #Leafs," Portzline tweeted Monday. "Luongo using the power of his no-trade to 'steer' a trade to #Panthers as much as possible at this point in off-season."
Canucks coach Alain Vigneault told TVA Sports in May that Luongo had requested a trade from the club.
The rise of backup Cory Schneider, who took over starting duties in net mid-way through Vancouver's first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings -- a series the Canucks ended up losing -- this spring, has opened the door for such a deal.
Schneider is a pending restricted free agent while Luongo has 10 years left on a 12-year, $64-million contract.

Yea your right, I mean what good is having an elite goalie in his prime now for 2-3 seasons but also with a solid 3 or 4 more good seasons left after that

I agree with you, except for your comparison to Merlot. I'm comfortable having Reimer & Scrivens between the pipes. Instead of the usual 35-40 shots-against-per-game, those totals will go down with Carlyle's system. I'll agree that Luongo might be a slight improvement between the pipes over the two mentionned, but considering his huge contract, it's not worth it & they might as well invest the money saved on obtaining a couple of top forwards, including a #1 center to play with Kessel & Lupul.
Ty about the comparison, wth was i thinking? For that , SHOOT me! All kidding aside, I am ok either way.... Roberto Luongo guarantees us easily 15 more points than last year, and a better defensive system that RC will put into place also should easily give the Leafs 5-10 more points with Roberto or Reimer/Scrivens, so why I would welcome RL with open arms, I will also be ok if we do not get him which is likely whats going to happen. There are also others that Burke could trade for or sign with my fav being HALAK, but that is not likely either.

In other news, the Pittsburgh Penguins & Sidney Crosby will announce Saturday that he's agreed to a $100 million deal. Considering that he's the sole reason why the Penguins have a new arena (and possibly still in Pittsburgh), i think he's the rare hockey player that deserves such a contract.
