An excellent low risk signing at a good price.

Ray Whitney signs with Dallas for $9 million/2 years

Hard to believe that a 40 year old can manage to get such a big contract, but why should i be surprised considering that Bob Gainey is back with the Stars?

I would be ASTONISHED if Detroit misses the playoffs, in spite of losing the second greatest d-man of all time. They still have Pavel Datsyuk, the most skilled player in the world...and perhaps even more importantly they have Ken Holland, the second greatest general manager of all time.

Kenny Holland is SO good that he could probably even get the woeful LEAFS into the playoffs if - Heaven forbid! - he ever replaced the tragically incompetent Brian "Never Met a Meal He Didn't Like" Burke. Of course, to do so, Kenny would have to replace the ENTIRE Leaf team starting with its captain, the reigning two-time most overrated player in the NHL as voted by the players themselves.

Thank Heaven that the NIGHTMARE of Kenny leaving Hockeytown and going to Hogtown will never come to pass!

When did this become the Nhl offseason Free For All threa? Why cant you ever post normal in non S**T Disturbing threads cairo? Your hate and bias is causing you unneeded stress which one day will lead to a stroke or a heart attack.

Pure hypocrisy,

One member making three personal attacks to complain about another member "disturbing" who was 100% on sports...on subject...and wrote nothing personal about a board member.

Mods - just posting after wondering why it's works this way? I mean, whats the excuse now that no one is bothering Iggy, but he still can't help with the same old shit.

Habs have signed two more players:

Francis Bouillon for one year at $1.5....and Brandon Prust at supposedly $10 for 4 years. Good for Bouillon, but they overpaid for Prust, who was a fourth-liner with the Rangers. Habs appear to have a knack to overpay ex-Rangers. Prust had 5 goals & 12 assists in 82 games with the Rangers last season.

I agree that it's stupid money for a 40-year old player. What i've been hearing is that Parise is hoping to cash-in on two huge signing bonuses, on top of being one of the top 3 paid players in hockey. Philly & Minnesota have joined LA in trying to lure him to their respective teams. I've been told that a decision should be made tomorrow.

Wrong thread merlot for more of your typical "i can do it but you cant" posts, as usual people can not follow the rules, THUS we have the free for all thread. I was simply pointing it out, dont shoot the messenger BUT instead, why dont you join us on this free agent frenzy day with your thoughts on all the signings and trades going on? Please discuss this great sport with us. We welcome you to talk REAL hockey talk here.

Prust just signed with Habs, 4 years 10 mil.....too much money but this is what happens with Free Agents that many teams want. Makes the habs slightly better.

Thank you Octavian for posting the excellent article by Mark Spector.

It accurately points out that the problem is not the Burke family history (his deceased son) and Brian's resulting passionate commitment to the gay community but rather the fact that he has totally failed in his loudly stated objectives to bring the Toronto Maple Leafs to even the minimum level of NHL respectability.

If Burke had succeeded in doing what he was hired to do, Leaf fans would not be abandoning their team in droves and they would not be complaining about their GMs huge involvement in the gay world. Sadly for Burke - and even more so for all the frustrated fans and former fans of the Leafs - his failures as GM have led to the loss of his professional reputation as well as the erosion of his personal one.

Now the REAL pressure is on him, lets see how he handles it.

What does pK get? He will be overpaid likely. He should get 2-3 mil per but will likely get 4 or more per.

Hey ! where are the posts on "Martin Brodeur could be the next Leafs messiah..." ?

Gladly, staying with New Jersey for the next 2 years now !

I didn't want him with the Leafs. He looked old & finished in the first half of last season, played pretty good in the second half, and looked awful at times during the playoffs. The only one out there i might want the Leafs to take a chance on is Tim Thomas, but his heart isn't in the game & he'd likely only want to play for the Bruins (or not play at all). Maybe Jose Theodore if Florida ever wound up with that overrated & overpaid Luongo, but who knows....

I wouldn't mind Jonathan Bernier with the Leafs, but he'd probably be too expensive to get & i think the Kings would prefer hanging on to him. However, i recently heard that his agent asked Dean Lombardi to trade him. Considering the $$ they just threw at Jonathan Quick, there's no way Bernier has a chance of ever starting in LA.

Considering the habs are in full control of PK's destiny (he's got no arbitration rights) right now, they'd be foolish to overpay him. He's not even Montreal's best defenceman & he's prone to making too many defensive mistakes when he's on the ice.

I am glad Burke and Nonis did not get involved yesterday in grossly overpaying. So far the Leafs have added a young, big, fast and so very skilled former 2nd overall pick in JVR whom the sky is the limit and should blossom under Carlyle and getting top minutes and first PP time. Jay McClement was the other addition and while many might say "who?" He is a effective guy who goes about his business very well, He is one of the better penalty killers in the NHL and can chip in 20 plus points playing on the third line where he is not known for his scoring ability but will be a key on the Leafs 3rd line, (as well as the PK) or shut down line if you will where he will go against other teams top lines night after night and from what Av's fans are saying, he took a million less to go to the leafs to play on the third line than staying with them to play less minutes on the 4th line this coming season. Also a very very good character guy who wore a "A" on his jersey. All in all a GREAT cap hit of only 1.5 mil per and a good ole Kingston boy, that should shut up Don Cherry a little.

Ollie Jokinen just signed for two years in Winnipeg for $9 million!!! Ouch!!!
