True but anyone can get injured, i seem to remember McDavid getting his collarbone (i think that was it) broke last year and was out for many many games costing him the calder trophy. Nothing is a given.
Nobody said Crosby is not the best player but to win the scoring title you need to play 80 games and that isn't happening for Crosby, look at his track record and he is not a year younger this year.

Look behind you.
Winnipeg will be a much improved team this year, both Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine are lighting up the scoreboards, plus Nikolaj Ehlers and Blake Wheeler are in the top 30.

Absolutely true. Even Carey Price got hurt & the habs tanked for the rest of the season after a great start to the season.

I agree. But with the Jets, it's not the offense that worries me. It's the defence and i still have question marks in regards to the goaltending.

Like to get in on the Jets talk. With Trouba signed that solidified the defence and they have a guy in the minors who they can call up. They will be a strong contender in the west.

My guess is that Trouba won't be there next season. They're probably currently shopping him around since he doesn't want to play there. But re-signing him to a multi-year contract likely made it easier for them to trade him. Having him un-signed and the entire world knowing he didn't want to play there made trading him virtually impossible.

I'm also not that certain Paul Maurice is the guy to lead them to greener pastures.

He was Trouba from the time he walked in the door.......................

Is Mitch Marner one fantastic talent or what? The Patrick Kane comparisons are looking pretty good so far in his early career. Another 3 points tonight and now leads the Leafs with 15 points.

I see the Oilers have come back down to earth with there 4th consecutive loss tonight and Carey Price was torched for 4 goals in the 2nd loss in a row for the local team.

Rangers another 7 goals!!!! What is going on with them lol.

The key protagonists in the Rangers' latest outburst of goals were JT Miller and Kevin Hayes, who have 17 and 16 points respectively in 17 games. There have been a number of 5 goal plus explosions by the Rangers this year, which is amazing because just 2-3 years ago they could not score any goals at all. I saw them get beat by the Habs in Montreal around 3 years ago where the entire game they had like one scoring chance and they got shutout.

As of this writing the Rangers have scored 72 goals and nobody else in the NHL even has 60. It's because of guys like Miller and Hayes, who are young, big and strong. Hayes is a monster on skates. This Rangers team is a major threat to win the Stanley Cup.

Look at these goals, quick, precision guided missiles:

It's not easy for the eastern conference teams to go out to the west coast and not just win but really kick some ass. I just think these guys take very seriously the jersey they are wearing and what it means to be a Ranger.

I know the season is early but who would have seen Ottawa (6th) and new jersey (5th) up there now? Of course the habs first is also impressive, but even if I am a total habs fan, they do not belong there at all.

With all the new young player performing so good I think we are on par with one of the greatest season ever! My predicitions, a Rangers / Chicago final, which the Rangers will win :)

Cheers,

Plus/minus is so overrated that it shouldn't even be a stat. Don't believe me ask a guy who knows more about hockey than anyone around here, Doc "love em and leave em" Holliday

I like the plus/minus which is recognized as a leading official stat. It tells you whether it's a net positive or a net negative when any one guy is on the ice.

The NBA now maintains the same stat. LeBron James's plus/minus stats are incredible and are regularly off the charts. It's because he is a 2 way player who wreaks havoc on defense and punishes teams with his powerful moves on offense.

it is more of a team stat than individual because you are relying heavily on the play of your 5 other teammates. Put 6 great players on the ice at once and good things usually happen however put 5 terrible players on the ice with JT Milller and watch what happens to that plus/minus. It is not only a flawed stat but a boring one as well. Goals, Assists and Save %, now those are sexy stats.

You're absolutely correct and i'd even add that this stoopid statistic not only relies very heavily on your five other teammates (incl. goalie) on the ice, but also on which players on the opposing team who happen to be on the ice at the same time.

Teams with great goalies (Carey Price, King Henrik, etc) will often have players which lead the league in plus/minus. Same thing with high-scoring teams. Teams with crappy goaltenders usually won't have players among the plus/minus leaders.

This statistic was created by hockey agents & NHL GMs in order for them to use as leverage in player contract negotiations.

It's one of the most misleading statistic in all of professional sports and i never use it in my arguements since i feel i'd sound like an idiot. I haven't played hockey in 40 years and i can bet i could have a pretty good plus/minus if i was paired with Shea Webber and playing in front of Carey Price.
