Great game, a little more experience from the Leafs and they win that game and still would have had vintage Carey Price not been there but happy for the point. Auston Matthews with 2 more goals and leading the way for rookie of the year. Scary how good he is and will be, only a teenager and dominating in the NHL, not many can do that.

Look behind you.
The Canadians will not make the playoffs .

The Canadians will make the playoffs, how far they go depends if they get on a hot streak or not, they proved that they can play great.

A cup? No. It takes a lot to win the cup, being a good team for one year does not make a good team, look at Calgary 2014-2015, look at them the years before and after.
They should be in the running for the cup but the final game probably not for a few years. They are playing extremely well but I would like to see back to back seasons before I get too excited.
Same with my Oilers, hope they make a good run this year but do not expect a cup.

He is tied with Laine and has played 6 more games, not leading the way.

That is true. Laine is quite phenomenal. A perfect sniper. But Maththews is a even more global player. In a few years I expect him to become much more important for his team then Laine is for the Jets.

But that said, my pick for rookie of the year would be Werenski. Since when we had a defense rookie of the year? Pronger maybe? Such a rarety.

I agree with your statement. No doubt that Laine is already a great sniper. But he's been lucky to be playing all season long alongside veterans who feed him the puck.

Matthews has played with rookies all season long and has already scored 30 goals, which is astonishing considering he had a 13-game goal slump earlier in the season. Its even more astonishing considering he's known to be more of a playmaker than a scorer, yet the players he's played with have had trouble scoring, especially Zack Hyman who can't finish even if his life would depend on it.

Personally, Matthews winning the Calder would be nice & he deserves it. But as a true Leafs fan, i prefer he not win it since it doesn't really mean anything and all it'll do is hurt the team cap-wise due to the bonus he'd receive by winning the trophy. I also don't think he cares much about winning the Calder. I'm sure he cares a bit, but fans probably care more than he does. And like i said, the best thing for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization is that Laine wins it instead of him.

Trivia question: "Who's the last Montreal Canadiens player to win the Calder??"

See the first 2 paragraphs of Doc's post, he nails it about why Matthews is much more in the lead for the Calder than stats show. Complete player versus a one dimensional sniper.

Watch Mattews when he is on defense and how he is relentless trying to get the puck away from the defender, it is nothing short of amazing. Barring injury the calder is his if he is within 5-6 points of rookie scoring and if he ends the season with most points among rookies then forget about it.

Ben Bishop traded to LA Kings

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded goaltender Ben Bishop and a fifth round pick in the 2017 draft to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goaltender Peter Budaj, defenceman Erik Cernak, a 7th round pick in the 2017 NHL draft and a conditional pick in the same draft.

Good trade for both teams. Had Bishop remained with TB, he likely would have been scooped up by the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the upcoming expansion draft.

Good trade.

Also another strong point why Matthews would be favored right now for the Calder is his position, playing centre is a much harder and demanding position to play because of defensive responsibility, (which Auston excels at), faceoffs and the overall trust a centreman is looked upon for.

More trades......

-Martin Hanzal, Ryan White & a 4th-round pick to Minnesota for Grayson Downing, a first-round pick, a 2nd-round pick and conditional picks.
-Brian Boyle traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Byron Froese & a 2nd-round pick in the upcoming draft.
-Kevin Shattenkirk to Washington for a 2017 first-round pick, prospects (Sanford & Malone) and a conditional picks.
-Alexandre Burrows to Ottawa for Jonathan Dahlen. The Sens then signed Burrows to a 2-year extension.
-Jordie Benn & his beard to the Montreal Canadiens for Greg Pateryn, a 4th-round pick & Greg Pateryn's bigot wife.

We're now also hearing that Detroit has traded Brendan Smith to the NY Rangers. I'm hearing for a 2nd & a 3rd rounder.

Washington and the Leafs made out the best!

I also like Ottawa picking up Burrows and re-signing him for another two years. They'll be nasty to play against!

And kudos to the habs for trading Mrs Pateryn and getting back a decent player for her. To be honest, i wouldn't have minded seeing Jordie Benn on the Leafs' blueline.

I agree. The habs are quite a soccer team!! Why does Mtl bother having the Impact?

Last night, the habs beat the Jackets 1-Nil in extra time after both teams went scoreless for 60 minutes. Striker Alex Galchenyk got the winning goal. When it's not Pacioretty scoring, it's the other striker.

As a Leafs fan i LOVE what Ottawa did LOL!

Sens fans i have read are mostly in agreement that it was a horrible deal for them, especially the 2 year extension for a guy who is 36 years old, pretty much washed up and $5 million.

The young guy they gave up is lighting up the swedish league as well and was thought of to be one of their better prospects, FOR BURROWS!!!!

Jordie Benn in Greg Patyrn 2.0 nothing more nothing less.
