Entire Red Wings team could be traded
by Michael Hunt, Detroit Chronicle
Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland promised his late boss one thing before he passed away last week: "Mr. Illitch, if i have to trade the entire team in order to build a winner, i promise you that i will."
Earlier today, Holland sent the underachieving Tomas Jurco packing to the Chicago Blackhawks and promised more moves are to come. When asked how far he's willing to go in order to rebuild the team, Holland replied that if it were up to him, he'd trade the entire team. When asked how far he'd be willing to go, Holland replied: "Just watch me."
The Red Wings have been among one of the worse teams in the NHL this season and are nearly guaranteed to miss the playoffs. But let's face it: they were lucky to even get into the playoffs over the past several years and this has only slowed down a much-needed rebuilding project.
When asked where it went all wrong, Holland told the media: "Let me be entirely honest with you. The fact Mr. Illitch passed away last week and is not longer among us allows me to once and for all be entirely truthful with you guys. The day we lost the great Mike Babcock was the day where things started to nose dive for this organization. This is the truth." When asked if this meant that current coach Jeff Blashill may get axed following this current season, Holland replied: "Who knows? I may wake up tomorrow and decide that Blashill's days with the Wings are over."
Holland also speculated that his own days with the organization may be coming to an end. "Maybe it's time to look elsewhere once this awful season comes to an end. Maybe it's time for new blood to come in with an entire different outlook than mine. I have grandkids at home that i barely know and Mr. Illitch's passing made me realize that life is short."
