Tiga brings up an important point as far as injuries. Teams have to be careful in the salary cap era about investing significant money in guys who are not durable. Hockey is a sport where (as the Lightning have had happen with Stamkos 2 years in a row) injuries can have a devastating impact. Especially later in the year. It makes sense to invest cheaply in young and talented and durable players and spend as little as possible on older veterans who are shot. I agree with Iggy that the Habs are a 1-2-3 team which is a team that rolls the dice on staying healthy. Last year they lose Price and there was a huge downward spiral. This year if they have great health at the time of the playoffs they could make a deep run and be tough to beat. The Eastern Conference has several other very good teams. Health is huge.

All the team said was that he'd get re-evaluated in Montreal. He's got a right knee injury. It's the same knee he had total reconstruction done on in 2011. No one wants him to miss the season and have it re-operated on again. He and Radulov are a perfect match and have carried the team on their backs offensively throughout the season.
Montreal Canadiens star forward Alex Galchenyuk out three months with torn ACL

ST LOUIS --- The Montreal Canadiens have announced that star high-scoring forward will be out for at least three months with a torn ACL. Galchenyuk was examined by Dr. James Andrews and it was decided that he will undergo major knee surgery within the next few days to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is expected to recover completely and possibly be back in action if the Canadiens make the playoffs.
Galchenyuk suffered a similar injury back in 2011 while playing for the Sarnia Sting and required major right knee reconstruction surgery. He suffered the injury when he accidently collided with Los Angeles star forward Anze Kopitar during the third period of last Sunday's game in Los Angeles.
Unless the team makes a trade to fill in for Galchenyuk, David Desharnais is expected to take up his spot on the top line. Daniel Carr has been called up to take up Galchenyuk's spot on the roster.

Two important statistical notes tonight, first Patrik Laine has scored his 17th goal to tie Sid Crosby for the NHL lead, second is that the Wild's monster 6'6" goalie Devan Dubnyk has taken over 1st in the NHL in both of the all important goalie stat categories- GAA and save %. Amazing that suggest a big dude can move his tuckus around in the net. Or is he just good at being a big obstruction?
He played on the first line tonight until he had to leave the game due to injury during the third period. His status for their next game is unknown.
By the way, the Rangers lost to the Islanders. Some speculated it could have been Jack Capuano's last game behind the Isles bench had they lost tonight. The Isles have slumped badly throughout the season. But they seemed to have put in quite an effort against the rival Rangers.
The Habs are yet to release a complete statement on the injurees on AG27 and DD, let's hope the pr people have learned something from last year and Bergevin shall be more forthcoming then they were regarding Price.

I see no way Galchenyuk will be back this year with an ACL tear. The UConn men's basketball team just lost their two best players in consecutive games to an ACL tear and a dislocated shoulder. Both are out for the season and Larrier who suffered the ACL tear will need 6-9 months to recover. You can't play hockey again this year with that injury and surgery by Dr. Andrews. Andrews will tell him to hang up the skates until next year.

BROSSARD --- Many were surprised to see goalie Al Montoya between the pipes in St-Louis last night. Montoya usually only plays in back-to-back games when the Montreal Canadiens are on the road. But it came as a surprise last night since the Canadiens' next game is only on Thursday night against the visiting New Jersey Devils.
We've since learned that Price has been suffering from inflammation in his right knee over the past week and only approached the team doctor about this on Monday morning after practice. Price missed considerable time last season due to ligament problems in his right knee. Team insiders have indicated that there is nothing to worry about and have denied rumours that the problem is a recurrence of what he had last season.
Price has been nothing short of spectacular this season and the Canadiens are off to one of their strongest starts in recent history. But Price has appeared rather ordinary in his past few games, which has concerned a few observers. As of this morning, he is expected to start against the surprising Devils tomorrow. As for the Devils, there is a chance that star forward Taylor Hall may face discipline for a questionable hit he administered last night in a game against the Vancouver Canucks, a game which New Jersey won 3-2.

As of now the only release from the CH has been that Price is this month's winner of the Molson Cup...

He is wasting his time in his current profession which i have told him before. The good Dr. and I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame a few years ago and he did the announcing simulator thing they have there and he was as good as bob cole, dick irvin or foster hewitt!! He also did a piece with Larry Murphy at fan fest in downtown Toronto before the opening of the season and held his own as color commentator. Doc, start your second career now! Life is short!
Thanks my friend and i remember those times really well. It's too bad i lost the audio recording i had of that broadcast i made at the hockey hall of fame. It was a play-by-play of that historical goal scored by Paul Henderson against the USSR back in 1972. I still have that piece i did with Larry Murphy for the NHL Network. I've shown it to a couple of my favorite sps over the years. They thought it was the real deal. lol
I'll be done in my current profession two years from now, max. Maybe a 2nd career in sports journalism is a possibility. Funny it's being mentioned, since i was actually looking at freelancing for a few newspapers just to spend my time and earn a few $$.
p.s. Remind me to show you a picture i took last year of myself sitting inside the habs dressing room and the look i had at the time. People thought i was about to puke! lol
They were originally reporting Galchenyuk's injury as an ACL tear. If he is out only 6-8 weeks that is not what his injury is.
David Desharnais is also out 6-8 weeks...... a team very thin on centre just lost their #1 and #2 centremen for the next 2 months. Price better post a .985 save % every night if the Canadians do not want a repeat of last years monumental and totally epic collapse.
Why does the team use the term "lower-body injury" for Galchenyuk? It's the same phrase that was used for Carey Price last year. It's not a phrase I'm familiar with in US sports, and seems weird and vague. In fact, I'm not sure they ever revealed Price's injury last year. Why don't they just report what Galchenyuk's injury is? I've had my share of knee surgeries and I'm preety preety confident they have this one diagnosed.
