The NHL has different rules on reporting of injuries so opposing teams don't go after a player's specific injured body part, I think is the short answer.

It's not the same in the other sports. When Terry Larrier of UConn tore his ACL, UConn within a day after the MRI reported the ACL tear. Having watched the game and seen he could not put weight on his knee and had to be carried off the court, I knew he had torn ACL or MCL.

They were originally reporting Galchenyuk's injury as an ACL tear. If he is out only 6-8 weeks that is not what his injury is.

It's likely a grade 2 tear, which is only a partial tear and usually doesn't require surgery. Doctors usually recommend a healing period of up to 8 weeks.

Why does the team use the term "lower-body injury" for Galchenyuk? It's the same phrase that was used for Carey Price last year. It's not a phrase I'm familiar with in US sports, and seems weird and vague. In fact, I'm not sure they ever revealed Price's injury last year. Why don't they just report what Galchenyuk's injury is? I've had my share of knee surgeries and I'm preety preety confident they have this one diagnosed.

I read this morning that the team did surprise everyone this time around and told the media that both Galchenyuk and Desharnais would be out 6-8 weeks due to knee injuries.

Rangers Top Blackhawks

Wow what a classic last night with the Rangers beating the Blackhawks 1-0 in OT in Chicago, a matchup of the two teams with the most points in each conference. Watch as Derek Stepan stops on the dime and passes behind his back to the streaking, wide open Nick Holden for the game winning goal:

It's all about teamwork and being a team, getting contributions from many players, many lines, and backup goalies, and the Rangers are showing the rest of the NHL what that means. Rangers now lead the NHL with 39 points and another game with Chicago is on tap Tuesday in New York.

Loved what Price did against the Devils, way to stand-up for yourself!

Hope the league and the refs understand that there is no open season for goalies!

Price is about the only Montreal Player that i like and respect but he at least should have been kicked out of the game for thuggery, unsportsmanlike, or whatever else you want to call it but he totally sucker Punched the guy 4 times. If that happened to a Monteal guy the fans would want the cops called in to arrest the player. Not classy Carey :nono:

Correct he should have been thrown out. That said, all the leagues knows there is good chance of him getting seriously injured if hit on same knee again. There is enough young stupid player to try it and the Habs needs to make absolutely sure it does not happen. The league needs to make sure it's top star (crosby, mcdavid, laine, etc..) do not get injured by reckless no brain c player...

Cheers,

First of all hockey is not a classy sport!
Second, who cares who you like or don't like on the team, you are so biased Igna!
That said, yes hitting the face with the blocker he should have been thrown out, but it had to be done, the refs were so bad that game.
Totally agree with Jalimon the league has to protect the players (even Leaf players).
I'm watching the game right now against the Avalanch and the National Anthem has'nt started, the crowd is allready chanting his name!

I totally agree with you. But he likely won't get anything because he plays for Montreal. There's always been a double-standard for as long as i can remember when it comes to the Mtl Canadiens. Palmieri should file assault charges against Price.

I watched the play all over and Jeff Petrie is as much to blame as Palmieri. Petrie played the role of pylon and in the process wound up pushing Palmieri into Price.

Now 'Kerry' Price has told the entire league that in order to get him to have a meltdown, all they have to do is crash the net. Look out, 'Kerry'!!!! Watch that right knee!! lol

The amazing thing about Price is that it was an out of character thing but I do not think he had a meltdown, he regained his compo just as quick, but after the previous goal, he had to stand up for himself.

This may be the defining moment of this year!

And leading 4-0 right now, this team is pumped and just might be the real.thing!
They are still leading the league with 2 games in hand on the Rangers...

6-0 in the 1st? Wow the Avs really suck moose balls. They should hire Roy back. All he did was say they made some suck-ass trades that lost draft picks and they did.

Yeah there is something wrong with the Avs this year, sadly the next draft this summer will not help them that much with so-so recruits and with Las Vegas probably picking first overall.

Agreed, Roy was/is a great hockey mind. The Avs must have went to Chez Paree last night
