Golden Knights are 2-0 and their offense might be better than you think Gaby. They peppered Raanta with 42 shots last night. They have some good young players, the best of which is that Asian kid, and as the Leafs showed last year, young talent can win in the NHL if combined with good coaching and veteran leadership. Vegas has both elements. They are an above average expansion team.

We will see...i hope for them..i really like this team BUT don't forget they were playing ARIZONA---pas une grande puissance----et les Golden Knights devraient les devancer au classement . They need both Fleury and Neal to avoid injuries and stay in good shape....ils sont les pièces maîtresses de cette jeune équipe.

..and i know a sweet blond Russian girl who is very very happy...

I'm sweet but not a thin blond Russian and i was ecstatic last night after seeing Ovie & the Caps absolutely destroy the habs! ;)

p.s. It was also great to see the Leafs score 8 goals against the Rangers and chase King Henrik after only one period.

I'm intrigued by this game for some of the reasons you mentioned. Many expect a high-scoring game but it wouldn't surprise me if it's the other way around. You never know.

On another note, it's already panic-city in Montreal! Nothing positive about them on the air: they suck, Galchenyuk sucks, Julien's strategy sucks, Streit and Benn suck, Drouin hasn't done anything yet, they're too small, Price has been ordinary, etc. Unbelievable!!! It's only been three games!!!

Still many good tickets available for their opener against Chicago. Maybe people are tired of paying top price for a mediocre team. Parking is now up to $30, beer is $10, food is overpriced, etc. Maybe people have smartened up and will instead go watch the habs in Florida and a fraction of the cost.

Gaby-

The Leafs were bedeviled by Schneider and New Jersey. The Leafs heavily outshot the Jersey boys but basically Schneider showed them who is boss and vastly outplayed his counterpart.

Yes you are right..i think they deliver around 50 shots on Schneider....there are some evenings like that.....and i must admit that the Devils will not b an easy team to play.....

Gaby,

The problem for both the Leafs and the Oilers is the same, is their defense and goaltending championship caliber? You don't like to waste high end offensive talent and see championship opportunities pass by a team because the team hasn't adequately constructed their defensive end of the ice. It also can take time and coaching to develop the young offensive talent into becoming two way players like a Joe Sakic or a Jonathan Toews, and even then they are never as good 2-way as those two.

If you have 50 shots on goal at home, on a slightly above average goalie, and you lose 6-3, that tells me there are too many defensive lapses going on. A team can get so drunk with offensive success after a few high scoring games that they let their defensive guard down and when your defense is average to begin with and you let that guard down, this is what happens.

Gaby, look at the NJ Devils roster and answer me this question: is this a roster that should strike fear into the hearts of goalies and defensemen across the league? A yes or no (oui or non) will suffice.

Comme on dit...as we say...asking the question is answering it.....and it's obvious that their defense is weak...BUT they both have so good talented players that they are fun and exciting to watch....will they win the Cup???? not sure about that.......Toronto is probably en meilleure position.

Look behind you.
Been watching a few games, the GEO sucked the last two games, Talbot when not on is weak. The Falmes will be good this year, Miller was a great grab for them, he will save many games, added bouns wass Jagr. The Leafs look great so far ( until last night ) reminds me of the old Oilers, do not care about letting 3 or 4 goals in as they will score 5 or 6.
Way too early to make any judgement.

STN,

Since you brought up the Oilers, they are the prime example of the difference between the real life dynasties of the past, and the wannabe dynasties of the present. The dynasties of the past, like the 1980s Oilers, developed high end offensive talent and high end goalie talent at the same time. In the early 1980s the Oilers developed two excellent young goalies by the names of Grant Fuhr and Andy Moog. Do these names ring a bell? I would point out that Grant Fuhr won 403 NHL games and Moog won 372 NHL games, this despite sharing netminding duties for much of the primes of their career. Cam Talbot on the other hand, at the ripe age of 30, has won 96 NHL games and is little more than a journeyman goalie.

These young teams are building teams through high end offensive talent and gambling that this talent will look exciting and put fannies in the seats. The Oilers, and the Leafs, are not developing or looking for young goaltender talent and young defenseman who can physically disrupt other teams. This is why, at this stage anyway, they are merely wannabe dynasties and not real dynasties like the Islanders and Oilers of the 1980s who staged the last two great dynasties in consecutive years/periods in the 19980s.When these juggernauts met in the 1982-83 and 1983-84 finals, you sensed that a torch was being passed from one great dynasty to another. We just do not see that any more and the teams building with young talent, disgustingly, are loading up on the offensive end talent while neglecting that which wins Cups. That being said I love Darnell Nurse but he needs more help.

Go ask Fuhr and Moog. They drank from some Cups in their day. Talbot couldn't carry the goaltender jockstrap of either of those guys.

The Leafs played badly last night. Although they had 50 shots on the NJ net they gave up a goal when they had a 2-man PP advantage, something i've rarely seen. The last time it happened was between the Leafs and NJ when Toronto scored when shorthanded of two men.

There are goalies that have a certain team's number and for Corey Schneider the Leafs are it. He has an unbelievable record against Toronto and he was spectacular last night.

The Leafs also dressed two rookie swedish defenceman and paired them together. I doubt they'll make the same mistake again.

You can't win every game and every loss these young Leafs endure is a lesson learned for future games. Maybe they were getting a bit too cocky for their own good after starting the season 3-0 and last night's loss will get them back to reality. They'll realize that although you grossly outshot the opposing team doesn't automatically means a win.

Now it's off to Montreal for Saturday night's tilt against the long-time rival habs who have struggled badly all season long. But Carey Price (and the habs) have also had Toronto's number over the past couple of seasons and they may just surprise the Leafs come Saturday.

It takes years and year to develop good defensemen. Hardest position to play in the NHL. Look at Darnell Nurse, he is a talent but he is still a work in progress. At some point, if the Leafs and Oilers truly want to win championships, they will open up their wallets and spend money on well established veteran defensemen. The Leafs are probably in a slightly better position to do so. Right now, the Leafs and Oilers are simply cheating on that side of the puck, and they aren't going to get away with it in the playoffs. This is not rocket science, it should be obvious to the respective fan bases.

EB, if you look at goalie stats Cam has better stats than Grant and Andy, you are going on wins and when you had the best forwards in the league and a defense man who was in the top 10 in scoring a goalie can let in more goals because his team will score the extra goals needed. Wins does not make a great goalie an Fuher or Moogs case as the offense did all the work, I could have probably saved enough goals to get many wins with the Oilers in their glory days.
